Default Best way to determin class?

Whats the best way to determin the class of a horse compared to others in a race? Is it the amount they earned or the average? or something completly different.

Thanks.

I believe average prize money can be a strong way of defining the class of a field.
Top 5 ranked on average prz mny win 68% of all races , so this may mean something worth working with.

Cheers.

I don't think overall API is as significant as the API of say the last twelve months starts. The other consideration is lengths beaten. I'm currently working on a ratings system (have been for a very long time), but just when you think you have a handle on it, you're faced with first starters and first uppers!

Chrome i only asked as im also working on my own ratings using a few different factors. Im only rating races where all horses have had 3+ starts. From the 5 rated races ive had 3 top rated winners 2 2nd top winners and 3quin, 2tris from top4 rated. Might even post ratings on 1 of the meets tomorrow and see how it goes if i get time. I need to rate alot more races yet for me to get excited.

With those sort of results, you're not a novice

Best of luck with it.
