A couple in the stable for tomorrow.
Musselbrook
*Desktop Magic ..in great form.,,the barrier is alittle worry ..but very consistent and deserves to break through against this lot..
*Mr Kiseki...Always runs on hardly ever wins...gets to a grade he can win now..robbo will stoke him up..doesnt win here send him to the bush..
Hamilton
Statice is another i have some time for..just a bit inconsistent for me..but has shown some ability in the past and in way better races than this..might get tempted ..depends on what price i get..

lets hope the run continues ..and continues into Tuesday..

Still have 1 double alive in the cup...
Railings/ Hugs Dancer at 1501/1 ....1 out of 100 lol...not a great strikerate but who cares if i get this one up..
I'll be on Railings in the cup...but if he does get beat i hope its by Old Hugsy :)

Back on board today for my favourite day of racing.... giddy up..
Mav, seen in the other thread you picked oahu, well now that its scratched feel free to unload on soveriegn miss. Its my mates horse and its run at caulfield from a crap barrier was full of merit and will bolt this in today in a much easier field. If the rain persists (meant to be clearing up) he will be a late scratching but very confident with this.
In newcastle watch for a massive plunge at the track in race 5 on cheap as. Know the connections here and has been set for this, Id reccomend taking fixed odds early where possible as it will be sure to tighten in late.
Ascot race 1 eugene blue in his first race is set for a big one. From all accounts has been looking the goods in track work and should be around the mark. Other selections in adelaide are some kinda storm in race 1, and facilikate in race 5.

Mav, you would be pleased to know Ive just bought into another 2 horses, 1 is a colt (18 months old) and is closely related to MERLOT NOW, the other is a filly from akhadane, which is starting to produce a few winners..... Both un-named at this stage but will keep everyone informed..

Good luck to all for a great day of racing!!!!

Hi Luv2...would love to know the breeding of your little Colt....Bad luck about Soverign Miss..a bit short for me ,,hope it wasnt your cash on her :)
how olds the filly ??
I have a filly by Kaaptive Edition i have high hopes for..also an Admiralty filly..
a Kbenjar colt and also a 1/2 share in a Sequalo ,,,
Fingers crossed one of them wins a few races :)

Got the two **** about face in that earlier post. The first horse is a chestnut filly foaled 6th november 2004. (danehill)
SIRE, AKHADAN.. Out of a sister to stakes winner Best Western, sire of 86 runners, 36 winners, including Almost never, merlot now, redadan, absolute heaven, superdan, nadella,etc.. The dam is SUPER PLAY, by kildare pride, this is her 6th live foal, her 5th foal is a 2 year old. Dam of 4 foals to race all being winners. We may not have this horse for long as theres been some interest in it, so will probably be put in the magic millions sale, I personally would like to keep it.
The other horse is from way of light (sire) and swan hill magic (dam). By ashkalani and 1st dam via spiga. Its an 18 month old colt that we should have a bit of fun with. Another horse I have an interest in is racing at mount gambier on friday. Its called Noisy princess and depending on the track conditions should run well. Doubt there will be any odds about it though because there are only 6 horses nominated for that race. Its trained down that way and needs a run.
Probably no world beaters among these, but its a ****** great day out to go and watch your horses run.
How far are your young ones away from racing Mav?? Can see a few winners coming from that stable.. good luck with em'.

Nothing better than watching your own horse race..even if it a donkey..
Mine are awhile off racing,, they're only babies,,,I have a interest in a jumper with Eric Musgrove..will let you know when he's racing next..
I find breeding alot of fun and its more a hobby than anything....out of all of them the Kaaptive edition filly is very impressive..not a popular sire but he stands in the middle of nowhere .has a excellent pedigree and was a good racehorse..the dam was handy on the track ..actually beat Lets elope in NZ before the mighty mare came over here and won everything...
she's my favourite..also have an interest in a Kenfair Colt who was born this morning..very healthy i hear and the dams doing very well also..

No Luck today..the one bet on Desktop magic who tried hard ..Mr Kiseki always finds a way of losing,,missed the start by a mile this time..,,and Statice came 3rd..havent seen that replay yet..

