The Fighting Tigress has been sold (75%) to victorian Shaun Buckley (owner of Perfect Promise) and will now be trained by Lee Freedman.

Former trainer and owner David Mueller retains the other 25%.

Albany Wednesday...

Blinkers come off PUSHY PRINCESS in race 2. The former Victorian 4YO mare has not started since August 2004 and finished midfield in a recent Lark Hill trial. Would expect she’ll need a few runs to get race fit. Perhaps a small speculative EW wager just in case.

Watching with interest for results of today’s trials at Belmont in particular the performances of Metallic Storm winner 5 from 6 and having her 2nd trial since a spell, won the last. And Mr Sandgroper returning from a spell and an unsuccessful short stint east.

Hold Your Hennessy blew them both away eagle1. Won very easily. Metallic Storm not pushed out to be a well beaten 2nd. Mr Sandgroper big in condition finished well back.

Hold Your Hennessy looked very good initial prep (they even took him to Melbourne). Last prep disappointing. Might see the real Hold Your Hennessy this time around, did look good in the trial.

On the subject of greys fav Moodometer looks the one to beat on Saturday. Liked the way she got to the line last start when ridden back a little.

2nd fav Imaginaire the hardest to beat. 2400 should suit her down to the ground.

Bunbury Sunday...

Race 1 not a bad last start effort by former Victorian EGOTISM at 2nd start in WA. Back to a maiden today and looks a genuine winning hope.

Race 3 former Victorian ALICIA MARIE looked very unlucky at WA debut when had support. Has won a barrier trial since and will be a lot fitter for this hit-out.

Race 4 former Victorian SARACEN STAR should be ready to show something following 3 starts post-spell in WA. Drawn a bit wide but has an in-form jockey aboard to compensate a little.

Yet another ex Victorian TOM COUREUSE has performed with merit 2 WA starts. Faces a handy field race 7 but drawn to get a good run in transit.

Race 8 we have ex Victorian EXHILARATING who’s been a beaten fav 2 starts in WA. Should be spot-on for this and sure to have an army of supporters. The lightly raced MR MUNDINE won a Kilmore maiden, had a short stint in SA and completed his most recent campaign in Darwin.
Has had 3 trials in the west and might surprise while fresh. Another ex Victorian LADY KISEKI ran a nice race C3 at her WA debut. Didn’t have the best of luck that run and although suited by over more ground does have a nice alley and drops back to a C2 today.

Nice selections there, westineast. I also am interested in what Let Go Thommo does over the trip today...

Sat 08 Apr 2006 R8#10 Magic Haul. Don't be fooled by his formline - this boy is improving with every run. He never saw daylight last time when I expected him to quinella the race with winner Gran Paradiso. My estimate for that unlucky run is 97-99 which compares well with the winner's 97. Before that was a nice 101 when pipped by in form Action Pak. Today I see him improving again by around 4 points which puts him right in this finish. Lets hope he can get me my first collect for the year!

And I really like Impact Rating in the Derby...

Bunbury Wednesday...

As previously posted huge plunge PUSHY PRINCESS to start a short price favourite at WA debut, beaten 1/2len into 2nd spot which was a first-class effort considering the very long layoff. 2nd-up today race 1 with Willie Pike taking over from Alana Samson (who’s been engaged for first starter SAFE CROSSING same race) REQUEST GRANTED from NSW debuts race 1 after a long layoff. Just 3 starts for this 5YO gelding, the last two beaten fav. Has performed fairly 2 recent WA barrier trials.

Race 4 sees the WA debut for former cockroach BRADETTE. Hasn’t raced since late 2003. Pacifiers on and has performed ‘fresh’ in the past. Same race former Victorian mare COUNTRY JOY should be fighting fit after 4 starts in the west but is racing out of class.

Race 6 former South Aussie CONJURE debuts in the west. Blinkers first time today, racing out of class but drawn well and will be ridden by Alana Samson. Former Victorian LADY KISEKI should have benefited from her 2 previous starts in the west but like Conjure is racing out of class.

Race 7 former banana-bender IMPERIAL THEATRE resumes 2nd campaign in the west. Only 2 previous WA starts heavily backed (and beaten) first-up C1 then unplaced C3. Has the services of the FISH today and may be primed for another first-up tilt.

Race 8 we have 2 former Victorian’s engaged – 3YO gelding RAW HAUL debuts in WA following a short spell, has gone well ‘fresh’ previously. Maiden galloper EGOTISM should be at her peak for this with 3 good (WA) runs under her belt.

