HI Mad and the gang, still waiting for the pools to fill on a couple of races in Melb, but regardless, my biggest bet today will be Viz Vitae..Im still shellshocked after a horror run of 2nds..

I'll maybe be backing Zapache in the first, maybe Great Sweep in the second, maybe BodacioGood Luck menus Harmony in the 3rd and will back MR Sandgroper in the 7th

Having a gander at Moonee Valley this evening.

MR 3 Gonna take on this short priced fav Rewaaya, Megadeal for me. Expect both to be up on the pace with an old fashioned dog-fight down the straight.

MR 5 Maybe better or Red Dazzler. I'm a Dazzler fan but i am not certian he will get the trip, so I'll go Maybe Better just over Red Dazzler with Crevette a sneaky chance. Stratum is a danger but i am always cautious with Sydney horses running first in Melbourne.

I noticed Ryan's 3 wins and 2 places today come in races between 900m to 1400m. Probably just coincidence, but interesting.

Good luck tomorrow.

Sportz
23rd September 2005, 08:32 PM
I posted this on another thread. I suppose I'd better post it here as well.

In the first 3 races I had:
R1 - 1 Nicholas & 6 Prince Of Scribes
R2 - 6 King Alfred & 7 Rokocoko
R3 - 4 REWAAYA* (4 - 1,2,5)

Nothing in the 4th. From here on in, I've tipped:
R5 - 4 MAYBE BETTER, 1 Stratum, 3 Red Dazzler (4,1,3,13 - 2,6)
R6 - 10 EL SEGUNDO* (roughie: 16 Nothin' Leica Win) (10,16,1,8 - 17,2,14)
R7 - 6 MOCK* (6,3,7 - 1,4,8)
R8 - 5 Royal suit & 8 Barsha

Sportz
23rd September 2005, 08:45 PM
Well, there you go. What happened to Red Dazzler last start? Anyway, I got the first 4 which was okay. Vision And Power is a handy horse too.

Hey guys. Gotta go with Show Barry in the 6th.

He was a good each way bet, S&S. But El Segundo's pretty damn good. I've been following him for a while now. I just hope he can get into the Caulfield Cup. :o

Disappointed with Nothin' Leica Win. I thought she was the 2nd most promising horse in the race. Might have to forget about her.

mad
23rd September 2005, 09:17 PM
Go the Dazzler!

Yep no doubting Rewaaya credentials, certainly not now. However expected a better performance from Megadeal - oh well, onwards and upwards. The Red Dazzler win has lifted my spirits, even though i had him second to Maybe Better.

Silver_and_sand
23rd September 2005, 09:27 PM
Hey Sportz. El Segundo sure is good. I had him as a selection also, but with the price so short, I didn't bother. Oh well. Yep, shame about Nothin' Leica Win.

Tough to go past Mock in the 7th, though I think his price will be too short.

Disappointed with Nothin' Leica Win. I thought she was the 2nd most promising horse in the race. Might have to forget about her.You know sometimes Sportz you hear a lot about a horse in the papers/radio/tv/web etc... and it has to win to progress through it's campaign..... that pressure I'm happy to back against everytime... although I did pick him as my best rated.... however you've gotta hand it to him.... he delivered.... which is fantastic for the future.... I love a horse with a constitution.....

I think Mock will do it for us in the next..... let's see

Silver_and_sand
23rd September 2005, 10:02 PM
The horse with the inside barrier has placed in 5 of the 7 races so far tonight. I don't have a selection for race 8, so maybe just go with the inside draw #4 Fusaichi San. Though having said that, both Royal Suit and Sipowicz look good.

I decided to keep my profits from earlier in the night and leave the race alone. Lucky I did, because I didn't really consider number 15. Anyway, it wasn't a bad meeting. A few promising horses there tonight.

some pretty good racing there last nite..and fairly true to form I venture to say..Stix well done there..

My first two bets, Zapache and Bodacious Harmony both ran..you guessed it..2nd..great divs for place bettors lol, but no good for me..

Finally broke the 2nds with Fun You Are...a maiden too..how ironic....and I almost didnt back it.... The early 12.00's on Iasbet turned my night into a profit...(don't know if there were any better flucs as I placed all my bets on early)

I always get nervous when my first bet of the day runs 2nd..it has often set the scene for a string of near misses..

