A great day's racing tomorrow for a Wednesday!!!

Probably be back on tomorrow after I've studied them some more, but I'll just post a few now for you to think about. Some of these horses are resuming and I'm not sure at the moment what price they'll be. Be careful.

Warwick Farm R1
4 MANTON Tremendous run at only career start with a fast finishing 4th behind Fashions Afield. Very impressive on the track recently. John Hawkes 3yo which looks to have a good future. Outside barrier here, but Beadman has been booked to ride. Unfortunately, it may not be great value as plenty of people will have been waiting for it. A few other nice horses in this one including the promising Commanding Victory and a first starter worth considering Parfumier. Possible numbers 4,1,7 - 2,12,10

Warwick Farm R2
3 FLIGHTY A terrific first start flashing home late to grab 3rd. I've been waiting for it to race again, and I'm a bit worried that it's taken 4 weeks. In any case, I'm also very keen on the prospects of 2 SUN SONG whose last start form in strong Saturday class is certainly good enough for this. Haven't decided which one is my top pick yet. Possible numbers 3,2,4 - 1,6

Warwick Farm R6
5 SNOWDEN Another promising John Hawkes 3yo resuming after an impressive trial. Again, the problem could be the price. Hopefully, it's not too short. Possible dangers are Aldeburgh and Gunfire Messiah, but I definitely have to study this one some more. Possible numbers 5,6,2 - 3,8,13

Moonee Valley R3
1 JENNINGS Yet another promising 3yo I've been waiting for. Top run at only start back in June and looks to have a great spring ahead. Word of warning though. He's been slow out of the barriers at both his race start and also in a recent trial. I'm also very keen on the prospects of 4 LONG WALK in this race and it may end up being much better value. Was beaten by a smart one last start in a strong Saturday race and will take beating here. Again, I haven't worked out which one should be top pick yet. Possible numbers 1,4,6 - 7,3,5

Like Flighty alot Sportz...fantastic run last start..should be still fast and fresh for this race ...
When a hawkes runner trials well it realy makes you take notice ..he usually just gives them a run in those things..Snowden is well worth a look..
heaps of interest tomorrow..

I only got a couple of winners in Rocky today Mr. Amore in the first was shorter than I wanted but a win is a win, had a big go at Fortified and think it would have won if it had of gone straight, thought at one stage I was in danger on the other side of the fence. I finished winning on Tycoon Ted got $2.50 on him so that wasn't to bad thought he was a certainty and Bay Owl in the last was confident there. No real good odds but a win is a win.

Great work Mav, your a champ. Don't know why the jockey got so far back around the 400m mark he was in a great position but shuffled right back and actually had to check across heels of the eventual winner, he let down nicely when out and he would have been very close if he could've held his position.

One that should be at double figure odds tommorow who ran terrificly last start is Napa Sky.

He hits a very hot race tommorow, with handy gallopers Hillfa (G2 2nd), Reannag (awesome 6 length f/u win last time in) and ravishing choice all in the hunt, along with query first starters, Abbey a Redoutes trained by Roggie ridden by Danny (how often do they lose?), and Royal Whizz who must have shown Tommy Hughes enough to bring here first up.

Napa Sky however is the horse with fitness on her side and that can count for a whole lot, her last run when about 4 lengths 2nd to the very smart Amerryking was enormous, she led and they set a furious speed with Super Mario attacking it the whole way, the winner pounced easily on her and she was entitled to weaken (Super Mario ran tailed off), but she held on like a good horse for 2nd, Record ran 4th in the race and put in a terrific performance for 2nd last start coming from last at Flemington. Tommorow there really doesn't look alot of speed on from the raced brigade, and she should lead quite easily, with the big pull in the weights from these classier gallopers after Stra's claim and her race fitness, around the tight Mooney Valley circuit she'll take a power of running down.

Hopefully Napa can run a mighty race for us, and with all the attractive horses in the field i think she'll be real value on the tote.

Cheers ED

I have one in the book, Race 1 - 15 Questionable. First starter, i must have liked the trial. Havn't really looked at the opposition to hard but it is a maiden so anything can really happen, its not as if there is any winning form to go off so to speak. It has drawn out in the carpark 15 of 15, which is a big concern. Its at like 60 or so dollars at the moment though. So just have a look see how it goes, have a few dollars on if you are game, whatever. Cheers for all the tips guys, now i have to decide what to bet on - thats the hard part.

Just the winner, quinnie and tri in the first Sportz, saving yourslef for the rest of the day are we?

Great work mate,

One i remember from a fair while ago in Sydney, was Sydney Owner- it's last run was out three and four wide in the breeze the whole way but really quickened nicely when asked, also seen it's trial, which looked really nice. Do you know much about the field Sportz, they would want to be pretty smart to beat him from (1) i would think.

Quite impressed by Sydney Owner. Not sure whether it'll be primed to win this, but I'm putting it on top purely on potential. It's definitely one for the future. Scission and Albacian are the fit ones.

First impressions are often the best. If I had simply stuck to the ones I liked last night, I would have been way ahead:
SR1 Manton
SR2 Sun Song & Flighty
SR6 Snowden
SR7 On Potential
MR3 Jennings & Long Walk
BR7 Countess Bathory & Umaprince

But of course, today I've gone and added a few other bets in races I really should have left alone and that's eaten away at my profits.

Sorry i couldn't get Napa up for you Mav, you deserved one. Everything panned out as i expected but she just wasn't good enough, they probably just went a little to hard early. Still loked the winner for a fleeting moment, at least you had it e/w and didn't lose on it, i had a big go win only, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. Have had three really big goes the last couple of weeks on, Civil, Mazunda, and Napa but all the barstards keep running second.

Sportz
17th August 2005, 06:25 PM
I agree with those ones you mentioned, Mav. But it's Townsville tomorrow, not Rocky. :)

Looks a hard day tomorrow. Nothing much really stands out. Here's a few I'm looking at:

Geelong R2-12 Colonel Mustard - A very good first run back in the autumn, then failed 2nd start and spelled. Has trialled very well leading up to this and has a great chance first up here for Freedman and Ryan. Price may be a bit short though. Others to look at might be 9, 10 & 13.

