Did you all miss me?

I managed to get to a race meeting at a little place called Bangor-On-Dee, where I committed the great British faux pas. Looking at the bookies board's and having decided to place a bet, I moved in for the kill (the big 5 pounds e/w). The bookies all had very orderly lines in front of them & considering that the previous favourite had won I figured they were all lining up to collect. Confidently I strode up to the bookie and holding out my money, called out my bet. "Oy mate", came the cry from one of the lined up punters, "there's a line here". Apparently they were lining up to have a bet! Could you imagine this scene on an Australian racecourse??? "Oh yes, I'll just join the back of the line & watch my price get knocked off". Apart from this moment of acute embarrassment, (I was more embarrassed for them) it was an enjoyable afternoon.

Now down to business. Here's a quick quiz for you. These are the prices bet on a race at Leicester recently.
1.06, 26, 51, 67, 67, 101, 101, & 101.
What would you have done?
Answer tomorrow, after I've had about 15 hours sleep.

Cheers

Welcome back Mark,

I'd have backed the rest of the field and potted the favourite.
Whether or not it won, and it probably did, it seems that you could have done this many times and still made a profit.

I'm sure that at least one favourite would go down.

If it were a jumps race, the bet would be even more attractive to me.

Thanks CP.
Where is everybody?, come on guys have a go.
I'll add this bit of info, they did bet e/w, paying 1-2-3 @ 1/5 the odds.

Limited response & reasonably close, although there is no definitive correct answer.
The simplest thing to do would be to back every runner e/w except the favourite e/w.

Level stakes, outlay 14, guaranteed minimum return 17, profit 3. I adjusted the bets and made 86% profit, without risk. Pity there's not more markets like that one.

Well, how did the favourite go?

Anyway, you're right about that market. I don't think you'd often see something like that.

The ************ won of course!, however the point of the exercise is to get people to think outside the square.

Sportz, your suggestion to back all except the fav for the place would be spot on if you could get fixed odds @ 1/5.
