Belmont picks for 14/9
Theres been showers off and on this last few days so anticipating a slow (dead at best track) tomorrow...there has been a strong wind warning for southwesterlys clearing later in the day which might give an initial advantage to front runners and on pace horses...
R1 Real Magic the likely fav and will be too short, obviously has the form (on the dry) and finished strongly albeit too late over 1000m to the place getters (incl the winner Stanz the Man) 2 weeks ago and beat Sleek Tonique prior to that- Sleek has since gone on to win on a slow Belm track last Wednesday...like Air Race (strong trial form and from Parnham stable) and Commendation (PJ riding) the dangers so will work tri around these 3 and throw in The Den and Sideways for the multis...
R2 Not sure about this one...think PJ might try and lead all the way with Sweet Record with Sportiva the likely fav but prefer to look at a bit of value, theres a whisper on Vern's Silent Wishes...Jewel Raider, Soleil Fille on trial form for multis...
R3 Really liked Shake Your Bon Bons strong finish last start over 1200m on a heavy track (the extra 100m will be just what the doc ordered here)...Zanella fought on strongly against Foxaround in a race with no speed on and is a big danger...my quinella with 9/3/8/7/10 for the exotics
R4 Stratazoa surprised them when led all the way last start at 1000m Belmont on dead track and Phil Grantham is likely to try the same tactics again (not sure how it will go if track is heavy)...this field is not much better...Mythalo, Smoke Bush and Solarus to finish thereabouts Random Encounter might find this too short but has wet form and Leta Explode for long odds multi...
R5 I like Lady Avonlea's last 2 runs same distance and track (on good then heavy track) and am willing to back her each way if the price is good. La Una flew home from the back to catch Kinky Miss over 1400m 2 weeks back on a dead track and will be likely favourite...Mimicry has won at Belmont over 1650m (slow) and has been given a month to freshen up... Yorkshire Rose could sneak in also after good finishes in last starts and Bolasque to round off the multis.
R6 Nevabawc (win bet PJ) to sneak in here with Coalseam, Robelen Park (give him one last chance-will see how the back markers do in early races might go ew 1-3 ratio) Sonic Cruiser, Port Jackson and Pro Dansk to fight for the minors...
R7 Im hoping Boppin The Blues will try and lead all the way and take this one (each way bet)...altho Mikis Protector has every right to be the fav after getting a dream run last week at Belmont (2100m) to leave them behind on a wet track...Sikmrex will finish on and Ultegra and Mavericks Pago for the multis...
R8 Woodlore is expected to lead from Cheeky Business...might be a chance to jag a good priced runner...like Baltic Boy, Peronista and Double Bay and will go each way 1-3 ratio.
Fingers crossed guys...hope to get back in the positive after a slow last few days!:)
Sensational Desi........ Beautiful.... absolutely Beautiful.....

fantastic efffort Desi ...is this a regular thing ?? great if you could do the Belmont form on Saturday's :)
just have to get a Sydney analyst and we'll be right ..
Stix on melbourne, Me and Sven in Brissie .. Desi in Wa ..luv2 and Tarbs in Adelaide,,,and Sportz and X pitching in with all state selections
we'd be unbeatable.. :)
Incase i'm to busy tomorrow i'll post my stable and blackbook selections..
Newcastle
*Dancing Danggers, * Flora Danica, *Crowns, *Ganamac
Ispwich
*Waltz to Glory, *He wears the crown, * Bound to Victory
I think Dancing Daggers will like the track here in newcastle...did very well last start with the small straight..this track is more suitable..like him alot.
I'm not convinced of High Cee yet...think the main danger is Stormhill..Empyreal a good place chance at odds..
will try and get on early tomorrow and check out the mail around here..i'm missing out on all the winners tipped lately...
Mon to wed night is just a busy time for me...hence the reason i'm on here now at 1am ..
Good Luck all :)

