Hi Guys, just back from a spell. Was at the meet. Great day. Crowd well above average. HUGE run the MightyM & still lots of room for improvement.

Any other good runs / horses to follow?

ok run but he needs to improve race manners.
When hit with the whip, he went backwards.
Jock then resorted to hands and heels and came back to run 4th.

Congrats sandgropers. WA’s Miss Andretti has been rated the world’s best sprint mare.

Fred Kersley dropped a bombshell yesterday when he revealed that Marasco was no certainty to run in the Cox Plate. Marasco could be switched to the Australian Mile Challenge.

The Challenge offers a $1 million bonus to the connections of the horse who can win the $1 million Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 10, $1 million Carlton Draught Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 24 and $700,000 Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield on March 1.

What's going on with Perth racing. 3 horse race yesterday (R1) 9 races Sat most small fields!

westwinners
23rd August 2007, 11:27 PM
The 9 race card is a result of the last race being canned on Wednesday, due to 'dangerous conditions'.

Yes the small fields are a little concerning. There seems to be plenty of horses resuming from winter spells, yet the numbers are down??

I expect when we finally get back to ascot there will be some monster fields again and we will be complaining about how hard it is to find the winner!

There may also be another culprit; RBH. Perhaps the new handicapping policy has pushed a few more runners out to the provincials and country where they can compete against others with similar ratings??? rather than carry the minimum in town and give away sometimes 20 ratings points...

The late West Coast Eagles champion Chris Mainwaring will be honoured with a memorial race at Geraldton next Sunday, October 14.

In conjunction with Geraldton Turf Club, Chris’ brother Brett has organised a race to honour the popular champion’s memory.

The race will carry the title of “The Chris Mainwaring Memorial”.

Brett is a former amateur jockey having ridden for many years at Landor, Kojonup and Carnarvon riding numerous winners in the process.

He last rode at Landor in 2003.

The memorial race will be held the day after a planned candle-lit vigil at Greenough Oval Geraldton on Saturday night.

Greenough Oval is the home of Rovers Football Club the first team that Chris played senior football for.

Pat from Perth, yeah, sorry mate we shouldn't do it should we? I actually had a decent place bet as well, so it finishes 4th, the only thing is at least it confirms the form as it was 2 kg's better off with WRC for a neck and still runs behind it. I lost a bit on my place bets overall but picked up a couple of good wins so ended up ok. you?

Don't know about Pat, but the last was VERY lucky for me :)

Not much so far eh dockerkev, 2 out of 3 runs not up to par, only decent run when ridden from behind, perhaps there's a message there ;)

NORTHAM CUP Race 7 - 5 Mikaldico
Was on course and owners and trainer were spewing over the ride by King (finished 2nd). Northam straight is longer than Belmont(which is long) and the horse does not have a long sprint. He was told to ride it cold until the 300-400 metre mark and then let it go. Jock didn't listen and took off at the 600 metre. At the 300 metre was in front but champion jock Paul Harvey on the favourite held his run and over powered Mikaldico in the final 200 metres. If you backed each way still in front but the poor ride killed the win chance.

Anyway back Dark Image at whatever price next start. Was climbing all over them at Ascot on Saturday. Jockey Paul Harvey protested 5th against 3rd and was upheld. Would most certainly have won and done it easily and appears a class horse.

Sorry meant Dark Target not Dark Image in my previous reply (last paragraph)Absolutely furious after that ride by Harvey, disgusting. This horse has 5 lengths on any 3yo sprinter in work in Perth at the moment and hes worrying about getting a rails run!

Managed to get $1.95 early in the day and the god damn thing was never off the bridle.

What, no comment from anyone? We wont know until it next races but i have seen all 4 of its runs and other than its first start when it walked in it hasnt ben given a good run yet.

It literally toyed with its oposition 2 starts back when caught 3 wide the trip and won in second gear. Then it was never out of first last start so we havent even begun to see what it can do!

Its only my opinion, but i guess time will tell :)

Apologies to writing this on WA racing thread but it is a great thing to learn,
don't look at the event or competition but at what the horse acheives.
Weekend Hussler was incredibly impressive in it's first start at Cranbourne, I prayed "Please don't let this horse start again without me knowing, please"
Matching course records is no easy feet.
Every win so far has been sensational, and it stands out DESPITE the lack of competition.

Common sense = El Presidente

Gut = Beat The Storm

PPM (Partypoopers Plum Mover) = Hartleys Dream (b4 scratchings)

A decent win on El. but if Hartleys had got there it would have been my biggest win in Australia in 20 years. shouldn't complain.

I'm on record here as saying that Hartleys Dream was much better than most thought, but of course that was b4 El Presidente. Tell me WHY even propelled by 93-1 (Unitab) , didn't I take the quinella???? I don't know, I backed El. P. to win and HD EW + numerous attempts at the Tri.

Just another "big fish story" I guess.

Thought New Spice also a good run from a futures perspective
Like Guyno will get better with extra distance

Until barriers were released thought New Spice & Mansion House were genuine chances against El Presidente. Still think they’re the main trio.

My outsiders Daka's Gem & Hartleys Dream

a very VERY nice result :D

How do you go past El Presidente? I'll be playing the first4. Could be some value. A few of the outsiders are capable of placing.

...no complaints here...had only a tiny % first4 but still collected $700+
