Old comrade the near on champion galloper who defeated the great Chamion Northerly in an Australian Cup(2002) is making a return to racing at randwick this saturday. He has 61kg..

Looks like the comeback awaits another day umrum, can't see him in the final field.

A herculean effort just to get back to racing, if it happens. Hasn't raced since March 2002.

Yeah he's not in. The 61kg must have been the deterrant. I hope anyway.

stoked to hear this because i put in a post about a year ago wondering what was happening with him, very excited to see how he goes

Latest news Old Comrade has injured a leg & will not resume racing until February.

As per today's West Australian, Old Comrade who is currently stabled in NSW with trainer Noel Lamey, came through an official trial with flying colours at Kembla Grange on Saturday, when he completed a track gallop between races.

He worked at three-quarter pace over 1000m before running his final 600m in 37sec. and final 400m in under 24sec.

Lamey has earmarked Old Comrade's comeback in an 1100m Listed event at Rosehill on January 31 and plans to race the horse each fortnight into the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m), leading into the $2.5 million Doncaster Handicap on April 12.


Good luck to all concerned, would be great to see Old Comrade back to or near his best.

Sad news that Old Comrade was humanely put down in Sydney yesterday.

Old Comrade who had been on the comeback trail from tendon problems, recently got an infection in his hock, just a few months after a knee infection ruined his comeback plans for the recent Sydney autumn carnival.

Faced with the choice of yet another operation, Bob Peters and his wife Sandra, decided not to put the 6YO gelding through any further turmoil.


Old Comrade raced 22 times for 6 wins and 8 placings for stakes of $1.78 million.