Mad ,I was cheering Red Dazzler home for you when my horse didnt fire...nice win.

Grand Final today..Go the Swans

Yeah, Whisperer, I'm looking for the old info on here about Blue Collar Jack. Sportz and Mav (or Stix) both had him last time, and Mav (Stix) had a great re-cap of his race back in March/April, now known as the "Chest Bird" race. I don't know if he can step it up, but there's only one way to find out. Meneef really looked good last week winning over the track (where the outside rail was the only place to be).

Horse Whisperer
25th September 2005, 09:32 AM
yeah i got on it the last two starts as well thanks to them, was amazed at the odds it was at last start, couldnt believe how good value it was.

Mav (Stix) had a great re-cap of his race back in March/April, now known as the "Chest Bird" race.

That was actually Mr Ed. He doesn't seem to be about the forum at the moment.

Yep, Blue Collar Jack was going to win that race easily before that incident and out of the race came St Louis Blue, Abitakash, Correct Amoondo and a couple of others who've all gone well since. Correct Amoondo is in this race again today and isn't without a chance. As you said Meneef is one to watch, but you should also consider Zipping. I've been waiting for this one to race. Just a shame it's come up against 3 others that I like. Zipping comes out of another very strong form race last start at Bendigo where he beat Graphical. Graphical came out during the week and won by 8 lengths.

Not sure what to do. I like Zipping for the race, but I certainly can't leave out Blue Collar Jack which has been so good to me. And as you said, Meneef was impressive last start. 8 & 1 both have good place chances too. I think I'll have to wait to see what happens with the odds. :o

Sportz

Sorry guys. :(

I was going to tip you all into Brendan McCoull today at Hobart, but I thought it would look a bit silly simply tipping a jockey. :o

I was confident he'd have a good day today. He's already got 4 winners up, so I'm not sure if he can get any more now. Yomee and Ladeto were my best bets down there.

Hey Sportz, How close was Blue Collar? I wish I had seen your post before playing the race, but I did use Zipping and Correct Amoondo UNDER Blue Collar. Oh well, Blue Collar Jack proved he belongs at this level. And a nod to Mr. Ed on the tip. I couldn' remember who it was. And what happened to Meneef? Probably had something to do with Dunn. He was killing me all day.

Sportz
25th September 2005, 05:48 PM
Blue Collar Jack was 5 lengths back. Zipping's pretty good, but Correct Amoondo was a top run and Zipping had a real battle to beat him. There's possibly a win coming up for Correct Amoondo soon. Meneef was disappointing. Don't know what happened there.

Hi Guys ...been off the job of late..
sad times with funerals , wakes ect but getting back into it..
alot of video to catch up on ..
reveiwing the stable as well..
have a few racing tomorrow..
Kembla
*Damaze, *White Christmas, *Prince Of Midnight,
dont mind Sydney City as well but i'm guessing to short..in the Cup i thought Taken at The Flood at e/w odds might be a go..should get the lead easier than last time and will give good sight up front..Zingam with the weight might be a risk..great run last start though and on that run should kill this in..but if he leaves it to late with the big weight..?? who knows,,
Townsville
*My Charlie, *Spurious (maybe e/w) ?

Good Luck all :)

Couple for today...
Townsville.
R 3 Chain of thought. Nothing wrong with the way this has been running. Running over pet distance here again and should feature in the finish. Barrier a slight concern but should have enough speed to get across.
R 7 stoney planet. Ran on gamely last start, will be fitter now and drawn very well to get a good crack at em'. May get decent odds.
MOE.
R 9 HOUR OF GLORY. should find this a bit easier today and is due for a bit of luck, gets this he wins..

Good luck to all 2day....

Nope.

In the end, I simply had the 6,9,12 for first, 2,6,7,9,12 for 2nd and 2,3,6,7,8,9,12 for 3rd. I was a nose away from picking up a great trifecta for just $30 (of course it wouldn't have paid nearly as much if My Charlie had got there for 3rd).

I guess I could have had 3horses for 1st, 5 for 2nd and the field for 3rd. That would have been $66 for a half I think. Easy to be wise AFTER the event though.

