Default VirusRescue Warning

VirusRescue Warning

The Spyware communities predicted this year would be the year of the rootkit. So far it’s turned out to be the year of the Fakeware. Spywarrior www.spywarewarrior.com, Suzi Turner wrote last December about the Top Ten rogue anti-spyware in 2005. SpyAxe topped the list and variations of this scheme have continued to spread throughout the year.

The newest culprit is called VirusRescue and it’s not hard to get infected. The scheme goes something like this: You’re tipped off about a cool, funny or adult video that you really want to see. When you go to view the video, you’re told you need to download a “codex” which is required for that particular video format. This isn’t unusual except, this video codex infects your system.

A few minutes later you’ll receive your first pop-up alerting you that a virus has been detected. Of course, you can remove the virus by purchasing VirusRescue for $29.95. The VirusRescue web site looks legitimate and someone who claims to represent the company claims it’s not Fakeware. More Info at Security Cadets: http://www.securitycadets.com/category/rogue-programs/

There is some real evidence that VirusRescue is just another version of other rogue programs like SpyAxe, SpyFalcon, SpywareStrike, WinAntivirusPro, SpyHeal etc… More Info from: SecurityTicker:http://securityticker.blogspot.com/...new-trojan.html

For a complete forensic trace of all the bad guys and their names: http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/in...showtopic=15209

Watch out for the following most common filenames popping up and remove them with 'Killbox' or 'Highjack This' ; ISAddon.dll, IESPlugin.dll, ISAmini.exe, ISAMonitor.exe.

Never pay for virus protection or spywae/malaware/trojan protection. The best are all free and well knowns. My antivirus is now 'Bitdefender' free version and my firewall is Zone Alarm free Version. For spyware I use the combo of Spywareblaster, Ad-aware and Spybot. There are other good ones too. All free.

Cheers.

Chicka,

Trend Micro and Spyware Doctor are both excellent, but nothing does it all.

Try this though, download Spyware Blaster from Javacool: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html and enable it's defences [it stops spyware BEFORE it gets onto your PC]. Since I added that one to my arsenal, my spybot and ad-aware rarely find anything to delete. The odd tracking cookie is found by ad-ware but spybot has found nothing and I rarely run it's 'check for problems' now.

Javacool's SywareBlaster Blurb:
------------------------------------------------------
'Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!

The most important step you can take is to secure your system. And SpywareBlaster is the most powerful protection program available.

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer.

SpywareBlaster can help keep your system spyware-free and secure, without interfering with the "good side" of the web.

And unlike other programs, SpywareBlaster does not have to remain running in the background.

SpywareBlaster is freeware for personal and educational use'.
-----------------------------------------------------

..and if you want to get the best browser around that leaves all others for dead, check out 'Avant' : http://www.avantbrowser.com/
Fully IE compatible too. If you do try it [and you'll never look back if you do] just make sure you untick the 'google toolbar' option first if it has one [I can't remember], as that thing has security issues that are still unfixed.

Cheers.

Exclamation

Had a PC trojan / virus once that replicated itself whenever deleted (by many tools I tried)! In the end had to delete at DOS level during boot-up then create an empty replication version file to 'fool' the trojan

Oh don't start me off about Firefox !

Biggest load of fake claims [for it] I've ever read. Avant leaves it for dead.
I especially like the ability to go to 'view' and tick what bars I want visible. I have the buttons bar only mostly [sometimes the address bar too] for a very thin browser top and nothing at the bottom. The multi-web page ability is a good feature too among many others.

Downloaded the SpywareBlaster--not sure what is more annoying--the ************ pop-ups it stops, or the pop-up that keeps telling me what pop-ups it has stopped