15th September 2005, 12:20 PM
Not sure about my Saturday form to be honest Mav...have struggled to make a profit...think I need to cut the amount of races I bet on lol...
Will continue to give some thoughts on Belmont anyway this weekend...will give it my best...
:)Kalgoorlie...got Red Hannigan in my blackbook in the Hannans and will have a go but reckon Hartleys Dream will be hard to beat after leaving Blinded and Co. in his wake...Red flew home that day and has drawn well...wouldnt write off Kames Hopes chances (big drop in weights and Valas back on) and like Field Commander and Le Dolphin for multis...
Also have Wild Frankie in my Black book after finishing strongly for 3rd at Belmont behind Stratazoa and High Authority but has the widest draw to contend with...the riding change with Miller (S) taking over from Pikie could be significant...so will have a go...

Maverick, i think i will central my form study around sydney and then post selections with comments. We should then have a complete saturday summary.

Cool :) . i think its great ,,we should have a Brissie ,Sydney , melbourne and Adelaide thread.....
threads where everyone can also discuss their own selections..People Like Mr Ed and Raw ect contribute alot..
the more summary's the better,,sometimes you pick up things you've overlooked doing your own form.....some people dont get time to check the videos...eg anyone who saw Lord of lauristons last run at MV before last week would of been on in a flash..
Crappy crap day for me today....full stake as well :( yesterday was huge but i've had 4 out of 5 losing days this week,,
Dancing Daggers ??? havent seen the replay yet but the leaders looked to of dominated..my speed map had Careel Boy and High Cee leading..
Info for Punters ?? heard on the radio about Penola and how the connections informed the stewards about a change of riding tactics ...but only 3 mins before the start...i think after i backed Penola last start that i said it would be nice if he was ridden more closer..the connections must of heard me..no speed in the race but i didnt think he'd lead..
Stewards should be informed 30mins before the race atleast..IMO
another thing happened today..Bound to Victory at Ipswich ..last start he was galloped on and had cuts on his back legs..they infected and he was on antibiotics ect..in other words his prep was less than ideal..couldnt work and he would of been knocked around by the meds...now this should of been told to the punting public but wasnt ...i know the connections so i was saved but i wonder how many times things like this happen..trainer should be looked at imo..
Hope you guys had a win.....doing the videos and form for Saturday...looks like a huge day..

Also had Tomdooli BBooked after running on behind Moonchka, Keys Ace and Circle Valley (all have gone on to win since) at Belmont a couple of weeks back...failed at Kal after that on a fast track at 1200m...thought the extra 200 and a less hard track might help but see that every man and his dog has decided to back him today lol!!! Oh well...good luck anyway...

Cant split em' in the big one at kalgoolie. Really like hotel casuarina, have been following it for quite a while, red hannigan will be thereabouts as well along with the fav. Wire detonater is capable in this croud has been racing well and at his pet distance.......... decisions......

KALG R7 - 3 HARTLEY'S DREAM, 2 Blinded, 1 Red Hannigan (3,2,1,14 - 10,13,9)
Well, it was a wipeout with the win bets, but the trifecta more than made up for it. In the end, I didn't bother with the 9 and just went 1,2,3,14 / 1,2,3,10,13,14. Nearly $400 return from $40. Not bad considering none of my top 3 tips even ran a place! :)

hey sportz..what do you think the track conditions will be in Melbourne Saturday ....any thoughts anyone ?
Sportz
15th September 2005, 07:06 PM
In one word........ wet.
Seriously though, if there was no more rain, it would probably be 'slow', maybe even on the better side of slow. However, rain is definitely forecast over the next day or two, so I'd suggest you look at a 'heavy' track.
maverick1993
15th September 2005, 07:10 PM
such a shame.. .. will tread carefully in Melbourne i'm thinking..
Matilda
15th September 2005, 07:17 PM
By just glancing thru 2 main races in Mel on Sat, I saw Grey Song record on Heavy track is perfect in Underwood and Our Egyptian Raine and Wildly (good track and heavy condition record) in Dubai Cup.
Grey Song - Always popos out in a blue moon with good/long odds.
Our Egyptian Raine - Well run in Manikato
Wildly - Good win in Bob Lewis but barrier a little worry