Geelong R3-9 Montoux - Not sure about this one. Looked very good at her first start in the autumn, but has done little since. Worked home quite well for 5th last start though and she's just starting to get to a distance that should suit. Each way chance. Others to consider are 8, 11 & 16.

Geelong R6-5 Tommifrancs Another impressive one from the Freedman camp. Two top wins at Sale and Geelong and certainly not disgraced when 3rd in town as favourite. Lightly raced and shows plenty of promise. This should suit. Main danger is number 1 Ilbach, especially if the track is wet.

Will look at them a bit more and work out what to do with these races tomorrow.

Hey mates! This is my first post on this site. I'm a Yank who loves horse racing and is always looking for an edge. Well, I think I've found it here. If I wasn't so lazy last night I would have gone to my local Turf Club and played Sportz selections. I planned on it but I didn't. Instead I stayed in and handicapped Weds. (here in the States) card for Saratoga. The fact that the pools here in America concerning Oz racing are very wild and different from yours, I think I should find some great overlays. The Australian simulcast here starts at 10 pm and is usually being played by action punters. The form is available but how many guys do you really think would come on a site like this to do some research? I've been on some other sites and picked up the universal race stats that I can't handicap without. With solid info from race fans like all of you, I definitely feel very confident on having the edge on my fellow Yankee bettors. This forum is excellent and you guys are astute players. Keep up the good work. I, too, had the early selections from Sportz and would have cleaned house. MY fault but thanks Sportz. Now I need Gosford and Geelong winners. PS My brother is moving to Western Australia inn a couple of weeks to work with a mining company in the bush near Perth.

Just for reference:

Manton $8.50 $5.40 2.80
$2 ex 4-1 $34.90
Sun Song $5.70 3.20 3.40
ex 2-4 $21
Snowden $3.30 2.20 2.20

Moonee
Jennings $10.50 4.80 2.70
1-6 ex $26.50
1-6-4 tri $201.20
Napa Sky (Mr. Ed Kudos!!)
$14.50 to place $7.80 to show

I will confer with all of you later today before post time. If you have any access to Saratoga wagering, I have hooked up with some WHITE HOT trainers that are sometimes being overlooked. THe beauty of Saratoga is the underlay on the famous big time connections while the smaller outfits with better horses that day usually get overlooked. Steve Asmussen is connecting at over 50% for wins at the meet and paid $30 with his latest starter. HUH????? 9 wins for 17 starts pays $30. Makes sense to me.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. We already have one American punter on here called The Avenger.

Wow. A couple of good divs there, especially Manton and Napa Sky!!! From some of the divs that The Avenger has shown us, you sometimes get big overs on some of the winners here.

Don't expect winners like that all the time from me. I was very confident of those ones! But if I do have some that I like, I'll post them nice and early.

For those Aussies who don't know, US divs are based on a $2 unit and win, place & show refers to 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

Mr ed
18th August 2005, 11:18 AM
Hey Samchez, good to see some yanks betting on ozzie racing, i think it's a great product.

Just a question, when you bet to place does your horse have to run second or can it win also? Likewise when betting to show does it pay only on third or any position you fill in the trifecta.

saratoga samchaz
18th August 2005, 11:23 AM
Hey Sportz! I wouldn't hold any one to the day you had yesterday(pre late adds). Hell, even with the adds. I have to check the Aussie prices on those overs (Napa and Manton). Are your prices posted as the odds and not the pay off? I guess that's how it is done in Ireland as well as I recall when I went over and found my self at the most comfortable place on earth, the racetrack! Two things that re the same world-wide: horse racing and Irish Pubs. At every foreign track or Irish pub somewhere far from home, I see the same type characters as home. It takes about two minutes to get accustommed to the different lingo and I fell like I've been going there my whole life. Punchestown in Naas, Kildare was VERY NICE!!! I've found that turf breeding is turf breeding no matter where. It's great to see so many US sires in Aus. A Dynaformer upset the field in Saratoga today on the front end. I caught Satinspin (SPinning World-BC mile) at 1 1/16 Sunday(Aus) as well as chalky Jaffa Jonnie(DAnzig Connection-Turf Pedigree). The More Than Ready's seem to be taking to the turf and EL Prado continues to show why he is regarded as the top turf sire in North America, alongside Dynaformer. Here is one that you may not have heard of UNUSUAL HEAT, standing in California, his progeny are smoking the grass courses in Cali. and he is ranked 6th in money earned in NA above Storm CAt With Approval Royal Academy, Sadler's Wells, and AP INDY. He is definitely worth a look see if his runners make it to Van Diemen's Land> Sorry to ramble but I love this stuff!!!

Thanks for the welcome, ED. THe runner can finish anywhere above what you place it and still get paid. If it wins and you bet show (Or place for that matter) you still do get paid, but show bets are notoriously small here(remember our fields are not as large as yours. I almost always bet my horse Win and Place, besides gimmicks. If your horse runs second, you might break even or even come out ahead a little rather than being mad about how close you came(while losing your proposition all together. In Aus, (as in Ireland) is place = 2,3,4th in most fields? And do you get paid for all three positions if your horse comes in 2nd? I can't remember how it works. I do know each way is Win and Place right? What does Avenger think of the idea of having a major advantage if you do your homework compared to the average player here in the US?

