Probably should clarify that I was mostly agreeing with the Singapore part of the story. After watching a friend of mines son battle with addiction for 2 years and then die it sort of hardens one a bit.

Yes, go the Aussies.

I read the part about Singapore (in the artice we are talking about) and I am absolutely apalled that anyone can have that sort of opinion... (even though they are entitled to it.. for the time being anyway) If the government here had any balls, they would pass a law today outlawing all commercial contact with such a barbaric regime.. That would mean no Optus no Singapore Airlines no Sinpower etc.. Maybe then, these callous **************s would pay attention to us.. Instead we have a grovelling, "let's not upset the Singaporeans", attitude being put forward by this gutless government... and that is why they (the Singaporean govt) treat us like something you find on the bottom of your shoe.. They (our government) have no problem passing draconian laws that restrict people's freedoms and IR rights here, but get fair dinkum and try to save an Aussie trapped in a hellhole... nah .. let's not upset the locals, it might be bad for commerce... This is a 25 yo kid we are talking about... and it is very easy to be blase about the kid because 1. he isnt your own kid and 2. he is an asian.. Put yourself in the position of that kids parents and see if you still support the gungho attitude, of judicial murder.

B4 you jump up an down and play the "but you don't have a drug addicted kid " card... You would be wrong I have been there and done that with a step kid.. But never ever would I have condoned hanging the person who sold her the drugs.. that is just inhuman and lacks any compassion whatsoever.. We, as Australians should be above that

'The war on drugs is dead, long live the war on drugs'.

The reason the yanks invaded Afghanistan was because the Teliban got rid of the opium poppy there. Heroin almost disappeared in the States [and here and everywhere else].
Now the trade is getting back to normal in the world largest supplier of opium to make Heroin. The US economy was heading into recession because of the Teliban. Sure, all governments spend heaps on this 'war' on drugs, but only a fraction of the profit they make by 'failing' in that war. It keeps the punters happy thinking they are trying to wipe out the drug trade.

What do people think happens to all the $ from the 2nd, biggest earner next to arms? The $'s get washed and go through the economy [it even gets taxed from sales tax, property tax including GST etc.], thats what.
If the world trade in dugs [or arms] stopped tomorrow we would nose-dive into a depression. The Teliban had to go. Long live the war on drugs as the proceeds from them also help keep that other big industy arms sales, boyant too as a lot of drug $'s go on financing the arms trade.

Legalize Heroin etc. tomorrow and the world economy would collapse. It's big business, even the jails in the US are a growth market and can be invested in just like any other commodity. Legalize Drugs and 80% of crime would disappear. Why do the insurance companies make so much money? The cost of insuring against crime. Drugs feed a Trillion $ diverse industry that is totally Dependant on drug illegality. Capitalists ain't stupid. The Law does pretty well from the drug trade too. It's called corruption because cops aren't that well paid anywhere in the world.

It ain't the drug dealers who are evil, it's the capitalist who will accept their washed [even unwashed] $ and are the real culprits. Governments make drugs illegal so the dealers make lots of money to spend and keep the economy buoyant and big/small business happy. Everybody is happy except the broken and destroyed people the drugs leave behind. Hang the Government[s] who represent the money makers, not the dealers. Their just one of the Gov. best friends [buoyant economy], but don't admit it or mostly don't even know it. Indirectly, a % of almost everyones income is drug money and arms money [misery money], we just don't know it and don't want to either.

Far fetched ? Think about it. We have a drug [and arms] problem because of somthing we do very little off. 'Think'.

Yep, head in the sand stuff.
Tell the poor people where all the pokies are [stuffed into every corner of their suburbs], nope, we don't want to play the pokies. Nope, we don't want to drink or smoke or play the numbers game [tatslotto], Nope we don't want to beat our wives and kids and nope drugs, gambling, grog, smoking etc. our govt.[us] profits enormously from, has nothing to do with being poor and disenfranchised from mainstream society and nope I never voted for little Johnie fascist and gave him control of the senate to create an even larger number of the poor ************s.

Nope, I'm not having a bet today on the horses because part of any winning will be drug money and I don't want any profit from misery. Nope, I don't want shares in the TAB either because part of my dividends will be washed drug money.
Yep, don't think either. 'Just so no', like the government advertisements tell us to in their 'war on drugs' adverts.

3 nieces, 1 nephew and one young sister [became a junkie mother and the 3 kids were her's] all dead from heroin and my mother dead from the 25yrs of misery it involved and eventually killed from grief, because she couldn't say 'no' to trying to get them off the crap they were injecting into every vein in their body.

'Long live the war on drugs and pass the TV guide would you honey'.

Now, enough about drugs and lets sort out winning ways to get some of that profit those drug dealers make and have washed into the prize pools :-)

Default well i never

jees crash i never thought you would have that stance coming from old school country vico,,,,,,,,,but truer words you have never spoken............
its all but fact that the golden triangle opium gets offered to the U.S.A. gov at trade prices becouse the armys that are in charge dont care about the drugs but need the money,,but they say no why=====becouse of what crash said...
and tell me this how does someone with a $500 habit pay for that with stuff they steal from you and me ..........i would have had a least 40k of tools stolen from over the years====junkies might look like ****e but they are as cunning as a sewer rat and thats how they manage to come up with that sort of money each day,,,,,,,,,,,,and it wont change until the world attiude changes.
and a another thing its easier to buy drugs than to get treatment???????????
well said crash and xpt.....cheers.....slowman..........
