WAVE ROCK ASCOT R5 No.14
Drawn a little wide, but has shown some promise. Finshed on well last start and 1600m should suit.
CALIFORNIA LUCK BALLARAT R3 No.3
Won well at Cranbourne last start and has in form Callow on board. I note Lemon Bitters is also in this race - should appreciate class drop.
MY MAN FRIDAY BALLARAT R7 No.4
Is a very honest horse, has one at track and keeps giving another great 1x2 proposition
FLURO FEVER CANTERBURY R6 No.5
Can see him breaking his "1200m" maiden here... bit easier here too I think. Has McLellan here and has saddle has been a merry-go-round.... maybe he's the one?
Good Luck People
WAVE ROCK ASCOT R5 No.14 - WON $2.70
CALIFORNIA LUCK BALLARAT R3 No.3 WON $4.20

Sportz, any thoughtz about today ? :D
Oops, sorry mate. Just saw this post. Bit damn late now, isn't it? :o
In any case, I'm actually trying out a new strategy at the moment, and I'm not really all that keen on posting tips on here until I'm more confident about how it's all going. So, that's why I'm taking a bit of a break from posting tips. Anyway, for what it's worth, these were my tips today:
IPSW Race 5 - 3 EMINENCE GRAND, 5 Polar Hut, 12 Marleon (3,5,12,1 - 15,9)
IPSW Race 7 - 1 SEVEN CROWNIES*, 2 Duomo
CANT Race 3 - 3 CHOICELY*, 1 Gypsy Honour
CANT Race 5 - 4 BROMIDE, 6 Captain Bax, 7 Freestyler (4,6,7,3 - 5,8)
CANT Race 6 - 2 LUCKY CUT, 1 Sweet Ransom, 6 Whoever (2,1,6,5 - 3,9)
CANT Race 7 - 2 GRAND FILANTE, 4 Sky Fury, 1 Cavmac (2,4,1,5 - 7,6)
BALL Race 6 - 2 CAPTIOUS, 7 Penworthan, 11 Prince Eiram (2,7,11,5 - 1,14) 7 late scr
BALL Race 7 - 3 EL ZAHIA, 5 Triggered, 1 Tara's Halls (3,5,1,7 - 8,4) 8 late scr
BALL Race 8 - 6 KING ALFRED, 2 Tempo, 7 Marmottan (6,2,7,8 - 4,10)
Nothing in Perth today as Paul Harvey's not riding.

lol ..thats just cruel Sportz..you would of won stacks..who cares how your tips perform just list them and say "this is a new system beware" warning with them.. Over the years you've consistently picked winners a few bad days arent going to make everyone forget that ..
A few for tomorrow
Bendigo
*El Gitano
Grafton
*Excellent Anne, *Galactical
Gosford
*Navajo Code, *Close The Deal
very confident with these and Excellent Anne actually comes up as a super special...
they all rate very high..
except for Navajo Code should be good e/w odds...
I've recently changed a few things in my ratings
noticed that i've been alot more consistent because of it..
today 2 winners and a close up 2nd from 3 bets..
yesterday 1 winner and 2 close ups..
Good luck tomorrow guys...not a bad days racing :)

FIRE FROM ICE PINJARRA R6 No.3 (Confident)
Have follwed this fella for a while. Won recent Barrier trial by 1.0 lgth ove 1000m, so appears to be traveling well, even if first two efforts have been fair. Usually races well - very honest - and Knuckey on board today from barrier 2. Big field so the barrier will help immensley. Has won only start at Pinjarra. Should be good 1x2 value......
NERA GRAFTON R7 No.13 (Place?)
Here is a speccy and for no other reason than having another bet today. Has Barrier 2 - Races well at Grafton being only 3, 6, and 1 length from the winner last 3 Grafton starts and did strike trouble last start........ 21's in the paper, but entitled to much longer...... 1x4 proposition or place for me.
Good Luck Today, People....