TheAvenger

Hi Samchez:

You are right about this forum being a bettor's edge in Oz. There are some excellent handicappers here. I've been playing the Aussie races for a couple of years now, and have learned a lot just by reading posts and asking questions. In fact, it was Sportz that turned me on to a couple of other sites (not forums) that have greatly helped my play, along with the fantastic tips here. Since we only get two tracks a night, and only the full card on weekends, it's tough to have great betting info and not be able to use it because our TAB doesn't take that track, that night. If you have any hot pix at Saratoga, do let me know. Best of luck

Regards,

Glenn

I should have started on the Aussie racing a while back also. I can't go to the track at night and bet junk like Charlestown and Mountaineer. It's throwing money away. Anywhere horse racing is regarded as sport and not just as a degenerate gamble like the 50% take on the daily number, will make the game a million times better. Just look at Saratoga as compared to Aqueduct, but I'm sorry to say that horse racing in the US looks to be on it's last legs. There was an article in the form today about the attendance and handle being down for the Saratoga meet 1/2 way through and it was not pretty. The younger generation has no interest in the tradition and honor that horse racing was built on. They could care less if Go For Wand broke down as long as they cashed their $2 bet. I guess you are a Remington man. Then you are certainly aware of the Steve Asmussen magic. You can't go wrong there and he still is not getting over bet on the east cost (Usually). He paid $6 today at Monmouth (6 wins for 11 starts this year and 1 for 1 with Chris Decarlo on board) How did he even pay this in such a weak field? He had 7 races with 8 horses today at 4 different tracks and won 2 and placed in the rest, just getting beat on at least two of them. He is sometimes a short price, but the horses look like they should be those odds. He works all his horses in company and it helps to tell how good they are. For instance the 2nd at Saratoga Thursday. CASH FLOW drops from a Mdn Spl Wt to a Mdn Claim for Asmussen and some jockey named Jerry Bailey. His 2 yolds are always away from the gate first and that is huge in baby races. This baby worked with his top older mare Lady Tak and matched her on the slow going OKLAHOMA training track. The main competition may be Delaware Park Shipper (My home track and home of AFleet Alex) Five Star Dream trained by Mike Gorham and ridden by leading rider Edgar Prado. The horse adds blinkers drops into Mdn claim and travels 300 miles to face presumably better horses instead of making it easy on the juvenile filly. She also worked a bullet at Delaware. This type of behavior shows something because the money is not that much better to pick a much harder spot to try to break her maiden. I'll give you some more by tommorrow.

Geelong Race 4-5 Bella Comand
She doesn't win too many (1 from 14), but was encouraged by last start and has placed here twice. Does like it wet and has B Shinn on board and from Barrier 4 will get a lovely run. Would want close to double figure odds.... but would accept e/way odds.

Geelong Race 6-5 Tommyfrancs
Very Smart Freedman horse again Shinn on board and should account for these, missed out last start but should make ammends.... not flash odds maybe exacta with 1,3,5,9

Geelong Race 7-7 Outcast Babe
Resuming and has won 3 of 7, finished 2nd to Diamond Hailey in a Barrier Trial, who has won in town and the trial was on the heavy so trak no worry. Has a good jock in Mertens....again want over 5's... but don't think I'll get it...

Gosford Race 5-4 Keepa Movin Dan
Consistent horse with nice first up effort. Only win has been over the 1200m and has ran second at track and the good track is a bonus.

Northam Race 1-11 Kim Tina
3yo Filly, a first starter By Theater out of Kim Mover. No trial form that I could find but is a speculative tip from a horsewhisper mate of mine. Just for Fun

Yes, when we say each-way we mean Win & Place. But we only have 2 divs, not 3. Our 'place' is the same as your 'show', so if we back a horse to place, it can come 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Hope that helps.

Could've easily backed the winner but didn't, his formlines read very well. He has run courageous seconds to horses like Mock and I forget but some three year old who went on to win at Flemington easily. And a very strong third at Sandown behind the smart Full Fathom. Also a second to Roly Toy who he gave heaps of weight to, and he ran third yesterday at the Valley. It's a hard game this isn't it.

Good Luck all....Geelong Race 4-5 Bella Comand WON $3.20 $1.50

*Marnier ..good northern form ,,distance suits..fantastic last run...this is an open race so expecting good odds.. * Agrios ..has some ability been running on nicely of late ..no superstar though .. .if the odds are good i'll be on both..
*Conduit...another open race..great last run..needs luck from the barrier but has a good a chance as any...toppy the danger..
QueanBean
*Campaignor ..another that doesnt win that often..but last start was very good..should be huge odds ..worth an e/w

Looking for some value tomorrow ..Confident with Strategic plan and Johnny..hoping for some value with the others..

Ipswich
Race 6 #1 Doctor Hennessy

Is Millenium Eagle a Steeplechaser Stix, i remember the name? Gee that race looks made to order for Declaree, he looks thrown in at the weights considering he placed in c4 company last start and won a C3 showcase the start before. Also his form on the heavy is terrific, one to beat but Sonic is so so good you can't dismiss him.

Johnny Be Good.....gets the lead here..will be hard to catch ..this is his distance....big show..

He looks awefully hard to beat Mav, but i'm very scared of the pressure he'll get from Vic By The Jug, absolute madman when it comes to leading. He missed the kick last time so hopefully that happens again. If not Johnny may have to take a sit and that's a worry with him, he does look the class however, good luck.

Smoking Joe is really the only horse i am remotely worried about with the Roller, he was very impressive first-up despite having all the favors. Goes good second up and flies in the wet. Super Elegant can't beat him IMHO even if Super retains the lead and the Roller sits outside he is just not good enough. If the Roller gets to the fence, line up.

Gday Ed,
In my opinion regal roller will get to 3s, theres quite a few others I think they will come for here. I totally agree and am a huge roller fan that he is the one to beat but 2.60 is too short for me. I also agree that our smokin joe is a big danger and is sure to run a race but I also raise a little concern towards lad of the manor. He has won twice first up from three attempts and from all accounts is fit and ready. I will also be including fields of omagh at big odds, looks fitter and better than ever and wouldnt be too suprised to see him around the mark. Great race and cant wait to see the outcome. I for one believe there will be 3s for the roller but who knows??????

Mr ed
19th August 2005, 09:55 PM
Yeh he won easy Mav, he never challenged Vic for the lead and it definately helped both of their causes, was just a matter of if he pulled or not and he raced well and was never in doubt, heard they bet $3 on track, huge odds.

I am going to have a large wager on the Roller whatever price he gets to, especially on the heavy track, he's a star. Also might have a little running double Rc 5 no 12 into Rc6 no 4, 2 absolute stars of the track.

Will wait for Sunday i think that Tasman Trader is a certainty and will post why tommorow.