SANDOWN
(Some shorties here, so be careful with the value)
Race 4: 2 KING JOHANNES looks the one here. In good form and likes the wet. Possibly 7 Brunocavalli as the danger.
Race 5: 2 AIRSTREAM thrashed Happy Giggleson and narrowly beaten by Headturner. That's good form for this. 6 Shotgun Saxon could be the danger.
Race 6: 2 ACTIVATION definitely the one to beat here. Appears to have a class edge. However, 3 Irongail has been transferred to Lee Freedman and is one to watch. (2-3-4-6-1)
Race 7: 2 MATRAS looks the one to beat, but not likely to be any odds at all. 6 Caller one could be the value.
Race 8: An even race, but 6 AQUA VELVA could be a good each way bet from 1 & 2.
LISMORE
I agree with Mav here with R7-1 UMATRICK and R8-2 FANQUALO
ECHUCA
Here I like R8-2 FLEUR DE L'ORIENT. It's last run behind Sharipova is great form for this. 1 Cogmagic a possible danger.
DONALD
In Race 6 I'm looking at 1 ALL PRESSURE to beat 7 Tanna Hero and in Race 7, I like 1 FIELD HUNTER to beat 2 Sir Flex.
By the way, Queanbeyan R3-1 KIR ROYALE ran yesterday in Sydney and was quite competitive against much tougher opposition. If you're willing to take the risk on a horse backing up the next day, then he's the one to beat.

Hi Sportz,
always like to see your picks..the very first message on this thread was by luv2 bet who picked Perlin and Capadan to win at an earlier meet. For those with omens etc... Perlin ran yesterday and Capadan runs today....
Roughie for Echuca today R8 Flying Grange
Sportz
18th September 2005, 02:26 PM
Thanks w924. Good luck with your bets. Yes, I have Flying Grange rated 3rd for that race.
I didn't end up betting in Race 4 at Sandown as I didn't like the odds on King Johannes. Good thing too. Looks like they have to get to the outside fence to have a chance at Sandown today, so I'm going to take it very easy.
w924
18th September 2005, 02:48 PM
I'm with you..im staying out of Sandown altogether (and Devonport) today..there are other good tracks on offer to play in today..
that Echuca race looks like a good multiple proposition maybe.
Good Luck Sportz and well done yesterday in Sydney

It's been a tough sort of day. Some poor value and some surprise results.
We may have to disregard a bit of the form from Sandown today, although I thought the best betting race there was R6 where I was keen on 2, 3, 4 & 6 and I got the trifecta, so not too bad.

For a guy who doesnt normally play on sundays I have had a lot of fun and made more money than yesterday...go figure. was a nice way to pass the time at work....just using the Qld tab top 3 ratings and applying my saturday rules.
That "outsider" program looks to be something to be wary of with 1400m races.....fought two of my selections right to the line today..score :1 all.
Flying Grange was my big go..close but no cigar.. however Redgumwon, and later Edge of the Storm ( a horse I should not have backed..(2nd up from a spell) a mistake ,but it lobbed at 12.00 IAS fixed and Fangsforthe memories was tabqld rating value at 9.00 ias fixed. Two of those winners were drifters., and I missed the best price to begin with, but went back for more after they each drifted a point..its a practice Ive used for years and I cant tell you how often I win even more money that way...so much for winning shortners eh?
some days you make a mistake (like yesterday..keyboard error had me plonk the wrong horse on iasbet) and lose...other days you make a mistake and win.
Thats racing...It all evens out in the end I reckon..
see you next time..