Tomorrow is a national holiday here in the U.S., so this old man can sit up late tonight. Actually, since we went off daylight saving time, its been much easier, with the Aussie races ending about 12:30 A.M..This is the only Oz forum I belong to, because of the fine people and the quality of the tips. When I joined in December of 2003, I figured that since I enjoy Australian horseracing so much, who better to guide me in learning to handicap Oz than Australians? I am very impressed with your kindness and the great tips. I invariably get a very good answer to any question I ask. There are VERY knowledgeable punters here. I have learned much, and realize that I have a long ways to go. I certainly appreciate you, all of you, even those I have perhaps failed to mention by name.
We have Bendigo and Gosford today, so I would appreciate any tips for those venues. Have a good and profitable day.

Good days racing tomorrow for a Friday..
Have a few i'll be looking at ,
Melbourne
*Bold Kel , *Mooncoin Magic, *Breezy
Toowoomba
*Picworth, *Rauties Warrior
Orange
*La Folie , (was on Lester Cove last time but i'm just scared of the weight and barrier..still should run an honest race though)
Hoping for good e/w odds about Rauties warrior...his last run wasn't all that bad and he has the inside barrier which will help in this field...alot of the fancies have awkward barriers and weight but i still think Kutalo will give a good sight and will be well fancied...Rauties was unlucky here against Loughnam last time,,hould have won with any kind of run..
Good luck guys...Saturday is looking good ..watching the videos and doing the form already..looking forward to seeing Malcom again..

Thanks to your Mavournin (almost an omen with a name like that Mav) $10.00 and XPT's Cogimate, Ive come out unscathed. Thanks Guys!

I haven taken pretty hefty losses the past two days also. Now they abandon the meet at Goulburn today, leaving me only Tamworth and less than half my normal races. Oh well, I nailed a $4,500 trifecta at Churchill Downs on Thursday (on a $6 bet), so maybe I'm meant to lose for a bit. Nonsense; I believe a punter makes his own luck, but still can be plagued by poor riding and mishaps. My TAB has just added many Canadian tracks, Great Britain, Japan and South Africa. I'll find some way to amuse myself.

Well Done again Stix..." is happy" lol
Mav., I think Watanabe also had the Late Mail kiss of death..just to make absolutely sure it wouldnt win.
I am beginning to like days like yesterday with just three meetings to keep one's eye on...much more relaxing..and dare I say..not hard to find a winner with the likes of Stix, Sportz ,Xpt and Maverick around.
Xpt, your ratings were a big help again....Thanks for Ballistics which paid almost $7.00 for third....much better than the winner, and Etched in Gold, and dare I admit it?...Battle Lover at $1.85 ( I must be losing it...fancy taking odds on..but I was on a roll and couldnt see it getting beat.)
I actually won a tri which covered a losing bet in the same race. Now that defies the odds I tell ya lol.
Good luck today everybody...

I've been lucky. I think I've only backed it twice and one of those was it's only win. It does look suited today and if it was any horse but Chut, it'd be a top chance.

Struggling for a winner at the moment guys so take these as you please.
Thin and Crispy, looked a real class act last start at ballarat demolishing a very handy C3 field in a race worth big money. The win was even more impressive when you look at the pattern of racing that day and nothing was making ground from behind. Really like the way Tenfold found the line first up but at this stage can't see it troubling Thin and Crispy.
Evilweb, was beaten as very short priced favorite at Crannie last start but didn't have any luck. She never looked comfortable that day and was trapped 3 wide the trip, looked gone around the bend but boxed on like a tiger to run a close second. The start before she gave jestajewel a massive break at the 200 but reeled in many many lengths to only go down a half head. Jestajewel did go hard and was entitled to tire but the way evilweb came out of the pack and went after her was very impressive. She was nominated saturday in Readyforcatherines race and wisely scratched, this race looks infinately easier.
Good punting today guys, i also like Mi Casa Mav

