Have noticed the Vic Tab now allows Parlay bets online.
Does anybody have advice or tips on this form of betting...?

I have been experimenting with System 2's over 4 legs going e/w with reasonably good results, esspecially on the dogs.

A parlay is a series of all up bets on one ticket.It consists of 4 horses (dogs goats etc) at one meeting.
One unit consists of 11 seperate bets and costs (NSW) $11
we will call horses 1 2 3 4(in different races)
first 6 bets are all up singles
1 au 2 1 au 3 1 au 4 / 2 au 3 2 au 4 /3 au 4/
next 4 are trebles
1 au 2 au 3 / 1 au 2 au 4// 1 au 3 au 4/
2 au 3 au 4
next is accumulator
1 au 2 au 3 au 4

Hope this is clear enough. You can also have a 3 horse parly in NSW for a cost of $4. Same principle applies but 3 singles and 1 acculmulator.

The Vic TAB actually allows up to 6 legs or races to be selected.
You can choose win, place, e/w or even Quin race types.
You can choose multiple selections in each race too.
Then you select how many races you wan to parlay together, all six is the traditional 'all-up' or just two is basically a running double but with multiple legs and they dont have to be consecutive.

For Example:
Say we choose 1 runner in 4 races and bet e/w on a System 2 (parlay 2)
The cost of this will be $24 for $1

Results:
Leg 1: win $5 & $1.90
Leg 2: nothing
Leg 3: 3rd $2.00
Leg 4: win $3.50 & $1.50

Payout:
Leg 1 into Leg 3: 6.9x2 = 13.80
Leg 1 into Leg 4 (win): 6.9x3.5 = 24.15
Leg 1 into Leg 4 (plc): 6.9x1.5 = 10.35
Leg 3 into Leg 4 (win): 2x3.5 = 7
Leg 3 into Leg 4 (plc): 2x1.5 = 3
Total = $58.30

With a System2 and 4 or more legs it can really add up !!

But, it all comes down to your picks.....

As a mater of interest to all concerned, you can manually work out parlay bets so that you can work from meeting to meeting or day to day horses to trots or dogs. It can be quite profitable if you can string together 4 winners or placegetters. 4 divvies at $2 rom memory gets you back$72 for your$11 outlay. I have the formula somewhere if any member is interested.........
Let me know and I will look it up.You can also work of 50cent units if wish.

The fomular if i am correct is 60% of the bet on the first selection then add your winning from that race plus the remaining 40% together to get a total amout then bet 60% of that on the next selection...gee i am confuseing myself will give you example

$100 bank
1st bet is $60 it wins pays $3 return $180 add to this the remaining $40 to give you $220
2nd bet $130 rounded down it wins pays $2 return $260 plus $90 left over from last bet gives you $350
3rd bet $210 it wins pays $4 return $840 plus $140 left over from last bet gives you $980
4th bet $590 rounded down now this bet looses but you are still left with $390 this the way to go...you are not resricted by venue work it out useing normal parlay rules it should be close

A friend of mine swears by this way of betting --- and some of the figures he produces are pretty amazing. Would like to endorse Enjay's observation that by manually working out the bets you can spread them over venues, dogs, harness, thoroughbreds, even on different days, and mixing up place and win bets --- and you don't even have to stop at four bets if you are confident enough.

How often do you see the favourite run a place with the dogs At one venue on Thursday night the first eight favourites were placed. Returns might not be great per race; but parlay them up....

Yes most of the poms (or ex-poms like me) will know that this type of mixed doubles/trebles/ 4'somes/5 somes/6'somes/7 somes and even 8 'somes is NORMAL betting shop betting in the UK. where you are able to mix ANY betting event (not necessarily on the same day) with unit stakes as low as 1pence (about 2.5 cents)
4 horses or (events)full perm is 11 bets, and the bet is known as a "Yankee"
5 horses or events full perm is 26 bets, and known as a "Canadian"
6 horses or events full perm is 57 bets and known as a "Heinz"
7 horses or events full perm is 120 bets and known as a "Super Heinz"
8 horses or events full perm is 247 bets and known as a "Golaiath"

I wondered how long it would take OZ to catch up, these bets are VERY popular in the UK as it allows the backer to cover multiple selections for a modest sum, with the faint hope of collecting a fortune. A rough example is a 50c Heinz reaps $1,000,000 + with 6x 9-1 winners. cost= $28.50c

One of my most spectacular wins a s a young bloke was with a 2Pence Canadian, 5 winners 8-1, 6-1, 2x9-2, and a 4-1, cost of bet was 52 pence (about a Dollar) the return was 820 Pounds, and believe me that was "REAL CASH" 33 years ago. The full cover with 5 horses is 10x doubles, 10x trebles, 5 x 4'horse accumalators, and one 5 horse accumalator.
