I think all but one met in the Jungle Dawn Classic, although we now go up in distance from 1400 to 1600. The winner that day Zanella goes up 3kg but did win easily by 2lens.
The exclusion Empire Dancer will be suited by the distance and looks a genuine chance.

Main Stage and My Thornbird are early scratchings from this race. Assume could be the end of their Perth Cup campaigns.
Officially it's over for My Thornbird which is a shame! The Adam Durant trained gelding has failed to recover from a foot abscess and will be sent for a short spell and set for The Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups early next year.

(4) DANERETTE is my top selection. 2 starts this track for 2 wins. 2 starts this distance for 2 seconds. Should break bridesmaid status (distance) today.
Good effort by (1) GAJU CHIEF last start going down narrowly at Sandown over 2100. 3kg claim brings him well into this.
(8) OUR BAHARE been racing well of late. 2 starts back narrowly beaten at Sandown over 1800.
4YO gelding (6) JUKEBOX JOHNNY capped off his last campaign with a 2nd (2040) and 1st (2400) in the city. All the better for his first-up run over 1600 at Sandown late Nov.

We have an action packed 9 race card for you today with the C.B. Cox Stakes and the listed Starstruck Classic being the main features.
Today is the final lead-up for many Perth Cup bound horses. The field of the C.B. Cox Stakes usually produces the next Perth Cup winner.
I have not read any form guide for this, so today is the Trifecta & Quartet Day! I will give you my top selections for each trifecta and quartet race, my first selection in each race will be the horse I think has the most chances to win.
If any of my selections win in each race then I am happy. Put them in your trifectas and quartets and let's see how we go.

I don't understand why they keep Olitate at minimum distances for, surely they could put it in a 1400m to 1600m race. I think it'll be a better ho*** over more ground. Stay away from Olitate until they do this or it shows better form.

Just take for example the poor quality fields at Canterbury tonight! I got to the stage of just backing the roughies for a bit of an interest... nil return until the last 2 then managed No Name For A Lady ($19.10 & $3.50) and Ghaliah ($8.80 place) and Kadazan in the last $132.00 & $24.30  The interesting thing was that the last winner's best performance (based on my ratings) was over same course & distance back on 10 Aug 05 against much stronger class, so would have been a value bet under normal circumstances!

LOL Can't see it would be any worse for easterners than the 3 hour time difference we already 'enjoy' in the west during summer..our betting day often starts at 9.30am and goes right through to the last WA dog or trot race for the night!

Sorry I havent read all the posts, but can someone fill me in as to why Saturday's meeting starts at 10:45am and finishes at 3:20pm?
Is there a race course in the eastern states called Ascot? LOL!
Anyway, shame about the lack of class in each field, doesn't give me too much confident to go out and buy TAB-Form unless it also contains Mondays racing too.
Have we ever had a meeting that started around 10:45am/morning?
I can not really think of it.

Stay tune as we see how much money we can bankroll in order to purchase christmas presents for our family and friends.

Plenty of pace in this race so would expect Scott Seamer to settle (from a good draw) the Gai Waterhouse trained (11) TANTRA just off the pace and be too strong for them over the last bit. Main danger should be the Danehill colt (4) BARLAGARNEY, assuming he can handle the reverse way of going. (2) MEL from a wide draw will race with the leading bunch and will be hard to catch with any luck in running. The erratic Catbird filly (10) DIAMONDS AM I from a good draw also a good chance.

Like a few former eastern staters lining up at Pinjarra today. Index Case (R5) goes well first-up, suited the 1000, has a good draw and jockey. Escape (R6) has wins at Moonee Valley, Flemington and Rosehill to his credit. Not beaten that far at WA (Ascot) debut, has won 2nd-up has a good draw and jockey. Colonel Mustard (R8) stablemate of Escape. On paper a shade disappointing at WA (Ascot) debut but drops in class today.
Also a watch on King Kade (R7) who drops in grade following two runs in WA (Pinjarra) after a spell. Suited the step up in distance and has blinkers added today.

Not enough disclosed form for my liking so will likely just watch. Mel, Barlagarney and Tantra look the obvious best chances, the latter is trained by Gai Waterhouse who has previously won this race with Sunday Joy and How Funny.
Looking for value perhaps Special Offer who put in a great effort at his debut back in November running 2nd over 1000m at Eagle Farm then put in a shocker (when fancied) same track over 1200m following a 2months layoff. Run too bad to be true that day and could improve dramatically today.

It's Happy New Year Day from Ascot by the river. Today will be a very Happy New Year Day for the connections of the horse who wins the 119th running of the Perth Cup. This exciting and gruelling marathorn will be played out in front of a crowd anticipated to reach over 40,000. The Perth Cup is the race all local horse owners, trainers, jockeys and punters want to win. As well as that we have eight other very exciting races in this nine race action packed meeting. The state’s premier staying race was first run in 1887 when won by First Prince.
There is also a massive quartet jackpot on this Perth Cup race. The quartet pool is expected to reach $100,000, so have a punt.

Although only having 2nd start post 10 months break expecting (1) VANQUISHED to be just a little too strong for (3) SEUL AMOUR . (2) SAM SUNG A SONG also hard to beat if he can handle the 2000. The Gai Waterhouse trained (8) LAKE SUSANNAH having her first start over the journey could beat them all if allowed an easy run in front. (6) GILDED YOUTH some chance at odds worked home well at second attempt 2000 last start.

(8) FLYING PEGASUS is my top selection. Showed heaps of ability as a 2YO and has won two lead-up trials into this race. (10) CAPTAIN BAX had no luck last start when narrowly beaten by (1) PRESENTLY who is my 3rd pick. The Gai Waterhouse trained (7) FUMBLE boasts a great 2nd-up record of 3-2-0-1 and won’t be far away. Value inclusion the former Hong Kong sprinter (12) MAJESTIC FEELING who came from last to get within 0.9len of Presently at his last start.

The Lee Freedman trained (4) TOMMIFRANCS very hard to beat assuming he can handle the step up in distance. The lightly raced (8) SENTIRE next best from (12) GENEBEL and (1) DIAMOND JAKE. Also include (multiples) (9) SOUTHERN CROWN who has a great record this track and distance.

(2) SPORTSMAN has a good first-up record and from barrier 7 will race handy. (10) AMEX back in form goes very well this track. (6) MITANNI has to overcome a very wide draw but had no luck last start behind Amex and also loves this track. Can’t leave out (3) DEVIL despite a couple of poor recent runs. Excels this track and distance. And for value include (11) GRANDWAY SHOGUN who’s only win this track was 2nd-up as per today.

Index Case backed into favouritism but unplaced. Where there's smoke there's fire (so they say) - follow.
Escape also unplaced. Drifted in betting. Also worth following.
King Kade was most impressive in winning :) $13.40 unitab. More wins in store;)
Colonel Mustard unplaced but another drifter. Watch.