Unfortunately, a couple of wet tracks today. And no Darren Beadman or Paul Harvey to depend on. Anyway, here's a few to think about:
If you don't mind backing maidens in the wet, there's a couple you could look at for Doomben. Race 1-5 CRACKLE DASH looks the goods, with 12 Degner & 8 Our Favourite Miss the dangers. Then in Race 4, number 5 JUST ORDAINED to beat 7 Rojah Flower (5,7,8 - 1,6). The wet track has dented my confidence in Brisbane though.
At Cheltenham, depending on the price, Race 6-1 HEADLAND could be a good bet. 3 from 3 first up and his class is simply a notch above these. He should be too fast (1,2,3 - 9,8).
At Sandown, I'm quite confident about Race 4-1 THIN AND CRISPY. Looks very promising. Tenfold and Gaelic Lad possible dangers. (1,4,2 - 7,10) In Race 5, I'm looking at 4 EVILWEB from 2 Be Delicious. Then in Race 6, I think there could possibly be each way value with 10 KRASKY. 11 Dance At Ascot & 3 Chut the main dangers.
A few horses racing at Randwick that I was waiting for, but I don't like the track now. Currently slow, and possibly a downgrade imminent. I don't know what to do now. Anyway, for what it's worth, here were the ones I was looking at: R3-6 SAFWA, R4-9 MI CASA, R5-8 DIGOS, R7-9 THREE TENORS. Perhaps a little each way on these, but no great confidence now on the wet track. In the last race, perhaps you could look at a multi around the numbers 1,3,9 - 5,2,6.

Frustrating day as several horses that I considered, but discarded, got up at big odds. Don't you hate it when that happens? :(
Anyway, no real damage done. I didn't end up betting much today as I wasn't really confident with the wet tracks in Sydney and Brisbane (although they were upgraded). And a couple that I was confident about were a bit too short to back.
By the way, on Friday I got the December edition of PPM. Back a few years ago, I used to buy PPM every single month, but now I only get it very occasionally (about once a year). Anyway, one of the horses they tipped for this month was Rhythm Dancer and it won the last race in Sydney at about $30!!! Did I back it? Nah, of course not.

my old Favourite Moonbi :) about time is all i can say ...havent seen the run yet but i'm guessing with the blinkers off she settle quietly midfield or out the back and stormed home ..
can't wait to see the video..
Chut ??? always hated the horse ...now i know why
Svenska...favourite ,,4th ...might be forgiven..
dont know why they raced Mi Casa in that race..looked better suited later,,
Just Ordained ...3rd ..
Big Mick ...2nd,,
left uturn alone with the wet track,,
1 for 5 ..not a great strikerate but atleast i got the good one over the line..

Anyone watched Blackbookers this week, i was just having a view now. What is the Callender smoking?
How he singled out Star mystic as a great run is beyond me, then he said it showed "great ticka". I must be blind, the horse packed it in down the straight after getting a charmed run behind the leader. The winner was just too good.

*Swarthy, *Leading Bid, *Kill the Cat (Good Track only)
Melbourne

Giving Swarthy 1 more chance..did ok last start where he took off early to get run down late...
Leading bid looks like will get the sit behind alot of speed..has been winding up strongly of late ,,,dont like the backmarkers on this course but with the likely tempo he still should be in this..
Kill the cat ,,fresh over the sprint can fly..needs it good..
The rest should be nice e/w value,,,

In C3 race today, with some good C3 horses agianst him here. Is two runs back from a spell and this distance suits. Has Zahra on today, who is in form (rode a trebel yesterday) and has dropped 2.5kg from C2 event last start.
I think he should be good eachway value. Will be going 1 x 3
POINT OF CALL KYNETON R9 No.1
Has won 3 of 4 this preparation with only blemish was a 2nd when resuming. Only goes up 0.5kg here from last win (57.5kg) and has carried 57kg in his first 3 starts. Lakemba Gold will be favourite and has been running similar times to POC while carrying only 54-55.5kg, which is interesting.
Early odds have him at $4.6, but sure he will start shorter. Will be going straight out.