Never mind. I backed Enzeel and I was a nose away from missing out there. ;)

I did get some small compensation for missing the tri because I took 3 of those field any2 bets (with 6, 9 & 12) and for an outlay of $18, I got back $130.05. Not bad considering that I only had to get one placing from one of my 3 tips.

had 5 bets today and the one i was least confident about wins ??? dont figure..
handy 1st4 and tri a few times ..
funny listening to the race caller say that most punters would of dropped off him because of the drop in distance ect...thing is it was that exactly which got me intrigued ...good trainer is mr Purcell as Sportz would know..very craftly old bugger..
great ride aswell,,,he got him stoked up along way from home..

wasnt feeling to well with , Damaze, Prince of Midnight, My Charlie all there abouts but not good enough....wasnt all that fussed about Zingam but with the 10kgs off his back ??? with Banderra out it meant Taken at the flood was no e/w value...needs it by himself up front..

Sydney City was better odds than i thought..i was guessing he'd be evens...lost anyway but would of been spewing if he got up at those odds..

always good to be back in the saddle and not falling off :)

A few from the stable running tomorrow

Canterbury
*Port Peru, *Paper Blonde, *StyxnDaggers
peru with the blinkers should get the lead and be to speedy,
thought i'd take on the Biscuit and Chut first up..Paper Blonde is in form and a fit..ands should get the gun run just off Ambiose..would want e/w odds
Styx is a an improving stayer..this race doesnt look to tough for him and he's been solid around some good horses
NZ
*Text Message, *Godzilla, *Mybigfatgreekhorse
I'm still playing around with my ratings for Nz but i'm doing ok ...havent got jockeys yet but i'm fairly confident with these..
Balaklava
*Rotoga,
Liked his trial and his last run..good jock , ordinary field.
Eagle Farm
*Racer's rocket/*Taxable Income, *Big Mick ,
Couldnt split the the 2 in the 3rd..both improving stayers..like the jockey change of Jolly for Taxable Income,,Racers Rocket was unlucky last start and should get the gun run..will look at backing both and working the mulits around them..
Big Mick is in a tuff race in the last..heaps of chances with Tea Biacuit , Laras Way ect ..hard to rate the race with alot of runners jumping up or down and mixing form...Big micks last run was huge and the track should suit..should be nice e/w odds.
also like Pure dancer in the 1st..just havent a jockey yet..dont really rate Gay so i'm hoping a better jock jumps on..

Good Luck :)

What a crap day :( .. made more with my past the time play bets than i did with me system bets, ...
alot of close calls at good odds ...frustrating day..

Seamer has seemed to of lost form..maybe has lost alittle strength because of the break he had..but he doesnt seem to have that urgency or confidence..one of my favourite riders and i'm sure he'll come back..
good to see Palmer with a double ..we'll be seeing alot of the young fellow in town..Triechel who's another coast rider that wont be far behind him...

Hope you guys had a win or few ...
Good to see Sporty is still as consistent as ever..

Isnt Saturday looking like a huge day...i'll be there in the thick of it in Sydney ..hopefully i wont be so drunk that i'll remember it ....
Going to be a huge GF aswell,,, i'll need the week off to get over the hangover and we always end up at some dingy hole (excuse the pun) at the Cross at 3 in the morning ..where they charge $10 for the one beer they have that comes from some ?? actually i dont know where it comes from...tastes like poluted creek water,,,
always a great time.. :)

Stop The Traffic was ridiculous odds. I was hoping for at least $2.50. Al's Flyer was good though and a nice trifecta as well.

Same sort of problem with Fabiarna. Looks like it'll probably be stupid odds as well. :o

Gday Sportz...

Stop the Traffic was miles ahead of the rest of the field on ratings... miles.. so I think $1.9 was about a fair price.. not ridiculous... What do you base that on? (the ridiculous price comment) I have often said on this forum, odds on horses, even those that deserve to be odds on DO get beaten at times.. this was one of those times

I agree (sort of) about Fabiarna.. but it would only have been about half a point under a fair price.. Again it was clearly the best rated horse in the field, altho not as clear as STT, and deserved favourtism.... tho $2.4 was a bit short, IMHO a fair price was about $3

XPT,

This is what I was referring to.

I'm certain that one of the main reasons behind the short price was that every man and his dog seemed to tip those horses today. Actually, that really should have been a good enough reason to leave them alone, as those over-tipped horses so often lose.