In this race tomorrow wondering why Paul Harvey is off Kia Ora Miss and back on to Alpine Lad. He's had a good association with Mathews so maybe that swayed the decision or he think's it's a better chance? Looking at the video of their last race I just can't see Alpine Lad improving 3 lengths even if it was over 1400m and tomorrow over 1500m. Moves like this though make you ponder a little. Either way the winner should be from no.s 1 or 2

Alpine Lad covered a lot of extra ground (from wide barrier) last start anchor so the 3 lens diff is misleading also blinkers first time that race and could settle better tomorrow with that run under his belt.

West Love was the most impressive trial winner at Belmont yesterday.
Clocking the best of the day for the 1000M, the 3YO filly a winner of 4 races from 10 starts (also ran close 4th Gimcrack Stakes) cruised the final bit and looks set for a good campaign this time around.

Pinjarra Wednesday...

Ex Victorian MISS MAYBELLE is having her 3rd start in WA following a spell (race 2) and should be ready to show any true ability.

Former NSW galloper PHILATELIST is racing 2nd-up today (race 4). Last start not beaten far this track 1200M. Previously had initial short campaign in WA doing enough to suggest she has some ability. Step up in distance today will suit, could surprise.

Former eastern states galloper Ownership is first-up today (race 5). Has also had a short initial campaign in WA not showing much. 2 lead-up trials this time around not beaten far in both. Likely to be at outsider odds, a little EW might be the go. Same race maiden galloper CHIANTI is over from NSW where he has been placed twice recently from his only 3 starts. Tackling a C1 today but has shown promise thus far. And we have another from NSW MENDOZA. Won and placed in country NSW, last start Feb 06 so freshened and might surprise at good odds.

Race 7 former NSW gelding BRADETTE is 2nd-up today. Failed first-up Bunbury where he wore pacifiers for the first time. Pacifiers and nose band come off today, suggest a little EW at very likely big odds.

All of these bar Vodka Lime and Translate went around in the Karrakatta. Vodka Lime is unraced and Translate did run on well last start winning over 1200 but this is a big class jump.

Should be same tri (and same order) as per Karrakatta with perhaps Real Cheeky improving 1 posi to finish 4th.

By race 5 we'll know if racing off the fence is racing as well as or better than the inside.

Professional Lady will be on the 'inside'. She has a gear change - Bar Shoes On. Maybe something not right with a hoof or two. She's jumping up sharply in distance and she's had plenty of racing. Valparaiso went by her easily last start. She'll dictate the race unless P.King decides differently on Jacks High.

Imaginaire will be 'off the fence'. She is certainly 'fresher' than Prof.Lady, distance is perfect, 51kg might entice Luciani to go a bit earlier, will probably hope Jacks High applies some pressure to Prof.Lady to help her pick them up in the straight.

Kyoshi should be suited at the track (which favours on pace runners) and is my top selection.

Topweight Shane's Boy is an interesting runner. Known for his sprinting prowess he has done ok over this distance previously.

Likewise Diffraction who won the Karrakatta Plate as a 2YO.

Multi city winner Servincent has been disappointing of late but at best would be very hard to beat in this.

Racing at Narrogin Sunday - a course where previous experience can make a difference.

R1 GANDOLFINI was a beaten favourite only Narrogin start. Not beaten far and done ok since.

R3 YOUNG ALBERT placed all 3 starts this track/dist.

R4 OUR STARSIGN and CLASSIC ENIGMA have both done ok Narrogin and look good ew chances.

R5 BAWCLASS and EMPHASIS ditto.

R6 SHANE'S BOY just pipped only start this track. Could surprise over longer journey. (see also my Narrogin Cup tips)

R7 LORD WILLO, DEMANDING ACTION and AHABSTER have all performed well at Narrogin and could easily make up the tri.

Most impressive heat winner was Dee Picked ridden by the pontiff. The winner of 2 of 5 starts the 3YO colt easily won his heat in best of day.

Foxaround also put in a good performance to win her trial. She has a great strike rate - Starts: 18 1st: 5 2nd: 2 3rd: 4 4th: 3 - and was not pushed out to run the next best of the day.

Most interesting win of the day was that of Garbo's Storm. Ridden by the pontiff he just pipped handy galloper Top Drive. The former victorian is yet to race in WA and most of his previous runs have been over middle distance.

Was impressed with The Black Pig's Ascot debut run when only beaten 1 3/4 lens behind Yarraman and Price Regal after a tardy getaway. Back to a maiden today and although likely will start short has to be the one to beat on his first-up effort.

