A few first starters with good trial form & some with good race form should make for an interesting race. Very impressed with Hantu’s last couple of runs but see that Alana Sansom has hopped off Hantu to ride Yaya Lad. The latter won at his only start (18 Dec) beating Hantu by 1.5 lengths & now meets that horse 1kg better.

The very promising gelding Plastered is set to return to racing in the Listed J.C. ROBERTS STAKES (2000M) at Belmont on Saturday. Not started since his huge Melbourne campaign back in October last year. First-up over 2000M after a 4+ months break? Makes for a very interesting race at the very least!


First-up over 2000M after a 4+ months break? Just proves (as I'm sure a lot of fellow forumites are already aware) that nothing beats race fitness, no matter how much better you really are, especially if racing first-up over a bit of ground. Not one of Paul's better rides, and was surprised he got as close as he did. IMO this race had the makings of a 'no-bet' race. A lot of punters got burnt.

Watsonnek, I've spotted that you are usually on the ball? is that your own ratings??? just interested as I'm in West myself. Though today I was VERY surprised that you left out Local Legend, which is more than a legend for me it's a bloody HERO. But there again I left out Field Commander last week and am still weeping!!


Hi partypooper. Selections posted are based on my own ratings (very much still in tune-up mode) filtered by my own personal assessment (or ‘gut feeling’ as many on this forum put it). In the case of Local Legend it was actually my 2nd rated horse, but my gut feeling let me down big time. Thought he wouldn’t run out the distance, based on his last race performance, where stepping up in distance, he was ridden off the pace but showed no zest last bit, so I left him out of my posted selections. I did however have a little saver on him in the end as after all he was my 2nd rated and was representing overs.

Watsonnek, re Local Legend, yes I see your point, though my observation was badly hampered last run, and I got the impression "too late, never mind next time" and as finished "just" within the magic 3.5 lenghts from the winner, it was still on. in the race i had 6 listed horses so bit of luck.
but only bet on one race today and that was the cup.
i was intrigued by hero mak being significantly shorter than power mak and appeared to be trained by the same people.
the listed placing over the distance made it worth a go.
whereas hero mak had failed over the distance in the pinjarra cup and as it turned out failed again today.

In Race4 Denmarket will be favorite from Hantu but I'll tip Belarus as a blowout. Had good form last October. Blinkers are on first time, has rails, PKing.

Race5 is the fillies version. West Love will be favorite. No Questions hasn't lost yet though, and beat West Love in November over 1000m. Has barrier 15 and will probably give West Love a decent start. Prefer to watch.

Back to Race1 they've taken blinkers off Ser Grill. That was strong form race last start. Sun Konyah/Annanon's Gift obvious chances.

Market looks pretty well spot on, with West Love, Hantu & No Questions appearing to be the main chances. Might have a little EW on the 25/1 shot Scopaciri. Races on the pace & has a nice draw. Also has the services of an underated jock - Jason Whiting. I’ll also be watching for any betting moves for the untried Connell.

Glad you got on wasgoner. Thought Piednippie Boy had a real good chance of running into a place (1200M normally a bit short) but got a dream run on the fence behind the leaders and did look the winner in running. Nice result :)

I'll try and post a bit earlier (didn't really think anyone was paying attention :) ) Likely you missed the last race almost another very good result.
