Has anyone considered that the best rating service is THE BOOKMAKERS OPENING QUOTES.?
If roughly 70% of winners are in the 1st 4 favs and the pro,s bread and butter is between prices 2/1 to 5/1 why not just concentrate on these horses.
The prices you achieve will depend on your quick judgement on what price to accept and the ebb and flow of market forces.
Sometimes the simplest things are the easiest.
Cheers.
darky.

Hi Darky,

Hope you had a good crissy and Santa was kind.

Your right about the bread and butter bets and about the first four. Problem is which one of the four is the winner ?

What the pro's are doing is taking the overs not what they think will win. It doesn't matter who wins, if they have done there homework on prices they will always win in the long run. Mug punters like us look for winners, pro's look for overs.

Being able to price the field is the secret ?

Cheers.

Crash.Once again you.ve hit the nail sguarely on the head.
You take as many of those horses that will allow you to make a profit.
Being quick about taking the price before its lowered is an inexact skill and thats where the judgement is.

Crash.I figure that if you asked 100 pro,s what the correct price about horse A or B is you would get 100 different answers.
Far better is to just bet all those horses on which you can make a profit.
99 % of the handicapping work has been done for us by the bookies proffessional handicappers and pricing guru,s.
Our work as I see it to get the price on as many of those horses that will allow us to make a profit whichever one wins.
Can only be done on track of course and is a skill that comes with practice.
I will pity the day when the bookies are no longer with us.
Have you ever attended a race meeting in N.Z?

No Darky, never visited a track in NZ even though I live in both the NTH. and STH. Islands for about 7yrs. Was too busy working and the last wife just hated gambling. She had to go !! The new Brake loves a punt.

Cheers.

Had the same problem Crash.

Yet when we parted she wanted half the punting pool - including all the profit.

Makes no sense really.
