By Tim Habel Thursday, !8 February 2010. DANIEL Ganderton is supremely confident he can be the first apprentice for 29 years to win the Blue Diamond Stakes. Ganderton, 21, confided at yesterday's media conference he was more nervous about an appearance in front of the microphone than the pressure of riding $3.40 TAB Sportsbet favourite Beneteau tomorrow in a bid to land his first Group 1 winner. Ganderton is aiming to become the third apprentice to win the race. "He's the sort of horse you dream about. I've got unbelievable confidence in this colt. The sky is the limit for him," Ganderton said yesterday. "It would be a tremendous thrill to win a Group 1. "His work on Wednesday was the best gallop he's put in. "He's been a bit of a slow learner but he's come along in leaps and bounds." The most recent apprentice to win the Blue Diamond was Graham Robson on Sydney filly Black Shoes in 1981.
