Gday all, Just curious if any people out there have any fancies for the Canadian Open this week. Thought Mike Weir may go ok?

Yeah, you would think so wouldn't you, but he actually has an absolutely TERRIBLE record on this particular course. He's played there 9 times, missed the cut 8 of those and finished 70th the other time. I guess a shocking run like that really has to come to an end at some point though, so as with the other top Canadian Steven Ames, he must be given a chance at home.

It's a tough tournament with a good field. Of the top favourites, Vijay Singh is still pretty good value when you consider how well he's playing at the moment. I guess it isn't often that players win 2 weeks in a row, but he's just playing so consistently. Of the players at slightly longer odds, I think the best prospects are Charles Howell, Chris DiMarco, Justin Leonard and possibly Kenny Perry. And if you're looking for a real ROUGHIE, Bob Tway and Corey Pavin have flukey chances at huge odds.

At this stage I'm thinking of maybe backing Howell, DiMarco and Leonard for the top 5 and Singh for a win. Haven't decided yet.

Oh no! I hope I didn't put you off backing Weir.

Sometimes it's probably just best to go with your original thoughts. My first thought was like you that Mike Weir would be damn hard to beat in his home country, but then when I saw his record at this course, that really put me off.

There you go. Told you Vijay would win. Never in doubt!

Seriously though, I really thought Weir had it in the bag today, but you just can't keep Singh down. He's extremely hard to beat in anything these days. As for the guys I tipped for the top 5, well they just weren't in the hunt!

5 bucks was a great price for Vijay as it turned out.
No dont worry I didn't end up having a bet at all, but I was glad when Weir blew it in the end.

I only saw the playoffs when hewitt was just about dead and buried and when weir hit it in the water he gave to singh on a platter, heard that one punter had $15,000 on him @ $6, would of been on the edge of his seat for a while.

Actually,if YOU placed this bet,YOU would have been on the edge of your seat.
I think that $15,000 to him is probably like $150 to me.
Come to think of it,I'd still be on the edge of my seat!
