![]() Gotta tell it, as it sums me life so far in 3 words!!!
PR-8-11 The Black Cigar, a VERY, VERY large place bet, NO, not because it finished 4th,...... I could handle that........ it's because it was called 3rd, even supertab declared the divi, then something happened (dunno what) but ended up 4th?????? |

![]() Strewth Party, didn't you know that the problem with place betting, besides there being a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, there is the very real alternate option of 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, etc. and so on into misery ?
Murphy says that ALL large [adventurous] place bets one makes will always embrace the 'alternate option'. I just hope you wern't pickled and did a large plunge on a 'cert.' with the mortgage payment !!! Last edited by crash : 10th April 2005 at 03:27 AM. |

Commiserations Partypooper, I know the feeling well, but it's surprising how punters look at things differently as I actually laid Black Cigar on Betfair. Along with Laetare in race 7, thought it the standout 'lay' of the day. I based that assessment on Black Cigar's poor strike rate and the fact it was going up in distance to 1600m, when it had only ever won up to 1400m and the fact it was also going up in class (I realise it had won a listed race six months ago, but that was against its own age group and had never won in open company). But it is annoying when your horse is called a placing only to find out that ain't the case. Last edited by La Mer : 10th April 2005 at 07:57 AM. |

![]() La Mer, of course you were right as I did my dough, my thoughts on The Black Cigar, was 52.9% S/R (for the place) was fairly consistent, didn't really think there was much strength in the field, but more importantly looked as though a bit of extra ground was in it's favour,............. but is there a hole that I can crawl into?
Crash, know what you mean alright (I know your thoughts on place betting) I am not grumbling about backing a loser as such , though I don't want too many of em', it was just that it was called a definite 3rd, Supertab divies were declared on the net, I checked back later (as I always bet best tote) and it was shown as 4th???? anyone know what happened? |

![]() You were very unlucky partypooper. The Black Cigar was impeded early after commencing awkwardly & I’ m sure would have settled a little closer in running. As it was his run petered out a little coming from so far back. Looked to run a clear 3rd to me

WATURF gives his time 1/100th second slower than the third horse so I guess he actually finished behind it. Stewards report says The Black Cigar impeded shortly after start after commencing awkwardly. Twice disappointed for a run and restrained at 250m. Looks like a bit of bad luck involved. |

1/100th of a second! Surely that would have to equate to a dead-heat in practical terms ![]()
