Default Purchasing a greyhound

Gday all. Just wondering if there are any gurus out there who can offer a novice some sound advice about buying a dog.
Im looking at buying a pup with some mates and have a couple of contacts to go and look at some dogs but I really don't know what I should be looking for.
Any advice at all would be gretaly appreciated. I can also be contacted at mattpt_1@hotmail.com if thats more convenient. Thanks

I have some contact with people in the industry including an owner/trainer.
Can you give me some questions I can put to him, considering he buys pups at about 3 a year. With a better than average success.Which is quite good if you look at the number of losers around.

Gday Mo. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
We are looking to spend around 2k and I guess im just worried about getting ripped off.
I mean I know the breeds of all the well known dogs but is there something you should be looking for with a pup or is it pure pot luck?
How do the trainers fees work? Do they simply take a % of evrything you win or are there set fees?
Are there additional costs for getting the dog to race?
How long from the dog being bought as a pup till it usually actually gets to the races?
Can you actually buy a dog that is about to race rather than a pup, but, the worry there I guess if it has any ability why are they selling it ?
Just any general advice from yourself or anyone out there who has owned dogs would be greatly appreciated.
I can tell you this much though mate, the dog wont be having the names Port or Power incorporated into it!

I'll get back to you tomorrow or next Thursday.
That's if I'm not barred from posting due to someone out there having a vendetta against getting his wish.

From what I heard the trainer takes control of your dog and foots all bills.
The fee is 50% of all prizemoney earned.
And dogs usually race at about 18 months or older.
