Is there a rule_of_thumb or a basic minimum price to determine "long shot" ?
For example, does the "long shot" criteria, from within the price category start at what minimum price? 30/1 is long shot so is 100/1 but what price does it generaly start from ? |

puntz,
My own opinion is that it is not the actual price but the structure of the betting on that particular race. e.g 5 horse race biggest priced horse 6/1 then he is the longshot. e.g 16 horse very open race, 1st 6 favs 6/1 to 8/1 then I would suggest the long shot is outside of these. Just my thoughts Cheers |

kenchar,
I know, but I hope to get some leads to getting it right with interim info. such as yours, based on opinion and whatever else, and then if there is enough options to work with, i.e. field, runners, average prices etc, anything relatable, and hope to use some formula to mathematicaly get a spreadsheet and do the rest, and simply give a view, in color, showing the ranges, according to the info. entered. Sounds complicated, but trust me...there is more to a particular theory, but need a benchmark first. Might be a pie in the sky, but... |

been studying longshots lately and tried my theory out yesterday.
many longshots come down in distance. i backed dedicated miss in ascot yesterday coming back from 1800 to 1400 after placing in a quality behind kentiara. won with a leg in the air at $49 supertab. next race space age $19 was coming back from 2200 to 1800 from listed class. won with authority, because it got beat by 6 lengths by the outstanding main stage i didnt get on. kicking myself but feel quite satisfied. others to win yesterday were mystic morse, si senor, pipkin |

Topsy, yes and no.
At this point your clue goes to list of options to be considered. [ This Message was edited by: puntz on 2004-01-31 00:31 ] |
