Thought I’d start a new thread given the existing is growing too big and unwieldy.

A lot is being said about Northerly’s run on Saturday. From my perspective it was very disappointing to see the champ not given a chance, whether it was by design or circumstance.

I know this is a WFA race but Freemason might be worth a little investment at 66/1.

This dour stayer ran a huge race in the last Caulfield Cup and was only beaten 1.6 lengths by Northerly.

I have made some brief comments about Northerly in Punt to Win. The way Northerly finished the race, I think he would have won if he got a clear run.
But Northerly was a risk at the prohibitive odds:
1. Big weight.
2. Barrier one - can be a problem if you get back in a reasonable sized field, which is exactly what happened.

I think the big fella will be ridden much more aggressively this week (refer Aust. Cup) and if that is the case they cannot beat him. I will be happy to take $1.70 as i was delighted to get the $1.85 on course in the Aust. Cup.
Clearly they were not serious last week as we all know the only way to win from Barrier 1 with the big weight was to roll to the front and control the race (keeping out of trouble).
Load up - he is a moral!

Northerly to win easily. i think he is being looked after in lead up races and being primed for their target races, as which happened in the australian cup. he is getting old but the champ will be in full flight in saturday.
Place chances to Helenus and Republic Lass.

I agree with betty Freemason could surprise some.