Started looking over the Caulfield card for Sat. (Our Fri. night) and it really does look like a very exciting day. I will definitely be playing the Aussies tonight after I took home to HUGE exacta savers at Saratoga yesterday. A Dynaformer who had just broken his maiden on turf coupled with a South African import (Jacarandi Jane) from Team VAlor Stables came back @$350 for $2 (odds of 10-and 9-1). My main play ran out but who cares. In the race before that, I played the front end speed on the turf (as it is holding on the inner turf-a RARE occurence) and got Ramon Dominguez to will a $9.00 horse home through the stretch being chase by no less than 6 closers. Luckily the Santos ridden 10 got up for 2nd at 30-1 and created a $430 exacta! I had both of these but gave a substantial bit back. Still came out way on top for the day so I have a bankroll for the weekend. Saratoga and Caulfield here I come! I hate to ramble about American racing here guys but I figure it may give you an edge come Breeder's Cup or Dubai Cup. Remember Ramon Dominguez. He is a young rider who has all the skills of the best and I mean Jerry Bailey, Gary Stevens, Chris McCarron, Franki Dettori, Kieran Fallon, best but still gets a nice price due to his stature as a small track(Delaware Park- my home track) rider. All the trainers and all the other riders know who he is. He won the Breeder's Cup Turf on Better Talk Now last year and gets all of Graham Motion's mounts. He always gives it his all so remember you heard it hear first when he becomes THE American jockey in a couple of years. He'll be switching his tack to New York sometime soon.

Is it raining cats and dogs at Caulfield and/or Randwick today? I hear the talk about the heavy going and the weather site I got on had all these severe weather warnings posted. ANy info on how these tracks play towards closers or speed and on heavy going? Looking at the form for Randwick it looks like closers have the edge to me. I looked at the Randwick 1A and I might take a flyer on Agua Corriendo as he might like the extra furlong if he can take to the heavy and use Jon Ron, Hassle(fav?), and High Cee(could get the whole thing at a nice price with Boss aboard). Do you think Boss had the choice between Sir Craiglee and High Cee in this race? In the US this happens alot and reflects the horses readiness and since High Cee looked pretty good in his return since April, he could be sitting on a big one. Just one Yankee's opinion.

If Avenger is lirking sometime today, Dominguez rides a Scott Lake (Del Park trainer- this is the combo that took the 6th yesterday) claimer in the 3rd at Saratoga Friday. VROOM HILDA (#5) ran two good seconds after a layoff from May. She was scratched from same type race earlier this week as Lake already had a runner in there. Dominguez has been riding like wildfire but getting so unlucky to not have about ten more wins. He keeps getting beat a nose(no discredit to him- he's usually the one flying through the lane) like in the Saratoga feature yesterday. This one may have been his fault as the winner came from the clouds and Ramon probably thought he had it. The first mistake I've seen him make all meet. Use #4 MAIN STREAM and #2 CHUNK OF LOVE with this Ontario bred. Unless it is an off-track (really off as they have had NO rain at this meet) then turn your attention to BEHRNIK #6 who loves it off (7-2-2-3). Tough call on Vroom Hilda's off track class. Good Luck if you play. Also, meet's leading trainer Todd Pletcher who has been mired in a huge slump the last two weeks looks like the winner in the featured 8th race on the turf. Grade 2 mile and an 1/8 should be perfect trip from rail for READY"S GAL #1 (More Than Ready). Use with #6 Victory Lap(scares me for some reason) and #4 Naissance Royal( first start iin NA for Clement and this G1 and G3 placed filly in France(Giant's Causeway-Net Worth- a Forty Niner dam).

Randwick will be a good track, Caulfield Slow to Heavy.

Boss may have had the choice of rides but it may not have had much to do with prospects for this race. High Cee is a cups type horse which will be runnng in bigger races in the spring. I doubt Sir Craiglee will, so Boss may have wanted to stick with High Cee looking to the future.

saratoga samchaz
20th August 2005, 05:44 AM
High Cee may run in higher class races but he sure doesn't do anything in 'em. It looks like he fits right in with this group and if he runs to his potential and class, on paper he looks like a value if anywhere near his morning line in my program of 12-1. He doesn't look to like Randwick, though those races were against much better. If they do have bigger things in store for your spring campaign, I hope he'll be all out. I hope The Avenger got down on VROOM HILDA as she won paying $4.40 to win while my 2nd and 3rd picks came right in that order for a $27 exacta and a $130? Trifecta. Of course I didn't get down on him as my boss had me tied up at work (the nerve of him). Oh well I'll try to get down on READY's GAL in the 8th or save my bankroll for OZ.

Of course my second horse ran up the track at Saratoga behind the classy French filly Naisance Royale(IRE) and Victory Lap (third). I wonder if this filly is here for the Breeder's Cup filly and mare turf? A Giant's Causeway paying $11.40? Sacre Bleu!! And some jock named Dominguez won the 7th (and 3rd) aboard a $15 winner sired by Royal Academy. Leave him out come Breeder's Cup day at your own discretion (or any big day for that matter). I feel sorry for the rest of the jockeys in US when he starts to ride all the favorites like Bailey, Prado, and Velazquez. By the way, Kitten's Joy is headed to the Arc if all goes well. He better stay there and leave the Breeder's Cup to the Europeans as our turf horses are down this year. ALINGHI is working gangbusters at Saratoga in preparation for her American debut on the dirt. She seems to have taken to the dirt seeing as their is a rumour that she was running around the backside when she got away from Bobby Frankel's people. They deny it. Surprise! *LOADED VICE. There should be a bit of speed on here with il duca and chilton leading them away hard. Loaded vice to get the sit in behind them, both frontrunners to pull wide on the turn and the Vice to flash home along the rails. Pretty confident here, should be $4+.

ADELAIDE
*BARABBA ROAD. I really liked the way he ran home last time behind maduro. Will be much fitter for it and should thrive on the extra journey. Will not be suprised to see on a juene run a race at big odds.

MELBOURNE
*EVIL MASTER. Struggled to get in clear last run then Ran home impreesively for win same track same distance. Is drawn well, not that it really matters as he should sit back and with the 3kilo claim will be flashing home.

