MARUBOS (winner York 1) surprisingly well thought of for a nag who has run last past 2 starts beaten 9len and 10.5lens albeit at Belmont

I backed the wrong one, I did not think P Graham could ride 4 winners. Anyhow you guys in the West make sure that you follow him and Ms S Drake in QLD.

Blinkers come off Black Shadow C3 winner 2200 Bunbury so will do me.
The toppy Victory Trio a bit short has good recent York form and good run last start this distance.
I thought Super Sentele would be longer odds last couple runs at Northam good.
Oaksville capable EW.

Well the tri might have only paid $26.50  but that's still a 10.42% POT if you boxed them for $1 unit. Not bad for a few minutes investment ;)

I’ve already posted my selection for the last at York - Freaky Kontiki but I also have a liking EW for Precious Resource. Been freshened after a few below average performances and does seem to do best early in his campaigns. At the 14/1 currently on offer might make for a good saver.

Last looks pretty tuff! I've settled on (2) Classic Quarters.
2 starts back close 2nd class3 this course distance back to a class2.
A couple of good runs at Belmont not that long ago. Should be handy in running and a bit too strong at the end (I hope!)

Most surprised the pontiff has only a small book of rides at Pinjarra today.

Riding Aunt Dorothy in race 1 - first-up for about 6 months, just the 2 runs, the last run at Belmont a reasonable effort.

Nothing in race 2 or 3. Rides the unraced Diamond Grey in race 4, did OK recent trial.

Nothing in race 5 or 6. In race 7 he's on Border Control, running out of his class but 2 starts since a spell have been good. And in race 8 his mount Metalikali been scratched.

Guess he'll have plenty of energy remaining for Ascot Saturday!

Well the pontiff did well with his small book - Diamond Grey won, the other 2 ran 2nd. :)

Didn't back the Diva today Never bet in the Cup At least haven't for about the last 10 years Find other fish to fry Works for me Do love the social stuff though ;)

Anyway joy to behold today History being made I'm still on a high and as I said I didn't even back the Diva!!

...and just as I'm writing this post up pops robbos roughies..would you believe first time I've backed them...great work robbo (and the diva!)

Well I certainly know when to pop on the forum to check out robbos roughies (not really but it’s sounds good!) After that 25/1 winner the other day had my 2nd “plunge” on robbo's selections yesterday and boy was my heart in my mouth! I really thought Red Sovereign had got there, what a huge run for a another 25/1 shot. Great work robbo!!

Do have to agree with sportsmad re Bomber Bill. On his best he could manage a place if a few others ran below par. I’m also going for Cape of Good Hope the weight turnaround should be enough to turn the tables on the mare Glamour Puss which is my 2nd selection. And for 3rd / 4th put in the 3YO colts Stratum and Jet Spur who look to be well in under the race conditions.

Sat 05 Nov 2005 R1 #1 Star Trek. No pace allows him to get a strong 1800m here and he leads or tracks #9 possibly. All other condenders behind him. As usual, has taken 5 or 6 runs to get to peak and last time ran 108 in finishing off fastest behind It's A Legend. Only concern is Jock a -1.5. Dangers 4, 8 (if it leads) and 5 who has had problems.

Good luck,

St Malo was the fastest trial winner today at Belmont winning comfortably by 2 lens.

By Kenvain this stallion has raced all over the place including Vic, NSW and Qld.

Shown little in WA so far but perhaps on the improve. And wait for it (puntersteve) he’s a GREY!

Winners of 2 other trials same day worth a mention.

Maiden 3YO Buttonhole pelted home from last and looked in great order, won’t stay a maiden for long and she should develop into a handy middle distance commodity.

The lightly raced Spin Silver has returned from a spell in fine fettle. He was very impressive leading all the way in his heat and won with plenty in reserve. Should measure up to city class.

Not sure I share your confidence westwinners. Just the 1 win in roughly 2 years and not gone the journey although races like the 1800 would suit.

Contrary to rumours trainer David Mueller has confirmed that a Railway Stakes start for Miss Andretti is not on the cards AT LEAST FOR THIS YEAR.

Although a 5YO The Fighting Tigress is very lightly raced and the trainer doesn’t think she would get to the mile in top class at this stage.

As a matter of interest if you take a close look at Miss Andretti’s bloodlines apart from her grandad Royal Academy she’s actually bred to be more of a stayer than a sprinter!

and I don't disagree with David Mueller one bit for ignoring the Railway Stakes for the tigress. Look how Elli was going this time last year and then how she performed in the Railway.

On the subject of Lark Hill trials Monday former top 2YO Royal Fire did a solid job to beat a good field winning the 2nd last heat of the day. His best win as a 2YO was the listed Supremacy stakes beating Shout From Maroof who ran 2nd behind Diffraction in the Karrakatta Plate and raced with great success as Natural Blitz overseas winning 8 of 9 starts in Macau - the first 8 in succession! and also ran 3rd behind Silent Witness in the 2004 group1 Hong Kong sprint.