Tomorrow
Melbourne
*Scarlet Scene *Pentelikon, *Mr Magoo, *El Zahia/Moggs.
Brisbane
*Prend, *Moonbi Nymph
Adelaide
*Merlot now

Have already backed Railings earlier this week,,will have a few trifectas and 1st4s in the cup always good value....and will have my fingers crossed Hugs Dancer causes an upset for my double .. :)

Good Luck all..

MELBOURNE CUP

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there are 4 major winning chances in the Cup, but quite a few place chances behind them. In my opinion, 1 MAKYBE DIVA, 6 EYE POPPER, 7 RAILINGS & 22 LEICA FALCON have the best form and they will be the ones I will be concentrating my betting around. Makybe Diva is in brilliant form and I'd love to see her win, but my head tells me that perhaps the Caulfield Cup form around Railings, Eye Popper and Leica Falcon could work out to be the way to go. All three turned in terrific runs in that race which has been the best guide to the Melbourne Cup in recent years. No reason why it won't be the case again.

Any number of other chances behind those top four. I'm a big fan of Mr Celebrity and it would not surprise me at all if he was to get up here with such a light weight. Similarly, Vinnie Roe must be a top chance given his performances in this race the past two years. Perhaps he would like a wetter track though. Other possible chances for placings are 3, 8, 11, 12, 13 & 14. A word of warning though. Almost without fail in recent years, a big roughie has found it's way into the placings, so think about that when looking at trifectas.

Summing up though, I'll be concentrating on numbers 1, 6, 7 & 22 and next best I think are 23 & 2.

MELBOURNE CUP RATINGS
01 MAKYBE DIVA - 77.0 - $5.30
07 RAILINGS - 77.0 - $5.30
22 LEICA FALCON - 76.5 - $6.20
06 EYE POPPER - 76.0 - $7.50
23 MR CELEBRITY - 74.0 - $13.90
02 VINNIE ROE - 73.0 - $18.90

Hmmm, it can't possibly win with our weight on it. :D

I've started okay today. Had a good win bet on Candy Vale, and thanks to a couple of roughies, I've done okay with any2 bets on the 2nd and 3rd at Flemington.

Well I just had a bit of a go at Vinnie Roe at $18.

Also have a trifecta of 1 / 6,7,22 / F

Have $20 on Eye Popper at $8 from a couple of days ago, but the talk this morning says that it has already run its race.

My thoughts on Makybe Diva say that the connections gave themselves every opportunity to pull out of the event. Everybody wants her to win, and I don't think she would be running if the connections didn't think she was a genuine chance.

My system bet is on her at $60 @ $5.2.

Have a few running for me, but the best bet of the day is the cans of Jimmie in the fridge....

Have a good one everybody....

The thing is, she did it too easily. As I said, with all the expectation, I really don't think they would have ran her if she wasn't a genuine chance.

Yeah, for the 4th year in a row, I think I had 5 of the first 6 horses across the line, yet missed the trifecta. Mad at myself for leaving On A Jeune out (I actually had it in a sweep). I did collect the quinella and any2, and of course I'm VERY happy with the Diva winning, so I'm certainly not complaining. Could have been better though.

I am disappointed leaving On A Jeune out too.. The trifecta I had written down was 1/ 7,16,22/ F.

Pity I double checked and realised that the 16 should have been 6, hence putting the correct bet on but missing the trifecta..... Would have been a mistake muchly appreciated....

An outsider almost always finishes in the placings somewhere. It's just that I'm usually not game enough to spend the money to get it. If you thought Makybe Diva would win, you could have simply done Mav's trick and taken her with the field. Would have cost $253 for a half and you get back about $3700+. Sounds easy after the event.

The 1st, 3rd & 4th were easy to pick. And I was listening to Deane Lester and Roy Higgins just before the race and I think they BOTH picked On A Jeune as their best roughie for multiples. Did I follow the advice? Of course not.

So true Maverick..its the one race per year that I have a go at the tri..and I try to include 5 yr old geldings and also proven distance winners, and On a Jeuene got in on age.

usually throws up at least one longshot in the 3. as for Excellent well he was all the rage here in NZ... i just wasnt prepared to spend the extra dollars to get the tri. as well as the quinella.

Sportz is also correct about On a Jeune being the mounting yard tips...they were both pretty keen on him.