Don't worry about Sand Belt Mav, just back Tasman Trader, huge run last start when wide the first mile then had to take a sit, looked in trouble 500m out but fought back very strongly to run second behind princess Tiffany. The horse that run 4th was Sutology who looked to have its chance and it absolutely bolted in at the Valley during the week. I hope D Moor takes a sit tommorrow and if he does Tasman has the fitness, class, and score on the board to absolutely overrun them in the last 400m, anythimg over $3.00 is a top bet.

Brainpower was v. strong against Wild Classic last time, but just lacked the fitness, and i think the extra distance on the very heavy track will sort it out tommorrow. Also Gunza Magilla ran a much improved race last start, he's a plodder but is very strong and if he can dictate terms; which he should be able to, he will take a lot of catching.

It was a good day today, obviously without being spectacular, good luck tommorrow. Well done L2B, i hope you got the quinella in the Liston, trife and F4 wouldn't have been hard to find either leaving out the fave.

Have a couple in today that I've been waiting for. Just worried that plenty of other punters may have been waiting for them too. :o

Bairnsdale Race 3-8 SPECIALSTARZ*. Trialled VERY impressively at Cranbourne last week. Zabeel 3yo trained by Moody having it's first start. Top chance. Price might be a problem though. Viva La Covert a possible danger. (8,9 - 5,4,3,12)

Sandown Race 5-3 SARRERA*. Very promising. Easy 5 length winner on a heavy track at Geelong last time. Has previously run close seconds to Noble Red & Tick By. As with Specialstarz, the price could be a bit short. King Johannes a possible danger. (3,5 - 1,2,10)

Other races:
Sandown Race 7-7 TASMAN TRADER, 6 Gunza Magilla, 2 Danerette (7,6,2,4 - 8,5)

Have a couple in today that I've been waiting for. Just worried that plenty of other punters may have been waiting for them too.

Bairnsdale Race 3-8 SPECIALSTARZ*.
Sandown Race 5-3 SARRERA*.

Well, as I suspected, both short odds, but can't complain with 2 from 2. And the 'danger' ran 2nd on both occasions.

2 tips 2 wins so far for me as well, Omnitrader @ $4.00 & Sarrera @ $1.70 . Leg Irons is $6.00 the place at Unitab right now... and Braeloch $8.80 the place - its the first time its had a quality on since hugh bowman and before that i can't remember...its a heavy track, but it came 2nd in the Aust Derby on a dead track

Mav, the average punter simply doesn't have enough money to put trifectas on like that. $105 for a half is pretty costly when you think you would have got nothing if he came second.

Sorry, I left these off my original post

VR 6: La Fav

Difficult, even race, but I did like this ones run last start, need $4.50 E/W
Number 7 Jack Be It is a big, big danger and may be the vaue. Back them both. Numbers 1/3/5 in multiples.

VR 7:

Cant take bromjeune here, 1400m, and big weight / claimer, will be too short and although one of the top raters, this is not a one horse race. Having said that, is a definite winning chance

I would rather back the 9 Nothing On Deck E/W, should get $5

Yeah it was a nice win, I knew it was an even race and only rated the 10 two lengths off La Fav, but didint put it in tri. Should have done your trick Mav, standout with the field. Think I'll wait a bit longer yet, If I can have a few good months and build the bank who knows. Still qn ex any two still good

Have you got a database showing your ROI with your top rating standout and the field Mav? Would be interesting to see if you stay in the black.

Didnt bet in Muswellbrook luckily, nothing went right there by the sounds of it. I like to watch a couple first in some of these NSW county tracks to see if my ratings are on song. To make up with it im going well in wellington.

maverick1993
22nd August 2005, 04:36 PM
Hi tarbs
I haven't got seperate figures for my trifecta betting..have them all together as sometimes depending on the price of my selection i'll go 20times ect with my other 2 or 3 top raters ..just depends on the number of runners and how my ratings have worked out....
Trifectas have always been good to me and last financial year showed about a 35% profit..i never kept acurate records initially when i used to bet 3/6/6 and 2/7/7 for a 1/2 ....these were surprisingly very good to me ..as i never did ratings back then and just followed the market ,,,
I know a couple of professional punters who never bet on excotics ..but i find them good value..1st 4's and trebles have all shown small profits but i'm still refining the selection process ..

Dam 2nd ..deranged tried to get onto the better surface but couldnt ..needed to be in the middle ..oh well ..
always tomorrow :)

22nd August 2005, 04:39 PM

Still can tget that killer to give me a really good day!

I'll try with one more bet in the last at Wodonga

Wasnt going to have a bet here as there seems ALOT of pace. The 1,4,6,7,9,10 all like to race on the pace. The 4, and the 6 have drawn best so must be good chances despite the speed. The 5 and the 11 are good chances to come over the top of them. Have your exotics around these, perhaps:

The 3 is a backmarker and worth and EW saver

4,6,5,11 - 3,4,5,6,10,11 - 3,4,5,6,10,11

Good luck

*No Name For a Lady...never been afraid of maidens..this one has been trialing well and i like the way she fought on last start where she was wide..
*Evilina...gets the tempo to suit here..forget last start when fancied.thought Solmere could run a cheeky race here awell.. value ?
might look at Primus in the last ..depends on the price..
Rocky
*Kenya Keepasecret..no reason why he cant do it for us again..the extra distance shouldnt be a prob and is racing well..
*Stipend..got these covered .. might be to short to consider though .
*Mydam Twist..form around stipend is strong for this...claim helps..
*Regimental...forget last start..tempo against..so consistent ,,the toppy has a stack of weight but will still be hard to beat..
Swanny
*Old Harryallards lane e/w.....big field with a fast tempo..harry could run over them at the end.. love to hear Mr Eds take on his chances ..he owes us both a bit of cash..

He's a prick of a thing isn't he, looks thrown in at the weights and with speed likely he will be charging home again and has a chance, can't have a decent crack at him ever again however. Aggro was a really nice run last start, he did a lot of work but ground away well to be clearly beaten by Kelcher who had all the favours and just in weight here, Aggro will get the lovely sit from 4. Tanna Hero won as she pleased last start and the second placed horse (more beer) won in Adelaide last Saturday, that was a very leader bias track so be wary. No Spice found plenty to beat some decent plodders last start and must also be given a chance. Too hard for me, but if my left testicle was in danger i'd have to say Aggro e/w.