That's what I meant by a ridiculous price. I'm certain Stop The Traffic would have been at least $2.50 if it hadn't been so heavily tipped today. And likewise Fabiarna would have been $3.

Sportz
28th September 2005, 06:55 PM
By the way, all things are relative. I personally thought Graphical would have and should have been around $1.30, so despite being shorter than either of those other two horses I mentioned, I thought it was actually a pretty generous price!

Gday Sportz,

thats the nature of the para mutuel markets... I am not sure about the tipping being the main cause , but I wont argue that..., I will say however that my priceline was 1.9$ STT... thats why I questioned your reasoning, because u are usually close enough to the mark... the weight of money from punters had STT at tomato sauce odds, and you are right, that is the signal to move on... As you know I dont take odds on.. even if they deserve to be odds on... they don't win often enough long term to make a profit.. I am sure someone wll either shoot that down or suppport it..

The last in mel, Fabiarna was a lil bit short but not by a whole lot, again it was no bet because of the short price

I think that these 2 favs going under make the case for setting a floor price for what punters will accept as fair risk... I think a min of $4 is a good starting point maybe even 5 or 6... What do others think? backing those shorties, when they fall over is a short cut to the poorhouse.. and they fall over often enough
Just my opinion

gday Sportz,

you rated Graphical a lot stronger than I did... I still had it on top from Benevole.. but not at 3's on... not with my money Again IMHO that horse was pretty short and didn not deserve to be that short... so I lost on that race... But Hell, thats racing we all have differing views and thats what keeps me interested

Race 5
4 86 Graphical
1 69 Benevole
2 69 Middlemarch
8 48 Indicates
6 44 Mandezvous

I agree with alot you've said X .. I'll take a horse at 2.40 but it would need to rate a good deal higher than the next horse in the race..
Scenic Assault and Daka's Gem both Wa horses that usually start at very low odds have been good to me....I trust the shorter priced favourite over there and Sa as the pool of horses are smaller and the form is alittle more true..easy to rate the race aswell..
I think the key word is value....and as Sportz said Graphical at 1.60 was probably just that..
Personally i love the short priced horses running around..it helps with the odds on my selection..i dont have any fears taking on Shorties that i dont think deserve to be...

Have a couple running around tomorrow.
Gosford
*Walarah Boy (good track)
Ipswich
*Moonbi Nymph, *Aretino
NZ
*Jezadane

Confident about Moonbi ..will be my first full stake selection for a week and a half....should of won last start but got smashed..has been scratched from SC to target this race ...was close up to Natural Blitz in a barrier trial not to long ago..Katsidis knows the track well...others are ordinary..

I had Al's Flyer rated well above the rest of the field including STT. Weird eh?
Considering you (XPT) had STT well above the rest. It is like when 10 different people all have their "best bets" in the same race but everyone best bet is a different horse in the field, so the entire lineup of horses is given the best bet tag.

In terms of backing shorties, the only reason i don;t do it is because i don;t outlay enough in the first place to make it worth my while. Although i agree with the reasoning that if you have a horse rated at 1.1 but it starts at 1.5 that is a good bet. I think all-ups are a good bet to utilize though, i know one pro who uses them all the time. If i was betting say 500 the win or whatever i would have probably had a double stake i.e. 1000 on bentleigh biscuit yesterday, but because i only wager small ammounts i was happy just too have a couple of bob each way on amboise so i ended up getting money back and bit extra and there was always a chance that a roughie got up.

Also i had a pretty good day betting the outsiders in small fields yesterday. I got about 4, a couple at northam and missed out on mavericks honour who just went down by like a half head.

Ahh the tyranny of the punt..After a horror run of 2nds that just doesnt seem to end for me, yesterday, in desperation, I pulled a hunch bet out of my ass (outside barrier horse, tab1) Nothin Leica Cuza.. that just stared at me for no good reason... I throw a lousy $20 bucks at it, it bolts early, almost bowls the fave over (according to radio commentator) shoots many lengths out in front, lke a horse that cant be stopped, and yet still wins easily..(swab that horse!)

Then I decide to do something else completely different with some of my ill gotten gain, take some parlays (something I dont normally do) with Moonbi and Walarah and threw in Wokandi to win as a saver plus a parlay. (hunch bet ..outside barrier?) simply because it kept staring at me, again for no damn good reason.