Royal Fire raced with moderate success over east in 2004 and returned to Perth early this year. Didn’t really fire (excuse the pun :) ) but has since been spelled and gelded (ouch!)

The runner-up to Royal Fire's in the trial is no slouch either - Great Nation, a winner of 8 from 11 who at his last start back in July won the listed Beaufine stakes beating Arctic Park.

Race 4 Ascot tomorow.

(1) CAPE OF GOOD HOPE is the best suited at WFA. Superb effort in the Salinger going to the line very strongly. Fitter for that run just his 2nd after a spell. Has a fantastic record against some of the best sprinters around today.

(7) STRATUM looks the best of the 3YOs. Did all the work in front in the L’Oreal and only beaten 0.3L. Queen Of The Hill who should have won that race now has to concede Stratum a further 3kg in this whilst the winner of the L’Oreal Jet Spur got a nice cushy run in the slipstream.

(6) GLAMOUR PUSS was placed behind straight tracker specialist Falkirk then good win (Salinger) up the straight last start.

(5) TAKEOVER TARGET has been plagued with injuries so wether he can recapture the form that saw him win his first 7 races is problematical. Nothing wrong with first-up effort in Salinger when loomed up to win, but his condition gave out over the last bit.

Read your summary Saturday and it convinced me to invest a little on this race even though I normally stick to WA races. Nice result too. Tri in WA paid $269.30. The quinella and exacta also paid well. Thanks for your input In_retrospect it certainly steered me into a profit. :)

What’s the consensus for the Guineas?

I think the winners of the two traditional Guineas lead up races the Fairetha and the Burgess Queen, namely Manjar and Snacking, are going to fight out the Guineas.

They each ran almost identical races from widish draws and their times were very similar. Manjar clocked 1:23:16 (34:33), Snacking clocked 1:23:13 (34:25)

Weights will favour Snacking in the Guineas. Manjar will drop from 56.5kgs to 56kg whilst Snacking will drop from 56kg to 53.5kg.

They’ve met just the once so far, in the Belgravia a couple of weeks ago. Manjar won carrying 54.5kg coming from last, Snacking carried 56kg and was beaten 2.25lens but had excuses as she had difficulty obtaining a clear passage in the straight and was held up for the majority of the last run home.

And the trainers of both horses have previously had WA Guineas winners. Trevor Andrews won with The Right Money in 2002 and George Daly won with Vows in 1991 and again in 2003 with River Mist.

Should be a great race and at this point in time I’m leaning towards Snacking to just pip her male counterpart Manjar.

What about the two 3YOs that went east - Imaginaire and stable mate Destiny's Day. Assume they are both back in the west by now and if okay would make sense to run either or both in the WA Guineas

Buttonhole nominated for the last at Ascot this Wednesday ;)

Buttonhole was actually nominated for 2 races Wed. Assume the better race (i.e. best chance of winning) has been chosen by connections ;)

Ellicorsam’s listed to start in the last trial at Lark Hill Monday
Be surprised if she faced the starter considering the hard run she had yesterday

So did she run in the trial today or not? For some reason can't get on the website to check!

Some good runs from Ascot Sat included Major Key (R3) slow start pelted home; Sheihallion (R4) didn't settle early, checked 700m still ran on ok; Modaney (R5) slow start, held up between 200m & 50m; For Shame (R6) slow start checked 550m just warming up last bit; Moondalo (R7) wide throughout but still ran on well.

Geez I'm sure if some of the regulars to this thread were investing at Mt. Barker today they would have had something on the winner of the last. Brings a smile to the dial just thinking of some of his posts. If you're still keeping an eyes on things at this forum irish, hope you're travelling well ;)

Funny thing! Since the 'Paddy days' I often have a flutter on irish-related named horses (if I think they also have some genuine chance). From memory Paddy did pretty well with his irish stable in one of the comps that was running on this forum some time back. SO, YEP I did have a wager on Young Paddy in the last at Mt Barker Sunday. Had ok form fresh looking at previous starts, so that was enough for me :)

On the subject of irish-related named horses have a strong liking for the Mayfield-Smith trained (6) Irish Crusader in the listed Bendigo Cup tomorrow. Should now be fighting fit with a handful of starts since spell. Not beaten all that far last start Moonee Valley over 2500m. Handles all track conditions but does seem to do best with the sting out of the ground. Looks a nice EW chance. (1) Tosen Dandy and (13) Soi Cowboy look the main dangers. My outsider (10) Garidar

Not sure I share your confidence westwinners. Just the 1 win in roughly 2 years and not gone the journey although races like the 1800 would suit.

In that same heat the above average Tribu mare Grasspatch Girl is set to hit the track after a 5month break. Finished off her last campaign with a strong 3rd behind another above average mare Miss Andretti.

Well Grasspatch Girl won her heat by 4lens in the equal best time for the day. I’d say the stage looks set for a good campaign.
