A great win from a great mare but she did beat a tired bunch of out - of - form grey beards.

As long as Melbourne produces its usual wet spring weather she will be the local horse to beat in every race she contests. The WFA ranks are as thin as I can ever remember and the Diva will cash in on her good fortune.

Hammers - saying Makybe Diva is a only wet tracker is like saying Bradman was only good against spinners.

You might recall a little race we have called the Australia Cup? It's run at WFA over 2000m at Flemington. She won that on what was a Fast track but officially rated good. Yeah, broke the track record that day.

As a 4yo mare she also won a little Group 2 race called the St. Leger at Flemington, over 2500m on a dry track. OK, she didn't break the track record THAT day on the dry, but she did happen to run a sub 33 final 600m sectional, which is pretty handy.

Oh silly me - amongst the other dry track wins of this wet tracker was another little one I missed. Not sure what race it was but it was over 3200m at Flemington in early November 2003. Won that too. Rated good.

Cheers.

Makybe Diva is one of the best horses I have seen she has a dynamic finish on her one of the best you will see anywhere. The thing is she didn't handle that track over in Japan even though it had rained there for a couple of days leading upto the race, I remember Freedman saying for some reason no matter how much it rained over there the tracks stayed like rock harder than any track she is ever likely to run on over here.

A great win by an incredible mare.Never won below 1600mtrs and never won first up!I did my gonads on the Roller, didn't get beaten by much and can't figure why the jockey stayed on the inside where the going was slowest.
What are the southern papers saying about MD running in the big one again?
All the QLD papers I have read up till now keep quoting Freedman as saying she is being aimed at the Cox Plate and wont run in the Cup this year.
He is also being quoted as saying that is the race he is training her for,and it is not possible for him to set her for both races as they are run too close together. He also said He is waiting for owner Tony Santic to advise him on which race he wants to target, talk about confusion!!
My only thought is that they are waiting for the weights to come out this week, and will decide then.
Vic has a new handicapper now, will be interesting to see what he allocates her,and my guess is that Lee is well aware of that,so the Cox at WFA is the go.
Feel sorry for all those that got sucked in by that TAB/SKY promotion offering $21 MD/Vinnie Roe.
I think they should be drawn and quartered.
So many so called "experts" in both of those outlets would have been well aware that a)she probably wont run in the race
b)Vinnie may not even come over yet!
So everyone that backed either(Maykbe betting closed within hours)will more than likely do their money cold assuming that the normal"all in" applies.

PS
A free tip for the Cup..........Vouvray
you heard it first here

Talking

PPS
Even if they do both run they will be carrying the grandstand between them.
My assumptionn may be wrong so feel free to correct me,but I am tipping that she will get around 61kgs and vinnie 60kgs.If she was mine I would go with Lee.And I would save my money and leave Vinnie at home.

A couple of hours before Makybe Diva ran her great race, a horse in New Zealand by the name of EXCELLENT had the experts and punters going wild, after it missed the kick badly and came from last to absolutely blitz its opposition. To see two races like that on the same day in both countries, means that it must be Spring...perfect fodder for the media...

watch out for Excellent when it arrives...could be the next big thing to come out of New Zealand since Sunline, Rough Habit, Horlicks, Kiwi, Bonecrusher ..take your pick...

I'm taking nothing away from Makybe Diva..its record says it all....regardless of the quality of its opposition on Saturday..

hey raw

my opinion is that makybe diva did get enough preparation tym over in japan. freedman did say all along the tracks were too hard and coming out of it with those cuts and bruises proves it was. for her to come back from that and beat one of (if not the best) 1400m runner going around and at is track says this mare can do anything. in my opinion sending makybe diva to europe would be a better option as i feel the weather conditions would suit her better. also it is true she is atm only preparing for a cox plate run, but i would not be surprised if she could win the melb cup on that prep. she is a super horse and there will b no better