So what happens? Wokandi salutes.. and the form horses, about which I am confident don't. Moonbi..runs 2nd...Go figure..it sure gets frustrating sometimes..

Once again, I think you should probably stick with the strength today and consider Allan Robinson & Greg Ryan at Tamworth. The odds probably won't be as good as last Friday. But there's no reason why they won't get a few wins up and you could perhaps couple them up in multis with the next 2 or 3 in the betting or the Radiotab tips or something like that. Robinson looks to have 4 or 5 good winning hopes and Ryan has a few too.

Hope I haven't put a jinx on 'em. :o

Sorry guys, have been busy last few days...havent done the full video analysis so tread with caution...we've had showers throughout and strong westerlies...track will be on the soft side of dead, Im guessing.

R1 Foxy Date will try and lead them all the way but I think Imaginaire will be flying down the straight and Winning Scene (who still has a lot to learn) a threat also from the back...Gold Tally and The Den for the multis

R2 Stormy Gale will be at short odds but I like Dance To Heaven (with the claim) and Pure Black to race handy and Shake Your Bon Bon and Aiko coming form the back at the finish...Shake might be a good each way punt.

R3 Graduate Boy and Snacking to fight out the finish with Ripped, Kaluto (who prefers the sting out of the turf) and Travelling Boy in the multis...

R4 Star Of Telesto with Jessica on board will be hard to beat...Magical Gold gets a better track and likes the distance...Master Minx is first up this prep but has been against much better than this lot...Greenstone Boy has promised lots and yet to deliver (after a good finish behind Wire Detonator on a fast Belm track) and Perfect Outlook (who will lead them) and Beau Pago for the exotics...

R5 To be honest, just about have to field bbooked in this one so will probably stay away...Stir Pak and Legend Express to fight it out and Siesta Bay and Changing Lanes for odds

R6 Attractions will be short and the fave...Durbridge Toy will be thereabouts...like Beyond Dispute to try and take them on again down the straight and My Thornbird for the multis.

R7 Going to take on Scenic Assault here will be deserved short priced fave but think it will be carrying a lot of weight (even with Jessies claim) and the distance might be too short...Stratazoa is going to control things up front and I think with Dion Luciani on Classic Chevron might be able to steal this one after racing handy and has a great comparative sectionals...well thats what Im hoping lol!

R8 A very even race with a lot of chances...going for A Lot Of Hooley (good finish behind Beaucreton last start) and Seymour Mist (slashing run over 1650m previous at Belmont) with Paris Bank, Antico Mio and You Are My Hero for the multis...

Good luck guys and hope you get some value today:)

Interesting that Isanami blew out terribly in the betting and ran accordingly. What do you guys think when that happens to one of your selections? Do you still back your horse, do you leave it out, or do you put even more on it???

from the lot i posted , there were 24 races for 9 winners returning 41.5 units and 16 places returning 32.5 units.. so all n all it was an ok late afternoon early evening.. If this method stands up I may keep on using it as a primary selection method.. at present it is finding winners 33% @ $4.38 and 62% place at $1.84

I posted 22 horses... 1 was scratched.. so from 21 runners.. there were 5 winners for a return of 16.2 units a loss of 4.8 units the win, and 10 places returning 15.1 units a loss of 5.9 units... pretty poor day.. but the method is still way in front, especially on Metro tracks... Eagle farm is looking particularly nasty tho.. ah well... I will struggle on :)

Overall it is showing about 25% profit on all tracks and about 55% on Metros

That's a bit crook Glenn. It'll probably improve for you when Daylight Saving comes in here in a few weeks time.

Some tough races there and I didn't study Wyong too much, but here's a few thoughts:

Cran R3 - 2 ORANGE FREE STATE, 7 Johnny Knoxville (2,7,4,10 - 9,3)
Cran R4 - 2 KELISION, 1 Ragazzo (2,1,5,7,9)
Cran R5 - 13 SWEPT PAST, 11 World Exclusive (13,11,3,5 - 2,4,10)
Cran R6 - 7 ABITAKASH, 8 Ducks, 1 Sunboy (7,8,1,9 - 11,13,10)
Cran R7 - 10 LIFE'S A JOY, 3 Valkyrie Diva, 12 Regal Oamaru (10,3,12 - 4,2,8,7)

