Just heard on the radio that PBL, Kerrry Packers company, has come to some arrangement with Betfair. If that's true, with his political influence (sorry that can't be true, big business & politics mixing), how long before they are licenced here, and then how long before the TAB has an exchange. Happy days for punters!

Will be now interesting to see the future of betfair now that Packer is involved.
I bet my ba**s there will be now a reversal of previous policies.
Not that Packer will have any influence  just that certain people will realise the error of their ways, and all the bulls*** that has been recently advertised is wrong.

Sure will be, Kenchar. But, no offence, I don't think you'll get a taker for your bet  Thanks all the same.

The sting in the tail of the PBL announcement was that it was dependent upon Betfair getting an Australian licence. Hopefully the Northern Territory will have the "Kenchar's you-know-whatsits" to licence Betfair - I can't see the eastern states sacrificing their cash-cow.
Personally I would like to see Betfair as the major Australian Betting Exchange. I can't prove it but I think a lot of the "overs" we get on Australian races are due to under-informed UK/Overseas wagers.
Would any of our regular Betfair users agree?

Looking at the current and future direction of BetFair (and betting exchanges per se) one observes a highly liquid 'trading arena' not disimilar to equity/commodity markets.

Within this 'trading arena' an Australian National TAB hosting a WIN/PLACE betting exchange would enjoy a critical niche market advantage - a long established pari-mutuel exotic (derivative) marketplace.

A betting exchange boasting ready (instant) access to risk reducing derivative trades (bets) would surely become an imperative trading tool - and something BetFair will never possess.
