Does anyone know when the 'duet' or 'any 2' bets will be staring in NSW ?

I was gonna ask about the duet and figured it ahd been around for a long time. It seems like an excellent wager. Do you pick 2 horses and as long as they finsh in top 3 you get that payout, sort of like and exacta but for just hitting the board?

yeah,

quoting sportz from a previous thread.

"As for Any2 bets, that's basically just like a quinella, only your selections don't have to finish 1st & 2nd. They can finish 1st & 3rd or 2nd & 3rd. There are three separate dividends and as a result some of the divs are pretty damn small, but you can get some real good ones too. And of course it's possible to win all 3 divs with the one bet if you box your selections or have a couple of bankers. And the bet I've been talking about is where you take one selection as a banker from the field. Then all your runner has to do is just get a place and you collect 2 of the 3 divs. So it's basically just like a place bet, only that if a roughie or two pops in the placings it can pay a fair bit more than a place bet of the same size."

Yep, i get it. same bet but with a different name for singling the banker. We call those "key"'s and "wheels"(using all the field) or "part wheel's"(partial runners in the field) over here. EXample $1 ex box part wheel (the 1 with 2,4,6,8)=$8 as long as the 4 finishes 1st or 2nd and the 2,4,6,8 finishes 1st or 2nd, you get the exacta. IN an all wheel, as long as the 1 is 1st or 2nd you hit automatically but want a long shot to cover your investment. I like the idea of finishing w,p,s and getting a payout for duet as I always get split 1st and 3rd anyway. I actually saw some ice divs on the TAB? site last night. I seem to remember an experiment with that kind of wager at Churchill Downs in the early '90's. Thanks

A good example of this was the Balaklava Cup yesterday. I really liked Radiant Star and Civil. It was a very open betting race, so in the past I probably would have put $10 Each Way on both of them, but this time I instead put $10 for the win on both of them and also took any2 bets with both of them from the field. (cost $14 for each of them) Kehlstein popping into 3rd meant that I got a much better result than if I had simply bet each way. In fact, using the field any2 bet effectively meant that I got more for the place than I got for the win!!!

Here's a comparison between the place div and the any2 div using unitab:

Using Place div (out $10, in $27)
Using Any2 div (out $14, in $124.80)

I have been doing my own saver version of backing up my main selection, but realized the one flaw. Instead of my normal WP on #1, EX Box #1/#2, slightly smaller ex part wheel #1/#3,#4,#5(usually use 3 horses underneath), and a tri Part wheel 1,2/1,2/3,4,5, I will cut the place wager in half and use that money to key the 3,4,5/1. If my main choice wins, good chance of exacta but if it runs 2nd, I may have a large exacta instead of a small place price. The Flaw is that if my runner wins and the place returns a nice price, I gave away half of what i normally would have collected on place and lost some on the pw key over the #1. I haven't really determined which is the better play.