Well done w924. Those Unitab ratings are useful.
w924
19th September 2005, 07:26 AM
Hi Sportz, speaking of Unitab ratings ( I was told that they are actually the Mark Read ratings).
has anyone else got an opinion on the following observation?
There doesnt seem to be much, if any, correlation between the unitab ratings (M Read(?) and the Iasbet opening prices (M Read) on offer..
recent examples include Brindabella 41.00 on offer and yesterday Redgumwon a top rated horse on unitab that Iasbet laid at very generous odds ..... Flying Grange was another top rated horse yesterday that IASbet offered very generous odds about... right to the jump ...while the price shortened considerably elsewhere....
If I did the ratings for a TAB and also ran a betting agency...surely i would keep my top rated horses safe by not offering overly generous odds about them.... even after taking into account that I am trying to set a book, and some of the prices I offer are to offset bets on other runners...
This observation is leading me to think that perhaps IASbet and Unitab are completely unrelated...the person rating the unitab selections and the person setting the iasbet book are completely different entities...
I welcome any input on this...
Sportz

Hi Sportz, speaking of Unitab ratings ( I was told that they are actually the Mark Read ratings).
I don't know where that idea came from. I don't think Mark Read has anything to do with them. I think you'll find they use a formula something like AAP's neural algorithms.

Well done guys looks like there was a few winners around. Had the day off the punt, too busy at work unfortunately, but keen on one tomorrow at strath, tycus. Liked his last start win and is pretty well weighted for this. Although this will be harder his 4th at morpthitville a couple starts back behind blue bows puts him right in this. Bit concerned about wise as an owl, very fit horse who can run arace, liked his run at gawler. My mates horse is in this race Covet in Gold, so will include in trifecta, not hopeless but not producing at the moment.

Adelaide
*Proscenium Arch, *Wise as an Owl
Very confident in E/F with Taxable and Pure..both from the Sutton stable who gave us Chevron Island the other day..good stable and both horses ran very well last start,,both had no luck and were wide and didnt have the right to finish so close..Tuscan Jazz the form around this horse (Daimyo and Luke's turn) is fantastic..
thought the same as you Luv2 with Wise as an Owl in adelaide..good run last start and has no weight at all..
Sydney..bunkum the class keep Rogues Gallery safe,
the others pick themselves..
Moggs in Melbourne impressed me first up,,this horse looks to of come back strong....Light of Day should get the easy lead in this..Gauci one of the best in front..
very confident in E/F will go hard and heavy there..and could even get e/w odds about them..
good luck all :)

21st September 2005, 12:31 AM
Hey guys...might go down to the track tomorrow...so heres hoping theres a few winners in there...good luck! Forecast is light southwesterlies tomorrow with the weather clearing after some morning showers...expecting a dead/ slow track so recent wet form will be the go I think tomorrow:).
R1 Dont like these small fields...Rose Of Thunder ran a good 2nd behind Tillibelle on a heavy track and it looks like the winner...danger is Sandy Point who will be forward and goes well fresh...has wet form. Alpha Nova has ok Northam form...might check Sandy Points price otherwise no bet for me.
R2 Cant go past the toppy Stratazoa...Granthams horse just keeps on winning (extra 200m his best distance)...prefer Pure Black on more firmer ground...Tillibelle has strong form (track and distance) as does Rons Folly and Perfect Outlook has been finishing on and might be the surprise package. The prices will dictate whether a bet is worth making.
R3 Bradstreet, Beaucreton and Our Selection will ensure that the pace up front is brisk, Pride Of Surtee and Charming Story will sit in behind them and try and run from the turn if the gap opens... Im hoping this will allow Spun Glass (PJ on board) and The Boyfriend (who flew home last start on slow Bel trk for 4th 2200m behind Stratham Streaker) to try and steal it...from Pride and Charming Story. Yes, you guessed it Im looking for some value here and will each way Spun Glass and The Boyfriend...go wide with multis.
R4 Winning Scene raced greenly down the straight last start behind Foxy Date over 1300m on slow Belmont track and still finished only a length away...with the Blinkers on should be focussed and ready to win. Tavelling Soldier, Trevanna and Steel Halo for minors. (Keep an eye on the market for Siesta Park...from Kersley stable and has freshened well after an unsuccessful first campaign-include). Depending on price of W Scene...will probably be really short..on how I bet.
R5 Would definitely have had Imaginaire as my pick if the track was firm after 2 very good runs over 1200m (incl a last start 3rd with strong sectionals behind Stanz the Man on good ground)...if it runs might still back it to beat Armidale Ave, Denver Express and King Risca-the dangers- and go wide with the exotics.
R6 James The Jet has been given a months rest by Vern (has wet track form at Belmont) and should finish strongly (S Miller on board) following a brisk pace set by No White Flag (who might try to steal this) ...Mambo Italiano's last start finish for 2nd over 1300m behind Baltic Boy makes him a danger and Greenstone Boy finished a neck behind Wire Detonator over this distance so must be respected. Honest Record has been running on and worth keeping onside. JTJ and Mambo the ones to watch...
R7 Hope to have some $$$ in my pocket be now lol:)!!! Not sure about this one...Durrant must like his chances to get PJ on board Antico Mio will have to watch the market...Coalseam and All Our Smiles the likely favs and Sonic Cruiser has been trying hard...Port Jackson might try and lead all the way...which could be good for Rosskaen who flew in last start for 2nd on a heavy track behind Jaunty Lad (weaker field tho) might do a small ew Rossk and check bets for PJs ride...
Overall, hard to find value but I must NOT be greedy...Best of luck and hope the $$$ keeps rolling in...

