link don't work right...copy and paste it to browser Now they want to ban the horses from racing here and other big race overseas...who do you think this will hurt...betfair i think not, punters i think not, the only thing they will hurt is the racing industry, the melbourne cup is becoming one of the worlds main races because it has overseas horses take them away and it is just our biggest race....they complain about betfair and it being open to race fixing because we as the punter can be the bookie.....race fixing has been around for a long time and it was never the average punter that was involved it was a combination of owners ,trainers, punters and bookies. Betfair has offered everything it can to help the Australina government to make it legal here but no matter what they offer it is not good enought because they are just greedy %&$*%& and they will settle for no less than total domination of the betting dollar. ![]() From the UK perspective, the Australian racing authorities have made Australian racing a world-wide laughing stock. EDITED.
Australia may end up the country that is shunned by legitimate Overseas racing authorities. Robert Edited: If you have evidence of "widespread betting corruption and horse doping" you should contact the appropriate authorities. [ This Message was edited by: Moderator 3 on 2004-10-22 10:52 ] |

![]() Wherever you find a position of power you'll find the biggest idiots
no names allowed but you know who I mean Horse racing will always be a bit corrupt as well as sport in general they cant stamp it all out because money talks volumes and always will.As far as calling off the spring carnival theyd never do it because then theyd have to call off the autumn carnival the brisbane winter carnival, indy week, oakbank easter carnival, force feed all those apprentice jockeys so there would be no more jockeys etc etc |

![]() Can anyone explain to me why they are not attacking this new Austote as promoted on this site?Or are they to be next after the demise of Betfair? As someone else stated, wherever there is the volume of megabucks, there is bound to be corruption. It is not confined to horseracing.Look at some trotting races, look at athletes taking performance enhancing drugs, boxers taking a dive,Alan Bond,Christopher Skase the guy who rorted the UK millionaire show, the list goes on.The bottom line is not corruption, because Oz racing is probably the cleanest in the world.Sure,we've had the famous leg pulling incident, the jockey tapes, jockeys using batteries, but with modern technology that can't happen anymore.I just can't get my head around the argument that backing horses to lose creates corruption. With stewards vigilance and modern tech it's virtually impossible to get away with.Consider this;if you back horse A in a race, are you not backing all other runners to lose? And when you bet with a licensed bookmaker? If he has a horse at 100/1,isn't he backing it to lose? The thinking by those in power just defies any kind of rationality or logicallity. The bottom line is GREED and not wanting to release the grip and monoply on the goose that lays the golden egg. It's avoiding the real issue of us punters getting what is supposed to be part of our heritage as Aussies, and that is "A fair go."The punter doesn't figure in this,it is purely and simply a power struggle, flexing the muscles to see who is the strongest. Please do not kid yourselves,we as punters are not going to be the winners.

![]() From what I understand about thus argument is that the Betfair system is quite transparent in its transactions (as reported in various media reports). Surely their transparency is at least on a par with the various TABs in this country. However, regardless of vigilance on the part of all these agencies, corruption on some level will occasionally occur (it has in the past and probably will in the future). Therefore, to my mind the argument that the betting exchanges will cause an increase in corruption is an unconvincing one and belies what might be the real cause of the current agencies concerns.
The TABs’ positions, it seems to me, is part of plain old politicking in an attempt to stop a competitor entering the market and reducing their share. But that is a feature of all competitive industries in that the wealth is spread further and the monopolies lose some power in setting the course of business practice in their field. That is quite understandably hard to give up. However, as seen in many other industries, competition is healthy; the old monopolies evolve their business practices to be more competitive and the end user (in this case the punters) should be better off. The sooner the State and Federal governments, and the TAB agencies realise this and let Betfair and the like to enter under careful monitoring, the better for all those that are involved...conciliation is the key to ending this issue.
