When is Saeed Bin Suroor and the Godolphin stables going to start taking our great race seriously?

The reason I ask this question is look at some of the horses they have brought over so far.

Mamool – Coming back after serious injury! How many horses in the past have come back from serious injury to win the Melbourne Cup? None! And they probably won’t!

Razkella – How many big races has this horse won? None!

Last year I believe they even brought over a horse that was just out of maiden class if my memory serves me correctly! Can’t remember it’s name. But how many horses have done that? Probably none!

For a stable that is meant to be one of the richest in the world, with champions coming out of there ears, why do they persist with bringing over average horses? Why didn’t they bring over Dubai Millenium when it was unbeatable all over the world if they want to win it so badly?

It’s time they took a leaf out of Dermot Weld’s book. He bring’s his best over when he believe’s they are capable of winning and low and behold he’s already won three.

To sum it up I have one message to Godolphin. Bring your best with you or don’t bother coming over and wasting our time!

Sorry Mr Ed you are right. Vintage Crop won one and came very close to winning another and Media Puzzle won won. Vinnie Roe has come close twice. However my point still stands.

Your'e right they talk it up like it's their main mission in life but they send over crap like Fantastic Love and expect it to get a run. It must be a big risk however taking a horse halfway across the world both financially and to the horse.

Trent,

Why would they bring a horse like Dubai Millenium to Melbourne for a 2 mile handicap?

1. It would get about 63 kgs
2. Does diddly squat for stud value - probably a detriment.
3. Money not an issue - prestige is. Despite what we are brainwashed into thinking, the world sees the Cup as a place to send their plodders - Vinnie a possible exception. None of the world class racehorses have ever come for the Cup and they never will. You'd be mad. There are a dozen or more highly prestigious races run over classic distance under WFA. The Cup is not as big as we think it is as far as a quality event goes. Breeders Cup on the same weekend in the States is where the real horses went.

Make the Australian Cup a $8 million event on the World Racing Circuit and you might get a few here.

The Cox Plate at the Valley ( like a walking tread it is so tight ) so close to Breeders Cup is no hope of getting a REAL good horse either.

Grandera was a good horse umrum but not a world beater.

Be a bit like us sending Mummify overseas.

We have never, and never will in the current climate, see a Fantastic Light, Dubai Millenium, Gallieni, Rock Of Gibraltar or Cigar in our big races.

We often hear we have a wonderful Carnival in the Spring, great crowds, etc etc. But we lack world class horses.

It's like playing Sheffield Shield cricket all season instead of test cricket - with the odd average County Cricketer making a guest appearance once in a while.

I understand that it is an expensive and risky exercise bringing horses over here for the cup but it becomes even more expensive when you go home with diddly squat in your pocket in prizemoney. Think about how much they have spent bringing horses over here and how much money they have won.

Obviously he doesn't give our horses like Makybe Diva much credit if he thinks a maiden horse is going to beat her.

As for prestige I know that at this point in time the Melbourne Cup is nothing like the Breeders but Media Puzzle and Vintage Crop are household names back in their own country due to winning the cup so there is a fair bit of interest in the race around the world.

As for the Cox Plate, I believe it is a grand circuit race but for how much longer? It doesn't carry anywhere near enough prizemoney to attract top quality horses. Apart from Grandera, the rest of the overseas horses have been laughable. I will also exclude Elegant Fashion because at least David Hayse knows what it takes to win that race.
