There are 16 races on at Mooney Valley on Saturday - 9 in the normal day meeting and then another 7 in a night meeting. By my count there are 12 gallop meetings on Saturday and, I think, a total of 98 races. Surely this is too much racing? If they must have night racing then surely midweek is the appropriate time for it? What does everyone else think?

16 races hmmmm?
I gather that they are having the usual Harness meeting as well? Could be that they are trying to get the younger punters interested in gallops and harness. It has been raining steadily in Melbourne overnight and I would be worried about the state of the track after that many races, I would imagine that at least the track will be downgraded for the night meeting unless of course they are moving the rail out for the last 7 races. I've yet to see the quality of the fields for the night meeting, but I would imagine that it would be akin to Open handicaps at the provincial circuits. The bottom line is: bet with caution at the night meeting. |

I work long hours on week days so my racing is usually restricted to Saturday. I am not interested in the usual trots or dogs served up on Sat nights so I am looking forward to this Sat.I agree the quality will be a bit stretched but no different to Sat/Sun racing. I assume the night meeting will be covered by Sky.