Fortunate Smile another with a good chance. Very unlucky last start.

Nice debut run by To The Throne at Geraldton a couple of weeks back.

Mail around for the unraced Cloontakilla who was a solid trial winner at Geraldton end of Mar.

Main dangers (4) All Bar One and (5) Messiaen (another great EW chance!)

If they leave All Bar One alone in front they won’t catch him. St Basil & Picaday look the main dangers. Messiaen and the west aussie Denmarket and would have to be at their very best to figure.

Small field R2 tomorrow both greys in with a chance. Ears Loppy racing out of class but has shown some promise & sure to have admirers. Ellenbrook also racing out of class but done OK C5s at Kal recently. Nice run former vic Ruanaidh last start & should be cherry ripe. Topweight Driven To Victory always a chance this type of race. Tricky little affair!

Gwalia Guy not without a chance in the R6 prefers more distance but is still fresh. Air Lord resuming goes ok fresh. Sand George 3rd start back following 2 runs city, performs well Kal. Discretely, Western Zed, Golden Desire & Miss Cherub have all been thereabout. Wingate City nice run last start at Ascot. Another tricky race.

Impressive Stats has struck a very small but very handy field for his return to racing.

Impressive Stats has impressive stats (Starts: 22 1st: 10) but so do the rest.

Great Nation (Starts: 15 1st: 9 ) defeated Yaya Lad a few weeks back that horse has since won.

River Mist (Starts: 34 1st: 8), Gobiton (Starts: 21 1st: 6) and Foxaround (Starts: 18 1st: 5) are all resuming and capable of putting big runs first-up.

Is Amazing (Starts: 17 1st: 7) defeated Miss Castaway a few weeks back, that horse went on to win at her next start.

All in all a very interesting race!

Lay - Race 2 is a super little race. I'm potting Attadale. Will be in the market having won its last 3 and has Harvey aboard again but today's race is stronger than what he's been up against, which have been trot and canters.

Watch - Race 4 is a very interesting contest. Impressive Stats with in-form jockey may lead but is he at last year's level? Great Nation rarely misses a place, River Mist likes the course&distance, Gobiton to receive a good run from bar3, Foxaround can't be easily discarded, Is Amazing was a great win 2ndup though back to 1000m the query.

Back - Race 5 Kia Ora Miss is up from 3YO class to open Fillies and Mares but I think she's actually well in against this lot with 54.5kg. Not a lot of speed around so I assume Harvey will send her forward. The odds could be the problem.

Westman, no redemption, your first comment was spot on - ouch. Lost plenty on Attadale which on my numbers reached a new high again. Then Kia Ora Miss was too short so stood it out in the Tri and lost that. Backed Gran Paradiso in the last to put the nail in for day. Well done Jessica Hill riding a double.

Fastest trial winner was Third Option. The Flying Spur gelding who is yet to race in WA won his maiden at Kembla Grange in late 2004 and raced with moderate success (without winning) in Victoria mid 2005.

Most impressive trial winner was Electic who defeated a smart field under a strong hold. Electic has an impressive record of 15 starts for seven wins, two seconds and a third with prizemoney exceeding $150,000. Electic best win to-date was the RS Crawford Stakes at Ascot last November, when he defeated O'Flirty, Miss Andretti and Arctic Park.

Belmont Wednesday...

Former Victorian galloper COMACCHIO in race 5 didn’t set the world alight debut run in WA although beaten only 4.75lens Ascot 1400. No money that day and the extra distance of today’s race a big plus for the mare whose pet distance appears to be around the 1700 mark.

Boyracer race 7 got going late at debut run WA when beaten 4.25lens Ascot 1400. No real money for the former Victorian gelding that day but like Comacchio will appreciate the extra distance of today’s race and 2nd-up record not bad.

Former Victorian gelding Garbo’s Storm is set to make his WA debut today. Previous first-up record not all that flash but will be driven by Paul Harvey, races with blinkers first time and did win a Belmont trial over 1000 a few weeks back when ridden by the pontiff.

Tough race depending on how it pans out. Should be plenty of speed which will suit fancies Air Race & Etcetera Etcetera, and not so fancied Hero Of The Dawn & Lady Edwinstowe. If either Foxaround or Stone Man get it easy early then very hard to run down. Interesting runner down from the NT Cormeoghan where he’s been lumping big weights around with success

Winning Scene is capable & should be value had no luck last start

Major Key capable the short distance while still fresh. Designer Show glu shoes off (good sign). Mr Telini in all kinds of strife last start but still won, up in class but been placed in city previously. Swoopers Best Buys, Forest Frolic, China City & Crystal Grey all capable if pace is on. Back to a C1 for former South Aussie galloper STONECUTTER in race 7. First-up not sighted C2 this track but fitter for that run. Former Victorian galloper PETITE SURPRISE same race, won at WA debut at Leinster. Opposition stronger today but did win her last start easily.

