With all this talk and arguing about what a "true champion" is i wanna ask people who they regard as the best.
Personally, i prefer: (In no particular order)

PHAR LAP
KINGSTON TOWN
MANIKATO
FLIGHT
SUNLINE

Interested to hear what everyone has to say!

Where is TULLOCH???

Tulloch
Phar Lap
Kingston Town
Bernborough
Manikato

The top 4 were easy to pick. The 5th was harder. I had trouble deciding between Gunsynd, Manikato and Carbine.

I know it was contreversial to leave out tulloch, but i think Flight is a very underated horse

Chuck,

How could you include Flight and leave Bernborough out? Flight is not in the top twenty of all time, let alone 5.

My list, in order, is

PHAR LAP
CARBINE
TULLOCH
KINGSTON TOWN
PETER PAN

Super Impose, Chatham and Shannon all deserve to be ahead of Gunsynd in the miler stakes.

Wakeful, Breseis and Sunline were superior females to Flight.

It is a matter of opinion but facts do need to be considered to a degree. The facts say Flight was a great mare but no way a top 5 of all time.

Ahhh, Peter Pan. I knew I would forget a great one. Oh well, I think I'll still stick with the 5 I picked.

Considering I amnot even old enough to compile this list it is hard but I will do this way

1) Phar Lap
2) Tulloch
3) Kingston Town
4) Bernborough(Dad always talks about that horse sure sounded like a great one)
5) Dulcify (ok yea I know we probably never saw the best of him but what I have seen warrants this pick)

Funnily enough after just chatting with the old man he reckons the best 2 horses he has seen were Northerly and Sunline.

He also added that Vain was probably the best 2yo he has seen and that Kingston Town was right up there with the others aswell.

top 5 very hard but
carbine
phar lap
tulloch
kingston town
bernborough
carbine carried the most weight to victory in the melb.cup and had a time that stood for 30years.
it is interesting that the horses named are stayers, leaving out some top sprinters such as vain , todman etc.