Silly me. I tried something new today and changed my betting method a bit. As a result, I actually came up with some different tips in a couple of the races. For example, I would normally have had Salaam Dubai on top in Sydney R3. :(
Oh well, never mind. Live and learn. I think I'll be back to the regular method tomorrow. That Werribee R4 was one race where I did have the same set of selections.
As it turned out, I didn't even bet in R3 at Werribee after I heard that my two tips were both drifting in the betting and 4 & 8 were both shortening. Very well done in that one, Stix. :)

Busy day in here today by the looks of things, few winners around. Desi doin the forum proud again in WA along with other multiple winners.
Hey Stix, sorry mate Ive been flat out the last few days tidying things up b4 I go away, unable to get near a puter today. My mate wasnt that confident today but suggested an e/w with covet in gold.. only bet I had today in the end. Its a funny horse that one. He paid more for that horse than he did for soveriegn miss (from exact same breeding) and look at the soveriegns achievements to now, should be racing on melbourne cup day in a fillies and mares race if all goes well.... luck of the draw i guess.
Mav, Id be keen to catch up with ya at the track for sure.... I owe you a couple of beers I reckon!! Im going to the g/coast races on the 7th for my brothers bucks party, wedding on the 15th but 22nd looks good... cox plate day I reckon. Been over to melbourne for at least 2 meetings during the spring carnival for the last 10 years, gonna be a bit wierd missing out this year.

Gee, I tell you Ballarat is keeping the shirt on my back today...
Probably can't say the same for the bookies. I would imagine a lot of sad faces in the ring there. 3 huge plonks, sending the bookies to the poor house....

Thnx Mav / Desi
Hope I helped someone out there..... just plugging along....
Still having a few problems with donating back some of the winnings on the odd "unplanned/speculative" bet..... but thanks to the quality of the contributors, I'm not damaging the bank too much.....
Having a look at Moonee Valley @ the moment...... I'll be back with some thoughts.... and hopefully a winner or three... funny ol' day in Melbourne town this morning - not sure if it's gunna rain later on today or just look sh*tty all day......
Got the GF parade at lunchtime.... might wander on down and cheer on the Swannies..... poor b*astards haven't won a premiership since 1934 !! Not only that, but I don't personally know any Swannies supporters..... so once 5.30pm on Saturday comes around..... it's officially cricket season !!
Look forward to tomorrows tips from you guys.....
Good Luck guys..... Giddy Up

Hate to say it, but I'm backing Red Dazzler as well, Stix. He's one of my black bookers. Odds are looking juicy (around 4/1 or 9/2) & I dont know what to make of Stratum, entitled to win its last start.