If it wasnt for the Cup quinella, Hillfa and Windom I would have had a crappy day. as it turned out I had a beauty...followed my hunch and double dipped on Hilffa, only to find later that I had in fact bet a unit more than I intended. When the gods are smiling everything is fine.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I was able to back On a Juene for the place, but never had a multi with 1,8 in there.

THe Geelong cup has to be a great form guide for the Cup other than the Caulfield, i mean look at Media Puzzle.

Alanas Song is rewarding me now for sticking by her through the learning proccess...i wonder why she's down there ..the Plumbs must be targeting something..guess is she'll pop up in a decent race down there next start..
Mery Peirce didnt do much ..just got to far back..will appreciate the run though so i'll keep an eye on her...

the bookers well ..not sure yet havent seen the video...

FLEMINGTON

Race 1 - Tricky race. Could be a race to look for value or play around with multis. I'm a fan of 12 SOJUSTREMEMBERTHIS but not the barrier though. If she had drawn the outside, I would have been very keen. As it is, I still think she's a good chance. 8 FREEROLLER is in tremendous form and has a better barrier. She's the equal top pick. 10, 2, 5, 9 & 7 are all strong chances. As I said, it's a tough race. Be careful.
(12,8,10,2 - 5,9,7)

Race 2 - Even tougher here. Perhaps look a small each way around 9 CAPTIOUS & 10 JOSE AMIGO. No confidence though.
(9,10,8,5 - 3,11,15)

Race 3 - Pretty keen on 3 HOLLY GO LIGHTLY here especially on an each way basis if the price will allow. Top run last start behind Astronomia and this looks like it will suit. 2 FABIARNA is the main danger.
(3,2,4 - 1,5,9)

Couple for today.
Race 1 in melbourne I think amber shimmer is great value around 10s. Its been racing in great form lately, and probably was a bit unlucky last start at big odds drawing a wide barrier at caulfield. Will be much better suited today at flemington and the wide barrier shouldnt play a part over this distance.E/W
In PT lincoln I liked the way eagle juan hit the line last start. Distance shouldnt be a problem and this race is certainly no harder than its last start. Anything over 4s would represent good value. Another running in Pt Lincoln that I will watch with interest is Ancient Music in race 8. It will be interesting to see how its NSW form stacks up in country SA. I will be watching the betting closely on this one.
Good luck to all.

FLEMINGTON continued

Race 6 - Purely on facts, figures and form, 1 SERENADE ROSE & 2 ASTRONOMIA appear to be the ones to beat here. Serenade Rose has been in top winning form right through the spring and it was a top effort on Saturday. Certainly looks like the 2500m is no worry. Astronomia is the obvious danger and one of the two really should be winning. The ones to upset the favourites could be 3, 4 or 6. I've been an Empress Lily fan for a while now, but she was a bit disappointing in the Wakeful. Not giving up on her altogether.
(1,2 - 4,3,6,10)

Race 7 - No reason why 2 BROCKMAN'S LASS can't win again here. A very impressive win last start. 7 SAIN VESUVIO & 5 UPSIZED the dangers.
(2,7,5,4,9)

Race 8 - I think 6 ALL BAR ONE will be in front for a long time here. Whether he holds on, I'm not sure, but he'll give a good sight. 1 ALWAYS FLYING & 2 BRANNIGAN are the dangers.
(6,1,2,3 - 5,9,11)

Race 9 - I like 1 MOCK each way here. His recent form is stronger than these. Forget about his last run over 1200. He loves this distance. 2 POLISH CROWN & 3 TSZYU are the dangers.
(1,2,3,16 - 4,15,5)

Yeah, we own a Hoof.. or tail. We havent discussed that with the other owners yet, LOL! She is a great mare. Fell in love with her when we first went to see her. Has so much attitude. Yes, we are glad to see her back in form. Last start was heartbreaking, but when the Chiro came out, we all knew she slipped on the going on the 8th when she came in 4th behind retail therapy, but we didnt know it had done her any injustice as she just continued on as normal. The last was a very unexpected result and we all knew something was wrong. She was being set for this, so that set her back a bit, but this 3rd lets us know that she is gonna be just fine.

Glad she isnt unnoticed though. She puts in so much it would be sad to think she is going under the radar.

I know what you mean Mav...it can be cruel at times... no doubt about it! I must say I'm a little surprised to have not done my nuts over the carnival. Its funy how on days in which you think you are going to clean up you get nothing and on others like yesterday when I didnt feel confident it all comes good.