Flu Blu is one i'll be on tommorow despite drawing worse then badly. He is lightly raced but all three of his starts have been full of merit. Last time he travelled well in transit and came very wide and went for home around the bend, it's only a short straight at Murtoa and he looked beaten, when Wit kicked again but alas Flu responded and just failed. He has led before and also taken a sit, but he looks like a horse who needs plenty of galloping room, looks to have a decent sprint so with a good speed on he can get back and reel them in (hopefully). There's a few horses in the race that might have form in better races, such as Shifting Sands who is likely to start very short, but they have had plenty of chances too, this fellow is on the improve and looks tough to hold out. He shouldn't be hard to spot, just look for the big grey jumping from the main street.

How about this one:

SWAN HILL 10-10 SWAN HILL :D

All kidding aside, it's actually got some chance. Perhaps you could play around with numbers 3, 4, 6, 7 & 10.

On to the more serious tips:

CANT R2 - 3 NO NAME FOR A LADY & 1 SHARNA MYST (3,1,4,5 - 7,8)
CANT R3 - 7 PROSPERING & 1 INVOLVE (7,1,6,5 - 10,9)
CANT R4 - 1 PFENNIG & 4 GOLDTOWN (1,4,3,5)
CANT R5 - 1 KELTIC FLASH, 7 Draw The Line (1,7,6,2 - 10,5)
CANT R6 - 2 PERMISSIVE, 7 Evelina (2,7,10,8 - 5,6)
CANT R7 - 5 LONGHORN & 2 PRIMUS (5,2,4,3 - 8,9)
SW.H R6 - 4 KING HUT & 8 Z'AFFAIRE (4,8,1,2 - 3,9)

Agree with most of Mav's tips for Rocky.

ROCK R4 - 4 KENYA KEEPA SECRET & 5 TIPSY MCSTAGGER (4,5,9,11 - 1,7)
ROCK R5 - 1 MYDAM TWIST, 5 Bay Of Plenty (1,5,2,4 - 7,8)
ROCK R6 - 2 LEVERAGE, 5 Aprimadonna (2,5,3,1 - 7,8)
ROCK R7 - 4 OUR JIM BEAU, 3 Native Knight (4,3,5,2 - 1,8)
ROCK R8 - 4 REGIMENTAL, 3 Quartpot (4,3,2,1 - 5,7)

Won't be betting in all of those races. I'll look for a bit of value. Some of those I've tipped might be too short.

So I wont back beadman on the next fav....

Instead i'll look at Giteau and The Fangsta E/W

In the last in Rocky, have to admit Regimental is the best chance, short though. Not much pace in the race, only the 5 and the 8 generally race on the pace. Will need to be close to the lead straightening. Myceane could lead all the way, good horse but getting older, the toopy from the 1 barrier Tycoon Ted will be right behind them and may carry the weight if there is no pace. WHo knows where Quartpot will settle, if you know then you have the trump card here. I might take a rover tri with Regimental, boxed with 1,3,5,8, but I do like the 5 more and more

Who knows..

I thought Quartpot would be the key to the y race, couldnt decide where he would possy up, if he leads or pressures for it, Regimental wins, if he take a seat then regimental gets too far back with no speed and cant catch them - the latter happened. I boxed 4 with the first 4 but took a stupid rover tri (and of course the standout finishes 4th!) a couple times.

Got a few I'm looking at already for tomorrow:

Randwick R2-3 LADY TITUS
A 3YO filly which turned in a nice effort when 4th in similar grade two weeks ago. The extra 200m should suit and Beadman rides. A good each way bet.

Randwick R6-2 CHESS RECORD
4YO Redoutes Choice gelding trained by Gai Waterhouse which turned in a tremendous performance when winning at Wyong on the 11th. If there is a danger, it could be number 1 Missile Device. Slightly disappointing last start but a good chance of improvement here with Beadman on.

Others I'm considering:

Randwick R1-3 Impetuous Amour
Randwick R3-8 Fyodor (Each Way)
Randwick R4-5 For Arts Sake, 4 Rotator
Bendigo R5-7 Snappy Tom (Each Way)
Bendigo R6-13 Incinerator (Each Way)
Bendigo R7-2 Captain Zero
Bendigo R8-16 House Mouse (Longshot)

Eagle farm
Race 3, Vettories Image.. deserves a win..good run last start when wide ..had to tire..likes to get the lead and from the good barrier should get it..the distance suits will be very hard to run down..might be good e/w odds
Race 4, Bit Of Magic.. should of won last start..been very consistent should get the gun run...very confident.
Race 5, Merthy Rd.. i'll take on Lindalay here who got the dream run last start..merthyr rd did it tuff last start and worked to the line well in a harder race..start before was 2nd to loughlan which is good form..
will need a good price to convince me to take on Lindalay whos been good to me in the past..
Race 7, Medieval Time.. Huge run last start.was wide the whole way and still nearly pinched it..just needs alittle luck here from the barrier to figure in the finish again..going up in class but this doesnt look to hard....the toppy the danger..another that should be nice odds..

Randwick
Race 4, No wine no song e/w ..liked the way he was eating up the ground last start..still alittle short of his best distance but could runover them with a good tempo...Far Arts sake and impunity the dangers..
Race 7, Skittles ..ran out of puff last start in a hectic battle up front..1300m now .that should see him get the lead easier ....like him alot..been good to me

Bendigo
Race 5, Snappy Tom.. flying at the moment..will be hard to hold out here ..shinn a plus ..
Race 7, Captain Zero.. not sure if he's racing ..would like to see a claimer on board if he is ...looks to good for these ..

Adelaide
Race 4, El Saun Juanico.. gets back but when balanced up in the straight can fly..just needs alittle luck..good jockey now which will help.
Race 5, Lair.. Hard to go past the old boy now hes won for me..no reason why he cant do it again..had windswept autumn covered when they met last time and thats the fav ...dont figure..
Race 6, Enter The Sandman.. Big strong fellow..suited back to the shorter distance...needs a good jockey to get him going ..Price is ideal..

