Default Miss Finland out!

Miss Finland has been ruled out of the Sires tomorrow due to a leg infection. It's also doubtful that she'll run next weekend in the Champagne Stks.

From AAP Racing and sports:

Trainer David Hayes reported that Miss Finland was suffering from a leg infection and would not be fit to contest the second leg of Sydney's triple crown for two-year-olds.

Hayes said it was doubtful he will continue with Miss Finland's preparation, also ruling her out of next week's Champagne Stakes at Randwick.

And then again there is this from Racenet:

Pin-up filly Miss Finland, the glamour horse for Randwick's Easter carnival, is to be scratched from the Sires Produce at Randwick tomorrow.
Trainer David Hayes said at the Inglis complex this morning the Golden Slipper winner has an abrasion above the fetlock that needed to be treated but the stable was hoping to have her right by Saturday week to contest the third leg of the two-year-old triple crown the Champagne Stakes.

Hmmm, interesting.

Well, I wonder how bad it actually is then, because when David Hayes was interviewed on Monday, he said then that he was thinking about missing the Sires altogether and just going to the Champagne.

Could have run but for being treated with drugs to treat the injury, which sounds as if it wasn't that serious.

How many Slipper winners are ever heard of again winning anything worthwhile? Count them on one hand. If there was ever a race that should be banned the 'dlpper' is it.

Perhaps I got the wrong info. Anyway, the important thing is she's out of tomorrow's race.

In the absence of David Hayes' star filly, stablemate Churchill Downs has been elevated to a $4.50 favourite with IASbet.com, ahead of the Bede Murray-trained Universal Queen on $5.50.

Miss Finland is also an unlikely starter for Saturday week's Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

Latest snippet.