Greg Ryan is absolutely flying at the moment. Might just follow him from now on.
Gday Mad
You have to be prepared to take the shorts.. he IS the best jockey in the land IMHO, and so most of his mounts are overbet, tho every now and then he will ride one at a price...and I think if you back him every ride, every day you will lose, maybe not a lot but a bit... But if like some, you have the knack
(ESP maybe) and can root out his duds you might do ok.. but I am not so sure.. he usually has a full book so that means you need to make 7 or 8 units each meeting b4 you go into profit and the money usually says he is on a good chance... How you root out the duds is totally beyond me, and in reality is probably beyond most mortals, those without extra powers anyway.
Take today for instance:
Mudgee
Race 1 he rode #4 which started at 7/2 and ran unplaced
Race 2 he rode #7 which started at 13/2 and again failed to place
Race 3 he rode #1 which started at $1.60 (FAV) and won (as it should have)
Race 4 he rode #11 which started at 6/1 and ran 3rd
Race 5 he rode #1 which started $2.6 FAV and failed to place
Race 6 he rode #6 which started at 7/2 and failed to place
Race 7 he rode #3 Paper Boy and started 3/1 FAV and won
Race 8 he rode #5 which started 3/1 FAV and Won
So a nice little profit made today... but he rode 3 FAVS to win.. But should they have been FAV.. that is my point with him.. His name makes em favs.
Now how anyone can honestly say that the horses that he rode that won, Shepishir and Paper Boy, other than the odds on pop, were good things are playing with themselves. How. out of those 8 races do you decide which ones are crap. The longest price horse he rode today was 6/1 . That tells me that most people thought all his rides had a good chance in all races..I cant see that you can consistently make money backing G Ryan, because his rides are usually pretty short.
His next outing is on Sunday at Cowra as best as I can see
Race 1/7 is probably a good thing probably odds on
Race 2/5 should be at decent odds, but wait n see
Race 3/2 has a good chance ran 2nd last 3 starts (imagine the price on this one)
Race 4/1 Will be short.. last start winner
Race 5 NO ride ... YET
Race 6/2 should be any price
Race 7/4 should be any price
Hope I am proven wrong.. but that is the way I see it

Well, I was told we were spelling her, then coz she pulled up so well and was still looking for more, they kept her up.
Anyway, Barrier is perfect, Distance isnt completely beyond her, but the rosehill straight is a bit long and usually see's her get collared at the end.
Not sure on the riding tactics, but in this field, its worth including her in any exotics because she is the kind to upset them easy when its all against her. She loves the small fields and is going to get the perfect sit.
My only bet today will be as per the best advice I was ever given to save some money.. Only ever bet on your own horse, so I will have an large Each way in Syd R1: Lady Frisco!

XPT,
I assume that was aimed at me. I'm sorry, but you seem to have misunderstood me. I did not say that those two horses were 'good things' or even that they were his best two rides. I simply said that those two races were in my opinion clearly the best betting races of the day and that Greg Ryan's rides were my top picks in those races.
I like to cut down on the races I bet on. At Mudgee yesterday, I didn't even consider the first 4 races. I DID consider races 5 & 6, but in the end, I just wasn't as confident about those races as I was about races 7 & 8. I've said before that I like backing Ryan in country cups and in the last race of the day, so those were the first two races I looked at. If Ryan had been on some donkey with no chance, I wouldn't have backed him, but when I went through those races, Paper Boy and Shepishir came out on top and I was quite confident about them. I must point out however, that they were not my only bets. In R7, I also had a saver on Mister Daylight and in R8, I did likewise with Mia Amanda.
I certainly wouldn't advise anyone back Ryan in every single race. Going on the figures I've seen, I think you'd make a loss of about 15-20% or something like that. Paul Harvey and perhaps Darren Beadman are the only two top jockeys that you could back every time and have a chance of ending up in front. As for Sunday, I haven't looked at them yet, but if he's on a bunch of no-hopers or odds-on chances, then of course I won't be betting on them. As I said, you shouldn't just blindly bet on him without studying them first to see if he has a genuine chance.

