Does this tactic sound good?
Put a place bet on the fifth favourite horse?
It seems to me alot of the time this is quite succesful? However it is heartbreaking when it wins!

Where did this come from Mystic? Why would you expect that to deliver you a positive return?

Anyway, for the record, backing the 5th favourite for a place since the start of this year would have given you a place strike rate of a terrible 27% and a loss of 17.5% on turnover.

As far as I am concerned if you are up $ thats a good thing but if you are down thats a bad thing, you dont need to be winning thousands exut $20 on a horse that is paying 4.40 for place well you have well and truly made a profit!!!!!, oh and you have twice the chance of winning a place. Its not about being confident about getting a 1st place win it is about making money!

O'Sulldjo you have figure for the loss on turnover for place bets this year on the first four favourites? Perhaps this could work better at particular tracks and distances?

With all due respect, everyone has a tactic of their own and this one works for me. It works out that I always cut even if not over!Percentages etc.. dont really mean much to me, I dont take them to seriously, it is all so unpredictable you may have a favourite who is paying $1.20 then a $60.00 winner comes in~ Good luck if your tactic is working I just thought I would share mine!!!!! An yone who makes money out of the whole racing system deserves a big pat on the back!!!!!!

You are kiddning Mystic. Back the 4th favourite for a place?...if you make money from that one simple rule, I will give up the punt

In all seriousness, don't delude yourself into think something like this could be successful. How long have you been at it? What days do you bet, what tracks? What about your bets for the last week?

I can run the stats for any and all periods for the last 4 years and I can guarantee it doesn't even come close to making money.
