Tipping comp suggestion
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if you would be interested in including a Trifecta in your selections for the tipping comp each week? To keep it simple, it would only be a box trifecta, but you would be able to choose any race that you wish to pick your trifecta in. I'm thinking of including the trifecta in the comp instead of the feature race selection. What do you think?

It would be a simple 4 horse box trifecta, but there would also be a backup of an 'Any2' bet. That's a bet they have on Unitab where you bet on horses filling any two of the first 3 placings (1st&2nd, 1st&3rd or 2nd&3rd) It's called a 'Duet' in Victoria.

....so what's the total outlay Sportz..to cover the trifecta and the 'Any2' bet? |

$30 for 1 unit, or $15 for a half unit. Not quite sure which we should use just yet. I reckon we should keep the total outlay for all the bets to $100 as it is now.

Also, I'm going to make a change to the all-up bet. To give tipsters more choice, place betting will now be part of it and also you'll be able to have 2,3 or 4 horses in your all-up. In other words, depending on how bold or cautious you are with your all-up bet, you could have 4 horses all to win, or you could just have 2 horses to place. It'll be up to each tipster.

[QUOTE=Sportz]It would be a simple 4 horse box trifecta,
Could you make it a 4/5/5 tirfecta? If not Ok. Cheers! |

Well, it would be MUCH easier with a box trifecta. Especially if there were any scratchings which would be one of the main problems about having a trifecta in the tipping comp. If we use a box trifecta, people could simply name a couple of 'reserve' horses and these could easily be included if one or two of the top 4 picks were scratched. Much trickier using other trifecta methods, so for pure simplicity, I'd like to keep it as a box trifecta if possible.
By the way, a 4/5/5 trifecta costs the same for a half as a 4 horse box costs for 1 unit. A 3/5/6 trifecta for a half costs the same as well. Perhaps instead of a 4 horse box, we could use a 5 horse box for a half unit ($30) and forget about the Any2 bet??? OR maybe give people the option of using either of those two ideas??? Still a day or so to discuss it. Last edited by Sportz : 29th December 2004 at 10:31 PM. |

I know the "Any2" bet as a "Dual Place Bet". I'm not sure if i'd really want this in the comp, but then again - thats just me :-) I like the idea of a trifecta, and if we keep going with the all-ups, then i suggest as many legs as we like, and the option of place all-ups as well. I also think it would be cool if each person had to do a "WIN" round, where they simply put all $100 on a single horse. They can choose to do this at any stage of the comp. I think it would add a bit of spice to the stew that is our tipping comp!

Yeah Chuck, I've had a bit of a rethink on the 'Any2' idea. I reckon we'll just spend $30 on the trifecta instead.
I've thought of 5 alternative methods for the $30 all using a half unit: (a) A simple 5 horse box trifecta (b) A 'roving banker' trifecta with 5 other horses. (c) A 4/5/5 trifecta (d) A 3/6/6 trifecta (e) A 2/7/7 trifecta I suppose we could give everyone the choice of which one of those they want to use. What do you think? We could at least give it a try. As long as everyone states very clearly what their selections are, we should be okay. As I said, scratchings will be the big problem. If everyone could put their tips in after scratchings, it would be ideal, but I realise that's not the case. Anyway, no harm in giving it a try. |