Nah not specifically aimed at you... my point is that his rides are just about always in the market, and I am unable to see how anyone can distinguish which are good and which are not so good... other than using prices as a guide.. If you set a floor price of say 5$ for a Ryan ride you would have gone out backwards at Mudgee (assuming NSW TAB prices) Had you set $4 as your floor you may have shown a profit.. My point is that the winners he rode yesterday, were favs, as his rides are lots of times.. and we know backing favs sends us to the red ink..would it be fair to suggest that we back G Ryan on favs only? I wouldnt think so, because then you miss the odd good priced winner he rides.. and the mob can be wrong and are wrong 60% of the time.. he rode one at cessnock a couple of weeks ago at better than 16$ (from memory).
Again I say, it is very difficult to say which are his better rides of the day, because they are all good according to the mob. Shepishir is a case in question, I could not seperate it from Mia Amanda and the 4.. It won and Mia Amanda ran 2nd.. but in my opinion both were unders.. They should have been about 9/2 the field.. And yet you said it was a good betting race to back Ryan... when you are getting 9/2 (5.5) there is a fair amount of risk involved... I would have thought Pants Man was the horse to load up on if you were backing Ryan.. granted it was odds on, but it was close to a good thing as evidenced by the price.. and that it won..I dunno I might be wrong here..
The other bloke to back is Robbo (when he isnt having a holiday).. But when do you back him? He is probably the 2nd best jockey in the land... I would suggest maybe a Saturday at Kembla/Newcastle when he is riding for the top trainers, just a suggestion, forget Beadman, he is just about always on genuine winning chances, and still mangages to get knocked off every now n then (too often for my liking)
Following jockeys is wrought with danger.. That was the main thrust of my post and most if not all will send you into negative territory, over the long run.. even the good ones... Harvey may well be the exception...
Don't forget that I prefaced my original post by saying that I consider G RYAN the best in the land

Today he rode 2 winners from 6 sits (great SR, Crap return) for a return of 4.1 (NSW TAB) BUTTT how pathetic is the place return on a horse starting at 95$.. 5.30.. Gimme a break... You could make great money on G Ryan a couple of years ago, but sadly, everyone knows about him these days as evidenced below
The horses below all started at shorter win quotes than Ryan's ride in Race 5, yet, all had larger place dividends.. If not for Ryan's Univeral appeal.. then why? This must have been like that situation you mentioned the other day with the big discrepency with one of your selections. Guess what it paid for the place up here? $25.50! Which is pretty much what it should have been paying given it was $138 for the win.

G'day People
Here are a couple I'll be betting on today...
PURE VELOCITY FLEMINGTON R9 No.3 (2000m)
SA visitor (ex-Victorian anyway I think) brought across to pinch a few from "us". Was beaten by 4 lengths last start when drawn wide. Again no favours from the barrier today, but should be nice e/way odds. Betting 1 x 4
SUPERFICIAL NEWCASTLE R3 No.2 (1400m)
Drawn nicely today and really deserves to break through and again should be at nice odds. Betting 1 x 2
SMART MAXIE RANDWICK R8 No.10 (1100m)
HAs been in terrific form has "Group One" Glenn today and should really give this a shake. Does love this distance and should break maiden status @ Royal Randwick. Betting 1 x 2
Good Luck People....... ;)

lol..i gave up on this horse ages ago..would take more than a $3 divie to get me interested,,
This was a suitable race though and he trialled very very well by all reports..
has won $96,000 before today so he must be doing something right...
i'm like X ..hes taken enough of my money..

I think my new years resolution is going to have to be to show something like the faith that Mav shows his horses. Absolutely kicking myself right now!!! Kadazan, the horse which won the last in Sydney at HUGE odds was believe it or not, one of my blackbookers today. He had actually had two unplaced runs since I put him in the blackbook in late November, but you really should give a horse 3 runs before you discard them. Anyway, I sat here just watching the huge odds on the screen not being able to decide if I should back it or not. Funny thing is if it had been 10-1 or something, I definitely would have backed it, but at 100-1, I didn't even end up putting a dollar each way on it. I did put it in a couple of any2s and got a little bit out of it that way, but right now, I just can't believe that I had a great chance to back a $132 winner and didn't. How dumb. This isn't the first time this has happened. I missed out on a 70-1 shot in similar circumstances, simply because I pay too much damn attention to the odds of the horse. :o

Unlucky Sportz...i show alot of faith in my horses but usually they've done enough to keep me interested Moonbi Nymph was a good example ..always had excuses,, Riding tactics ,,bad luck or whatever.....if they've put together 2 shockers with no excuses i'd usually discard them...
Remeber that old grey horse that Mr Ed and i had followed but jumped off and he won during the spring at 200's ...
i think we've all got these types of stories...it'll do your head in thinking to much about them :)

Honestly now i never look at the odds if i am going to judge any runner by its form. It has absolutely no relevance to how the horse will run and its just a bunch of other, however mis-informed opinions. All the tote shows me, is what i will get if my selection wins, not what will win.