I thought Kammoora was a good bet but didnt think it would win by five lengths..no wonder it got backed in...

Good luck Today Maverick and remember, tomorrow is Saturday and hopefully for you, back to normality...

LUV2, Don't worry about making any excuses for trying to help some fellow punters out. I know almost all of us appreciate it immensely. I thought Noisy might need one but had the class in the race so I can't wait for Hamilton, if we take it here. How did Noisy run in the race? I didn't see it. Is there a site where I can get the race charts that show the running lines of each horse in that race? We have them here in the states and are extremely useful. Thanks

Race 1 - Tough start to the day, but I think 16 BECKS has quite a good chance here. Top win first up and Beadman is a plus. 4 HURRICANE GUST & 12 KRASKY could be the dangers.

Race 4 - I've been a BIG fan of 2 ZIPPING all the way through and it was a very impressive win on Cup day. See no reason to drop off now. Could be a Group 1 horse in future. 3 LORDS A LEAPING & 9 UTILITY the dangers. Lords A Leaping was a top run behind Niconero at Moonee Valley.
(2,3,9 - 1,7,8)

Race 6 - VERY tough to work out. This race has thrown up a few roughies in recent times, so I'm going to tread very warily. I may look for some value around 4 NICONERO & 8 SHANIA DANE and maybe 5 ACTIVATION as it seems he will get out to silly odds today. I really have no great confidence though.
(8,4,5,6 - 3,14,1)

Race 8 - Tough to pick again, but I think it could be a good race for multis here. I'll be concentrating my thoughts around 8 AQUA D'AMORE, 7 STORM ALERT, 2 JOHAN'S TOY, 1 WILD IRIS and perhaps 5 BALLYBLEUE as well. Any of these could win without surprising.
(8,7,2,1 - 5,11,16)

Race 9 - Could be a good race to finish on here. Three top chances here in my opinion. 4 CARGO CULT was a top run last start at Moonee Valley and down in grade here. He's top pick here, but only slightly in front of 5 SHADOWMAKER & 6 EXALTED EGO which are both in top form.

I think its going to be a very hard day at flemington ill probly only take zipping in the 4th and our smoking joe in the 7th. Dads horse BEXAAR is running in the 9th been pretty average of late but today finally we have a decent jockey in noel callow. He is not on of my favs but i rate him more highly than danny brereton or ryhs mcleod who couldnt ride themselves out of a wet paper bag imo. It is stepping up to 1400 which it may need as it often misses the start but runs on very strongly over the last 300 meters.

heres my tips for randwick where ill be having the majority of my bets today.

Few thoughts for today.
I like exalted ego in the last in melbourne as well sportz. Form is solid and there is certainly some confidence around the smith stable. Beadman on board is a plus also. Should go close.
ADELAIDE.
RACE 1. No bet race. Strikes back to lead, can mix his form. Davout should be too good but too short also. Will watch the 2 first starters with interest, mainly gusueme.
RACE 2. Tulum obviously the one to beat here, great 2nd up record but Ill go for a bit of value with charas. He got way too far back last run which didnt suit and the smaller field here should play in its favour, 2 runs before that were very good.
RACE 3..will watch this race I think, wont be too much value anywhere in a reasonably open field. Might get tempted to have a go on nightgazer if the odds permit.
RACE 4. Going with the toppy here. Should be rock hard fit now and getting back to some good form. Good run last start behind zipping who has since won at flemington, that should stack up well for this.
RACE 5. Going for value with terminus prince. Hes a class horse that is starting to find some form. His last couple of runs have been good, not being discraced, liked the way he fought on last start. Will be fitter for that and should go well at e/w odds.
RACE 6. Like lemonade parade here. His last couple of runs havnt really suited but hes out to a distance which really should suit. Also is a horse that races well at cheltenham.
RAcE 7. Covet in gold. This is a funny horse. If it races like it has been training it will win this easy. Just needs to get a good crack at them in the straight, and get a sit midfield somewhere. Ill be having a decent go on this, it cant keep showing so much in training and not winning..
Good luck to all for 2day..

I think it's important to work out which races are likely to trouble you and go really easy in those races. For example, I decided not to put a trifecta or first4 on in the Emirates, because I was pretty certain that a roughie would get in there and spoil things for my tips. As it was, Sutology still spoiled the party in R8.

