Default 2.85? You're kidding!

An article on the back cover of The Examiner on 18/3/2005 had an headline of D-Day for Deloraine.

Wade Hadley, chairman of stewards of the Tasmanian Turf Club, was joined in yesterday's track inspection by trainers Terry Roles, Graeme McCulloch and Michael Trinder, along with jockeys Troy Atkins, David Pires, Shannon Brazil and Michael Voss and TTC chief executive Robety Biffin.

Wade Hadley reported that the average penetrometer reading for the track (Deloraine) is 2.85, which makes it hard. Recent water restrictions and an inadequate irrigation system kept the reading low.

Has anyone heard of a penetrometer reading lower than 2.85?
