Universal Ruler was once the top sprinter. First up over 1400m is a surprise but I guess connections know best!

Great ride the pontiff. Did win a couple of trials before today. Still, a fine training effort.

Yes, Pike getting valuable experience now, then be ready for the new season.

At Belmont on the weekend a couple of notable runs. Tudor Lad was very impressive, finishing sprint like a good one. Only had 6 starts for 4 wins.
Anyone that backed Can Time in the stayers race should follow up next time in the same class. Nearly everything went against it in-running. At its previous start
easily beat the same bunch. Also lightly raced and new to staying.

Promising sprinter Vizard put in a shocker today, in the listed Beaufine Stakes at Belmont. First-up after a spell, Vizard ridden by Paul Harvey, started equal favourite but was beaten 9.75lens in 2nd-last position.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Harvey advised that the gelding raced in a flat manner. Trainer George Daly advised that the gelding’s performance indicated that it may not have fully recovered from its recent trial on 6 July 2009 and further it was now his intention to send it for a spell. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate.

Great to see former sandgroper Let Go Thommo back in form. Were you on guys?

And another goes around in the last tomorrow at Flemmo. Cats Fun. New trainer. Was with Freedman. Some chance fresh.

Any thoughts the sprint tomorrow? Escadaire. Vain Raider. Oroya Gold. Danes Mystery. Classy Nugget resuming. Looks a tough race.

schonegg
7th August 2009, 10:53 PM
I reckon if Vain Raider gets the easy lead then the backmarkers have a tough job. So Danabeela looks to get the right run, and 2nd up last prep over 1200m was only pipped by Hay List. One of these should win. If there'd be any pressure on the leaders then Oroya Gold has to be in the mix.

Back to race 5, this is the sort of race Scenic Bullet has been busting to race in. No doubt was disappointing last week, didn't pick up, but Morton is backing him up quickly over a course and distance that has shown his brilliant best. No excuses tomorrow.

Really had every chance Jake. A bit wide on turn but peaked about 100m out. It's sacked!

What's worth noting from the days racing is that 6 winners led throughout, another leader finished 2nd beaten a short head, and the other leader raced off the fence which isn't its go, but was still only beaten in a blanket finish. There could be a case for bias along the rails. The rail was out 6m.

Hi RJ. Made a tidy profit on Let Go Thommo when he raced in Perth (from memory won his last 5 in a row) so I always have a little on him when he runs over east. Been a while between drinks, so I really did enjoy the spoils on this occasion.

Yeah schonegg, the racing yesterday was certainly leader dominated. The run of Scenic Bullet was rather disappointing, but I wouldn’t write him off completely, yet. Was taken with the runs of Kid Choisir who did it with ease & Kasabian who overcame a wide draw and was still able to respond to the challengers over the last bit.

Seems incredulous that he can't win the WA horse of the year because one of the criterias is that a win must be in the home state in that racing season. Won 2 Group1s in Melbourne then a Group1 in the UK but ineligible for home state honours http://www.propun.com.au/racing_forums/images/smilies/confused.gif Rules are rules I guess and Morton probably isn't fussed.

Hi RJ. Yep, Miss Andretti is carrying her first foal (to Exceed And Excel). With regards to being sold, apparently one of the two owners want to sell Miss Andretti (with foal) but other doesn’t. Potential asking price said to be very big bucks. Wait on further development.

No Hat, other than reading todays papers, he's currently in England getting ready for the Japan race, then to HongKong after that. The Sprinters Stakes is big money , the race worth nearly $3m AUD with winner getting about $1.3m, and he'll get another $1.2m bonus if he wins there for having won in 3 countries.

Hi Hat, I'm going to take a chance hoping Late Night Flight gets the trip. It should press on and lead from Yes We Can early, then hope Chloe gives it an easy time.

Isn't Reverend Lovejoy so consistent, 6 wins from last 9 starts. It should get the gun run behind the leader, or move to outside it at some stage, so you have to throw it in all the multiples. Gondorff got cluttered up on the rail last time so it might help coming with a run down the outside this time.

A few to follow from Belmont Saturday.

Baskerville Street, nice win, should continue to improve.

Black George, winner 5 from 7 this campaign, still further scope for improvement.

Vain Strike & Chance In Time, both got to the line strongly behind Top Gun & should go on with it.

Comments from Morton after todays trackwork:

- jogged 1 lap, cantered 1 lap (turf course)
(exercised from 6:52 to 7:09 on turf, ridden by Daniel Morton)
"After some hard work yesterday, his condition is very good. He just went slow this morning and he felt very nice. He's eating well.
I was always expecting it to be a fast track here, but a little bit of this rain will help us.
I don't know much about your horses here, but he's in good order so I expect him to run very well. The draw (No. 7) is great, since it'll be easy for him to move to his ideal mid-field position.
I intend to just walk him around the stables and take him to the paddock tomorrow morning."

We've got the return of an exciting sprinter in Dante's Volonte in the Birthday Stakes. In the run it may lead or take the trail behind Vain Raider. If either are off their game or have a duel then an Oroya Gold/Tarzi would capitalize. But it's a watch only race for me.

For a bet I think we should see a better Bridgestone in R4. Running over a trip that he won well last prep. and fitter, should go close. Zidansky looks a threat. There are a couple of other hopes so the price might be ok for the toppie.

Hi schonegg.
Have you given up on London?

Hey Rogan, not in that field tomorrow. Trainer seems upbeat about its chances though so may have really come on from its first up run.

Gee, very short on fixed odds. Have to muck around with the multis.

Hat, no, didn't back London and lost on race, but well done and hopefully Rogan Josh backed it as well.
From the race, probably the kindest remark we can make of Dante's Volonte is 'will be better for the run'..and excellent win to London. Confirms Hay List as a topliner.

Jake, 2 winners 2 placings friom your tips, tops!

From other races, they're talking possible quick interstate trip to Melbourne for Bridgestone, with the VRC Derby the target.

For tomorrow, taking $1.7 fixed (UniTab) is madness, when we know little about the field. Much rather not have a bet and sit, relax and watch, and hope it wins :) Go the Blast!

In the end didn't have a bet in the race. Bummer dude!
My ew bet for the Sprinters Stakes - the 3-year-old filly Grand Prix Angel. Has some strong form & looks nicely weighted.

can he beat hay list after such a long lay-off?What a great clash looming. Last year Dark Target ran that incredible 31.93 sectional when winning by 6 lengths over tomorrow's course/distance. Nearly a year off and no trial, we have to trust Christine Stelmach that it's going well. In the run Hay List will probably kick up and lead from Dark Target.

Been tough for him, and he's ridden horses with chances(less than $10), but he broke through with a bolter yesterday at Sha Tin. His first in 39 rides.

For free info the Hong Kong website is great, lots of info and stats. Can see all his rides on video too.

Has 4 rides at Happy Valley on Wednesday though they don't look like winning chances, but here's hoping.