Wyng R2 - 3 RIVERINE (3,8,9,4 - 1,5)
Wyng R4 - 6 BEST ON BOARD
Wyng R5 - 2 MONTE DREAMER, 1 Sporting Globe (2,1,5 - 7,4,8)
Wyng R6 - 7 RUBINDA, 4 Rich Erin, 10 Danehill Lass (7,4,10 - 8,5,3)

Damn. I could have tipped you the first winner at Wyong, but when I looked at the odds, it was paying $2.50, so I ignored that race. I just see that it's won paying 3 times that!!! :(

Belmont...
Just a quick summary for Belmont today as have the ma-in-law :( arriving this afternoon so got to do a few things around the garden (lol) and shopping...

R1 Air Race (is back to distance and conditions) and PJs ride will be the faves...Backed Silent Wishes last start...had it all against her ...Stewards report read...blood in mouth before the start...jumped awkwardly...threw head in air fos some distance...commenced to run keenly at 700m and then blocked for run 450m to 200m...She was on a slow track and ran all over the place before flying the last 50m to finish 2nd to Sweet Record (PJ)...Vern rates him and I will be taking on an each way...lots of others for the multis...Fleeting Angel, Lounge Hound, Blancmange, Orpenchic and Try For Value.

R2 Will I have another go on Sergeant Mack or is he going to always be the bridesmaid? Why not...last chance and has been flying from the back...not sure what sort of pace will be on...Delta Master, Our Blitz, Exstra and Lets Go Thommo for the exotics...

R3 Zedfire is consistent and will be fave after a couple of months off and goes well fresh. Sandy Point is carrying a bit of weight but has Jessies claim and shes flying at the moment...Evaluate tried to steal it from S Point front running last time and will try the same again on a dead track (last start was slow)... Sandy Point to sneak in again.

R4 Keys Ace has been running on in better races than this and is the one to beat...like Talbot Bay and will check price before deciding how to bet...

R5 Ive done a lot of $$ on Zedeisha and will leave her (shell probably win lol) and go for Stratham Streaker who is finishing very strongly (same conditions as last time and is peaking) Rosskaen for odds and multis...

R6 Coalseam has to win won soon...this should be the one...Vasari beat them by 3 lengths (1400m) last out and now gets a firmer track so will be the danger- Jaunty Lad and Super Tom the multis.

R7 Lady Avonlea owes me plenty and Im going to give her one more go...Baltic Boy (has been consistent in better races) and The Quartermaster was an improvers first up run last start will be the faves...will include Vie For Vanity and Uncle Graham in exotics (box?)...

Good luck all today...will be at the track looking for some value before mum turns up...:D

Cran R4 - 2 KELISION, 1 Ragazzo (2,1,5,7,9)

I didn't like this race because it was only 1000m and I don't usually bet on anything under 1200m. Glenn, are there any beliefs over there in the US about which distances are the best to bet on? Personally, I prefer 1400m-2000m although I will bet on other distances occasionally, depending on the class of the race. I very rarely bet in races less than 1200m though.

TheAvenger
5th October 2005, 02:09 PM
We generally agree that its best to avoid the really short ones, less than 1100 M. Also, maiden races, especially 2 year olds are tough. In spite of this, some here love maiden races, and we even have "quarter horses" whose most common distance is about 400 meters, (yes, thats 400 m) Each to his own, I say. I love thoroughbred racing. It is generally thought that the 1200 meter races are the easiest to pick a winner.

Damn, I just put the 10 and 4 together in a quinella at Wyong race #3, and the #4 was at 50-1 here. I love it! I have bet the 1st 5 races at Cranbourne and lost them all. This may be a track that doesn't like me?

Glenn

Well done Glenn. I'm not liking the look of Cranbourne now. It's been raining pretty consistently there and the track's been downgraded. I did all my ratings for a dry track, and I think there might be some funny results now. If it continues to rain, Gaju Chief will come right into calculatons for the Cup and to a lesser extent Charnwood Green and Hunter Hermitage. And in R9, Shadow and Beecher's Way will have to be included.

I'm already having a quiet one. But I don't mean a drink. I mean I'm having a quiet betting day. After it started to rain at Cranbourne, I decided that I would cut right down today and it's proved to be a very wise decision. Will still have a bit of a go at the Cup, but I'm not going to risk too much.