The Fighting Tigress to set to have her first start for her new trainer Lee Freedman in the Straight Six at Flemington this Saturday.

Miss Andretti, part-owned and formerly trained by David Mueller, joined the stables of Lee Freedman after her 11th in the Newmarket Handicap on March 11.

Great win by the sandgroper Miss Andretti yesterday. Had a good win on her EW also took her with the field quinella which paid well thanks to a bit of an outsider getting 2nd :D

Clearly the fastest heat winner yesterday was the lightly raced 3YO Friar's Touch. Easily beat handy older horses Rooftop Grosve and Stir Pak.

Two starts only last campaign for two wins, Friar's Touch resumed earlier this month but was a well beaten 2nd fav. Yesterday's run would suggest a much improved effort is just around the corner.

Much improved effort indeed westman! Couldn't beat the fav but beat the rest easily! Back in the winners circle before too long ;)

At most recent Belmont trial both Hartleys Dream and Zed Power looked well when running 1/2 in the fastest heat of the day. Hartleys Dream whose most recent win was the listed Farnley Stakes was ridden by the pontiff whilst Zed Power who disappointed last campaign was ridden by Steven Parnham. Both horses have performed fresh in the past.

Interesting to see how Zed Power comes up, westman. A year ago blew away a field over the Belmont 1200 then last preparation at Ascot didn't get warm. Only had the 17 starts for a 5yo.

Sandgroper
29th May 2006, 10:10 AM
Something definitely amiss with Zed Power last prep. Showed his usual early dash to lead them up first-up but compounded although fought on pretty well in the Crawford behind Electic. Then raced near the tail next 2 starts after slow getaways. Being an entire perhaps his mind was on other things  Definitely better than that & has raced well this time of year previously. Goes OK all types of track. I’d be expecting early success if he’s going to show his true colours this time around.

SunsetCoast
29th May 2006, 01:09 PM
I notice that handy stayer Mafeking ran 3rd in the trial. Like Zed Power had a shocker last campaign but being this far forward after a 5 month break could be a good sign.

And in case nobody noticed the smart Avenido Madero finished 5th same trial! Obviously they're taking her along quietly at this point in time.

Considered a good thing beaten last 2 by many judges Etcetera Etcetera on Wed will race with the addition of blinkers (one-eye blinker – left) and a lugging bit!!

Will be very interesting to see what Adam does next if those gear changes don't reap a positive outcome ;)

Belmont Wednesday...

In race 3 former NSW country galloper DEANGELEENA is having her 2nd start in WA. Fitter for run1, she will appreciate the extra 100 today but best previous form over 1600+

Another former NSW galloper BARON ORCZY will make his WA debut race 4. Recently ran a top 2nd to Magnus in Sydney but then failed twice in Melbourne. Now relocated to Perth and reported working along nicely for trainer John Price. Gone OK first-up previously. Blinkers come off.

Race 7 former Victorian BOYRACER is having his 3rd start in WA and obviously will strip fitter for today’s race. Best form over more ground but has been placed over 1600.

Another former Victorian ACTION SHOT debuts in the last. Also raced in Qld and NSW with some success. Better over more ground but has run well first-up in the past. Yet another former Victorian ARUNEE same race will line up for his 4th start in WA and should be ready to show best, and former NSW galloper BRIGHT CHARM will have his 2nd run in WA. The lightly raced 5YO gelding was well beaten first-up and exposed form suggests he prefers the sting out of the ground.

Race 2 thought a very good run by Last Reply coming from 2nd-last to run 3rd. Fitter for that run.

Race 3 HUGE run Let Go Thommo! Ran a faster time than Is Amazing for the 1200. Also ran the fastest sectional time of the day.

Race 4 Cape North bounced back to winning form. Nice run the runner-up Prince Of Vasac.

Race 5 Banner Storm lumping 57kg after claim wins again - 4 from 4 this prep.

Top runs the first three race 6 - Is Amazing, Electic and River Mist. Steptoe again disappoints. Hartleys Dream fails to show his customary dash first-up. Avenida Madero has her mind on other things.
