Default Statistics Free Read

Hi,

I hope that this is not in breach of forum rules, the site would be very useful as a read for forum members, it's U.K. racing, and more about building statistical models for horseracing than anything else. It's free to read and very interesting.

http://www.flatstats.co.uk/ppp/view...lculate+ratings

Directions
1. Make a coffee (not alcohol)
2. Take two Panadol
3. Reserve a few hours
4. Read
5. Re read.

There's a lot of bamboozling terminology, but I think it's worth reading a number of times.

I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I have.

I've re read it about five times and have started building my own model (statistical) using the stats in my database.

But it's only a starting point.

For example, Class is missing, degrees or weight of information is missing.

You can get impact values for say track winners and non winners, but it does not factor in the class of the race, or where one horse may have won one race at the track, and another may have won 10!

Perhaps I could multiply the figure by the number of wins, but I don't think that's the answer.

Like most methods it won't be the be-all and end-all. Class, I don't think it will be much use for unless perhaps you can assign a numerical value to the various classes based on strength. There are too many wishy washy classes and combinations of classes to apply a figure to each change. As far as weighting each factor, that's just another loop in the program to try each factor at say 0.1, 0.2, ... 1.0 etc.
Fun to play with though.