Change of plans, noisy to run at vic park on the 14th in a fillies and mares...
Couple for today.
Morphetville
Race 5.. Liked the way our sharapova won last start and think its extremely good value at 10s. Marju snip is the obvious danger but at those odds will be left alone. Dont think theres much between these two.
Race 6.. Going for another here at e/w odds in windswept autumn. Goes up a few kgs but with zanker and the claim shouldnt have too much affect. Long time between drinks but showed last start it will get the distance.
Race 7.. The interesting runner here is chew on your boot. Long way for him to come over for nothing, I would expect a good run. The 2 toppy's can race well fresh and will work around these with the favourite. (balsamico)
good luck today to all

Don't mind NEW KID IN TOWN first up today guys.
He is a good galloper who was green as grass when last in work, he certainly shouldn't still be a maiden (it took soi cowboy to just beat him) so i don't mind the 'class rise'. He has the best trainer and jockey in the race and the fact he is in a C1 aswell as being first up over 1400 both tells me that he's going very well and has done enough work for a forward showing. The field he meets today is not overly strong with Fine linen and Tactical Jack looking the hardest to beat. From barrier 1 he can take a forward possie and does posess a good turn of foot.

Couple for today in pt lincoln.
Race 3. DESHANN. Convincing win last start and can go on with it here. Only a slight rise in the wieghts and drawn the wide barrier but should be able to get accross and be too strong for them. Been placed every start so far, twice at this distance.
Race 4. Yarterbury first up here could win in this field. No previous first up success but hes been racing in much stronger fields. His last two runs before the spell were a bit dissapointing but the third before that was a super run. This horse is certainly capable from the inside barrier.
Race 5. WEDDING GIFT. E/W. Ran a solid 2nd to bracken star last outing before being freshened up for this. Back to his pet distance and could suprise at odds.
Race 7. GUERNICA. I have followed this horse with interest as I nearly bought it 6 months or so ago. Curtis has certainly got the old fella going since his move and can make it three in a row today.
Good luck for today....

Gday Mav,
Not the best result with noisy but not too bad. It hit its hind leg coming out of the barrier and has a nice laceration from it. Baker got off the horse and said it wouldnt pick up the bit at the 350-400 only grabbed with 50 to go. Were still tossing up where it will run next, but looks like it may be going to strath over 2000. Its got a 100% record there and it took baker 600 metres to pull it up on saturday so it should get the journey. One of my new ones has just commenced training as a two year old and looks very promising. Looks a dead ringer of his old man which is kingston rule. the dam is lady flilnders by muscan lake out of bushgate. Hopefully get a run or two or a trial out of him in a couple of months. Getting right into the ownership side of racing it certainly adds to the excitement.
Good luck today guys....

Hello Mav.
Lesson number 1 when we are mid-week betting.
1.For all races plus 1600 metres, look closely at the pre post odds. Then keep reminding yourself that you should never bet on a 'good thing' like Empire Rising in the first at Murwullimbah.
Thankfully, UNITAB had number 6 (Silver Bonanza) as a special and it had a good record at the track...so I had a tentaive go at it. Empire Rising had Robbo in the saddle and plugged away ok. Interestingly, Empre Rising was $4 pre post, with the first seven runners all under double figure odds.
What a trap race.......
I am going to start keeping stats on favourites (tote pre-post and last price) in mid week races + 1660 metres. I am pretty sure that the faves win % will be pathetic, regardless of field size and location. Too many variables come into play IMO in these races.........

Luv2.
Blew it big time on Next Party.
Won it back on Miss Lyrebird. Geez that is a city runner and it kept weakening on the tote!
I am on Energised in the third and a little nervous.....

Luv2.
After the last couple of races, may I suggest that you only back the nags with the better class jockeys aboard.
The Unitab ratings on the last 2 were pretty compressed, which usually spells trouble. The next two races don't look any better.
Can't believe I missed Reteps in the last one at Echuca. Last start winner here. Had an each way bet on Beach Cookie, who won second up last time. Oh well....