Confident in Brissie and Adelaide .. after a hard day today will hope for better luck tomorrow..
good luck :)

I like to follow certain sires some times, and Testa Rossa has been good to me the last 12 months, so before I even do the form for tommorrow, I already know I'll have a few bob each way on these below, just for fun. All the testa rossa's are hard looking and strong individuals, not flashy but genuine horses. I still say the now 3yo with the greatest potential is Testifiable (hope he's ready for the Caulfield Guineas), and like Testa Reale this weekend. Gai's runner below might be of interest.

Brisbane:

Race 1:

Dont like backing baileys horses, and might leave this one alone, but Line by Line raced extremely well on debut in feburary. Stewards report said slowly away and blocked for a run, but got beaten only 1.8 lengths in town, was 8th on the turn and sectional of the winner was 34.7 for last 600m. This horse made up 4 lengths in straight, sectional probably closer to 34 flat. Not bad for an early two year old. Has obvious ability and will be very hard to beat. Having said that, while only a maiden, the 2 & 5 are clear topraters. Others for multiples 1,8

Race 2:

Secret Donna - I just like the name! Is a lottery really, probably wont touch it though - 4,12 top raters, then secret donna and the 9.

Race 3:

Problem with this race is who leads, probably either the toppy or Golden Dollars. Golden dollars is a strong rater, and lack of pace will hand this too him. Vettori's Image is top rater, and agree with Mav, if he can hold out the toppy and Golden Dollars is the one to beat, 1,2,4,8 all worth a look could be some value amongst them. Watch betting moves of those who have never placed before.

Race 4:

Once again, big field may make up for it, but no genuine leader besides the aptly named Leader of the Pack. Drawn to win and wouldnt surprise with an upset. I'm not overly confident, Mav is confident so look to his if all else fails

Dangers 2,3,4,5,10(3rd place only),11(3rd place only)

Race 5:

Lindalay, Meerthyr Road and Filibeg three main chances. As opposed to last few races, there is a stack of leaders in this race. And, with the exception of common knowledge they are all drawn wide. John Hawkes has the highest strike rate of any trainer first up (still low around 15%) but this one Filibeg could run over them and has won first up before(and has drawn ideal in 2). Take these three in the try with your fancys/betting moves

Adelaide

Race 1:

Freedom run, top rater and top Jock - not confident, follow betting moves though... and D Hayes - could be a big day for him

Race 2:

Maybe Hayes again? First Starter

Race 5:

I respect lair (no 1) in this race, but slipmaster meets him 6.5 kgs better after ebing beaton only 2 lengths by him last start. Still rate lair on top, but watch that slipmaster doesnt catch a break. Having said that, there is NO speed in this race that I can see, giving Lord or War and Leewood, with the two best jocks an undeniable chance. Take multiples around these.

Race 7:

Numbers 4,5,6 should fill the placings. The 5 Molokai's Ladd from the draw is well suited, the 4 needs alot of pace on to win. Sabre lady a good chance also

Race 8:

Perhaps tic toc tac, good run last start, may get a good lead although double spirits may pressure him

Good luck, look forward to others postings, especially in meetings I havent looked at yet!

Can't have enough on Blue Collar Jack today.

He mixes his races but last time in he ran a blinder one day at Cranbourne, leading virtually all the way, he was going to bolt in by about 3l but shyed at a bird and finished about 7th. The form out of the race has been enormous with horses like St Louis Blue, Correct Amoonda and others i can't remember who all won their next start. His next start was at bendigo where he led and found sweet fa. He is nominated for the cups, which is always a decent sign for a maiden, he's also first up over 1400, which tells me he's done plenty of work for a first up kill. I am going to back this horse every start he has to make a profit off him, because he will win a race.

Good to be True, was back near last, last start in a race where there was another crajerjack run by VIAKALANI SMYTZER for the blackbookers. He came wide on the turn and was green as grass all the way down the straight, he might get to a decent quote with Soi Cowboy looking the class, and Reignite who's always in commision.

Will be on both today and maybe a running dubb to.

Well done Mav, you murdered them yesti. Sorry about Flu Blu it was a really stupid selection from that gate, i thought Flu would be dubb figs and the winner would be around even money but ended up real value and Blu no value at all.

Avenger, you lurking out there? How's the American racing been going? I really like some at Saratoga this Saturday. Travers Day, no less, but I've been waiting for a couple of these to run back. FIRST SAMURAI will try to step to the next level when the 2 year old takes on the top-rated Hugh Hennesy in the G1 Hopeful Stakes at 7f. The Frank Brothers Trainee ran roughshod over his last allowance field at the Spa on Haskell Saturday. Bailey rode one mount at Saratoga that day (Samurai), hopped on the plane, flew to Monmouth, couldn't land at the scheduled airport, landed at another, made it in time to win the Haskell on Bob BAffert's 3yo ROMAN RULER who crushed that field and is entered in the Travers on Sat. I like him too as he crushed Flower Alley earlier in the Saratoga Meet and could realistically be the top horse in training in the world today. He was injured earlier in the year and is now ready to show his top stuff.

Many people think the undefeated LOST IN THE FOG is the best around, but I highly doubt it. He looks like a sprinter only and has ducked all the top three year olds and is obviously pointing to the BC Sprint. But he is going to lose the 7 furlong KING BISHOP STAKES to the Steve Asmussen trained SANTANA STRINGS who eclipsed the field in the 7f Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago. He will be a nice price and really may be the best sprinter going. Definitely a good value play.

Zito has a 2yo who was scratced last weekend on a rainy day in a msw, but is scheduled to run on Sat. I can't remember his name right now but I'll get it in a minute.
The big most important thing about all these selections is how the track is playing. Speed has been holding in sprints, closers or stalkers in dirt routes, and honest on the turf but I'm watching the rest of the week closely.