"Its good to have these quiet times..time to reflect on the carnival ..good to study the figures and see where i can improve..'

True Maverick.. I got absolutely caned on Saturday in all three states..just to finish off the carnival on a sober note.

Pleased overall though..it can be a very trying time in Melbourne, and only one losing day in that lot. Sydney is my best hunting ground by far..

I've just had two days off, apart from two bets on Sunday which I put on very early a.m and let them go around for me. I find it good to have time out after a caning, and I used this morning to go back over all the figures and venues, and, importantly, look at the overall figures for the year thus far. Helps to keep things in perspective.

plucked up the courage to see how my two bets on Sunday went and found that I snared a winner at good odds..elps make up for some of the 2nds I encountered on Sat and reinforces the confidence. lol

Great to see Sportz and co doing well on Saturday, (and William seemed to be going well in Adelaide early) ... and how about that friendly Friedman family pulling a $560 double? I must also mention Feathers effoirts using Dale's variation on Crash's no brainer, to come up with some great wins.

All the best everyone

Anyone compete in the AAP Sports and Racing Daily Challenge?

For those that are unaware you tip in each race of as many meetings as you like and get awarded points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and compete against other tipsters.

All tips must be in before the 1st race of the meeting. Single tips only.

No prizes, except self-satisfaction and bragging rights.

*As sir la ...won well last start...gets the gun run here again and should be to strong for this lot.

Gday Stix...

u have TD that far ahead of em? Being a cup, I am probably going to be wrong, but I can't find a place for him.. It will be that I take into account the last 3 SP's as a negative.... He has started at huge prices last couple...I thought Moodıs horse would be a chance in what is a hard race.. Caught Courting and True Courser have claims as well.. BUT IT IS A CUP and anything can happen :) for 4th I think at odds Garidar could be worth a look.. Having said that U are probably right with TD :)

TD's 1st Aussie run in the Feehan was fair to say the least, took up the running and condition was always going to be this issue even over the 1600m. Cranbourne Cup run was a good run, where sat of the speed a bit more and ran on fairly. In the Cox plate, the track and conditions were against him. Would obviously prefer good going........ guess he's been running in some pretty classy affairs.... and with a bit more fitness should be a good chance. Besides, hate to see him return empty handed and end up as sushi (LOL!) :D

Belzain is another that I'm considering now that the track has been upgraded, he loves the dead has won here and although up in grade has a nice barrier and has Blake onboard.....

Maybe:
1 Tosen Dandy
5 Zacielo
12 Belzain
2 Ascana
4 Southern Crown

hmmm...... Country Cups...... always hard

My ratings are pretty weird for this race...... U are absolutely right about Country Cups... Tho I have been on Precise Timing this time in and he has been kind.. I agree with Belzain, has to be a chance (tho she is not a distance winner but has run a hole at her only go) ... I am a big fan of distance winners and the theory that horses tend to repeat.. So I threw all the names in the air and came up with this (these are different from my mechanical ratings)

The numbers after the barrier is the distance record (WIN)

5. Zacielo (5) 3 for 2
8. True Courser (9) 1 for 1
3. Zedimbi (2) like the odds, and untried, pretty fair overs
12. Belzain (4) 1 place from 1
10. Garidar (13) 4/2 not a bad SR tho doesnt seem to like the track.. good overs

I am a dill.. I was talking up Caught Courting, not realising it was scratched :)

I couldnt find the toppy.... I had it way down, mainly because of the prices it has been starting at.. it's runs had been fair in exalted company tho, I just wasnt convinced.. he had a win at 2200 but hadnt done anything at 24.. Hey guys,

Well done XPT with your advice RE Garidar running a cheeky race. !3 dollars for the place, would have added value to multis for anyone who followed your advice.

What i wanted to ask was, is Lions Gate still racing. I just watched the 2004 Derby replay on TVN where Lions Gate led them up. I don;t recall hearing much/anything about this horse for ages.

Thanks,

Werribee Race 5 Number 6 Another Archie.

I Blackbooked Another Archie after its last run when it came from last on the turn to run 3rd. Up in distance today, i was hoping for reasonable odds like last start but i dont think i will get them. May jump favourite, and if does would suggest multiples betting only.