Gotta go play some Aussies now. Hoping Mr. Ed, Sportz and Mav come through like usual!!!!

saratoga samchaz
25th August 2005, 12:16 PM
Superfly is Zito's 2yo but I am having second thoughts as Super Steve Asmussen has QUAHADA in the same race with Bailey and has worked the same slow steady works that all his phenomenal 2 year old stable of debut winners have and IJ would be hard pressed to go against this approximately 65% winner with 2yo starters at the Spa this meet. Just goes to show that teaching 2yo's how to break sharply makes all the difference. I don't know where they will be next spring but that's not my probem. I gotta score now.

One of his top 2yo's just swept the Monmouth stakes for juveniles and won the bigger one by 81/2 lengths. HE"S GOT GRIT is a key horse for evaluation purposes as he may be as good as the 2yo's at Saratoga othet than Hugh Hennesy and First Samurai, or maybe as good. I got some nice info on a Delaware Park 2yo trained by Mike Matz who ran at 12-1 the other day after stepping up to allw vs. a field full of horses who ran against GRIT. He missed the whole shabang by 1/2 length after being boxed and steadied on the turn, racing greenly down the stretch and closing against the unforgiving speed bias. His name escapes me right now, but he came in third to Creve Coeur (Grahma Motion's 2yo)in the 7th at Delaware on Monday. He is FAST and won his maiden at 19-1 so he likes to win at a price.

Thanks Mr. ED. Info like shying from a bird while enroute to an easy victory is why I came on this board. However, as I've become accustomed to, I got talked out of going to the local (15 miles) Turf CLub that handles Aussies as it would be too late and they would close early on Weds. night. This after I read that fellow punter your info on the bird, the key race with multiple winners coming out, and his nomination for cups. Figured he might be good price as it was his first up. I've gotta get my phone-bet account up and running. The Turf Club does close at their own discretion when only Australian is running. Every time they announce they are closing, every one there starts yelling and freaking out (rightfully so). You can still bet the later races but you better have a bank roll. Great angle Mr. Ed and I suppose Sportz as well if Dolphins Tycoon got second.

On another note, did anyone hear about the snafu with the mix-up about Dubai Millenium's half brother (Dubai Exellence) and another horse (Samood)from Darley Stables? The wrong horse, Samood, was shipped to a Perth stud farm and was found not to be Dubai Excellence by the organization in OZ that monitors such matters. The article stated that the whereabouts of Dubai Excellence are unknown. What's up with that??? It's at DRF.COM under Mystery Horse heading.

Just checked the American mutuals for Bluecollar Jack and threw up. W$18 P$8.80 S$10.00 That's a return of $36.80 for a typical $2 across the board bet($6 total). No to mention the $80 exacta for $2 or the $300 Tri for $2! How can this possibly happen every time I miss a horse?!?!? I'm gonna rip my buddy's head off. I figured the bird shying fiasco would mask the good run in the 7th place race and scare everyone off but I never figured 8-1. Although I didn't look over the form. Thanks anyway guys.

SS,

I almost always back more than one horse per race. The horses I post in CAPITALS are my top picks and the others are the ones I consider the dangers. In Ballarat R4, I had both horses equal top rated and backed them both equally.

BALL R4 - 3 DOLPHIN TYCOON & 1 BLUE COLLAR JACK (3,1,2,13 - 8,6)

Shocker today...0 for 4 invested,,but 0 for 7 selected,,Grand Merlot 4th and Dont Say a word to short..
Thought about having the day off tomorrow and finishing the week (Sun to Frid) ahead ...but as soon as i start doing that runners start winning without me..
So here goes ..i'v been alittle inconsistent of late so be careful...i'm actually confident about most of them though ..i'll try and get on early tomorrow to see if there is any late mail..spewing i missed Mr eds tip today ..at that price it would of set me up for the day..

Cessnock
*Wallarah boy....Gibbons knows the horse well,,its fitter after 3 runs back now ..lot to like about his last run where he made plenty of ground..thought Formula Ono would appreciate this class after tackling races to hard for him..
*Rostrum...huge run with the big weight last start..drops a stack for this ..Graham a plus ,,distance suits ..an open race this one so they might come for a few here..hoping for nice odds..
*Codie Cuddles...good stable..great last run over a unsuitable distance....performs well at the track,,alot to like here...alot of unkown runners ..the one i'd be watching is the Ryan mount Worondi who did ok last start and the extra distance suits...
Townsville
*Snick..gets all the ticks here...loves the track, loves the distance, good jockey , good weight, good barrier, good form..by my ratings will be about 1.20 ..but theres the toppy with the big weight that has proven that he can carry it..Vitegic who gets alot of ticks aswell,,and Don Sequalo who did the job for us before but needs to somehow cross from the bad barrier..and then you have RaidnRule whos mixed it with the best of them.. ???? not an easy race..
Snick gets the easy sit..so that should be enough.. good race ,,good value ?
Seymour
*Light of Day..will be prominent in a tough race..Gauci rates them well in front..
*Derringer e/w..made a heap of ground last start..gets a weight pull of the toppy..hopefully wont be to far back from the good barrier..Dunn a real good young rider..Robos Pal the one to beat loves the track.,will keep safe..
*Polyester Boy ,,gets back up to the 1400m.,, last run should just be forgotton..ridden a mile back to short ..made good ground..flying..

possible 7 selections...another drought sees me with a loss this week ,,and thats after jagging some huge tris and divies...
feeling confident :) or that could be just the beer talking ...

Good Luck..

Thanks for clearing that up. I figured the Bold letters were your best but didn't realize if you would back two horses to win. I did figure that you would have the exacta between the two no matter what. I still am new to the Aussie lingo and style of racing (much different than Europe and closer to American). Matter of fact, what did Mr. Ed mean when he said Bluecollar Jack "found sweet fa"? I took it as he was best of all and enroute to an easy victory. At least when my brother moves there next month he can start interpreting for me. LOL!

5th Geel 1)Satinspin- sure treated me nice last out at Flemington but looks to be short in a race void of much speed. Robbo's Pal might get an uncontested lead if the 8,9, or 11 don't press and carry his speed a little furher than usual. i still see him stopping as SATINSPIN goes by down the lane with #6 Shrogginet or #10 Derringer up for 2nd, followed by toss up forthird between 2, 3, 7, 14.
