Not a bad run by Bridgestone in the Norman Robinson at Caulfield on Saturday. Hard to see him turning the table on Shamoline Warrior in the Derby but should do ok the extra distance & at Flemmo.

Hard to see him turning the table on Shamoline Warrior in the DerbyAgree Rogan, Bridgestone was behind SW in the run but got a little flat footed when the pace went on. But if it gets out to silly odds in the Derby I'll still put something on him.
We'll see from the Vase on Satuday how strong the opposition to SW will be.

Yeah bad luck Sir Hallowell, schonegg, was looking a strong chance for the WA Guineas. Plans for Sydney (autumn) and possibly Brisbane (winter) are now in the pipeline. Meanwhile, David Harrison's other smart one, Waratah’s Secret, is said to be thriving & should resume racing shortly.
Huge wraps on Waratah's Secret following his win in the Belgravia last Saturday. Was most impressive, smashing the race record and going close to the track record. Only his 3rd start, and did it at both ends of the race as well. The current debate is just how much further (distance) he can go, with the Guineas just around the corner.

Once it led seemingly travelled well, but faded badly in the straight. Interestingly when being unsaddled there wasn't indication of a severe internal problem.
Only had 18 starts for 8 wins and 7 placings, was a fast sprinter and holds the fastest recorded 600m sectional in the state with 31.93.

From the Stewards :

DARK TARGET (P. Harvey) – After leaving the mounting enclosure following the race, the gelding collapsed on the track and expired. When questioned regarding the poor performance, rider explained that the gelding had been slow into stride, however mustered early pace and was able to lead unchallenged.
He further advised that the gelding was under pressure prior to straightening and tired from thereon. He also stated that the gelding felt normal in its action and behaviour prior to, during and when unsaddling the gelding.
Trainer Mrs C. Stelmach advised that the gelding had been working well in the lead-up to today’s race and was normal prior to the race. The Veterinary Surgeon advised that the gelding was found to have a cardiac arrhythmia on returning to the mounting enclosure and a preliminary veterinary examination disclosed that the gelding collapsed and expired due to a primary cardiac event.
The gelding was subsequently transported to Murdoch University where it will undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of this occurrence.

Very sad news schonegg and comes as a complete shock.

Read somewhere something similar happened to another lesser-performed steed recently, over there, was trained by Paul Jordan I think.

On a happier note nice eastern state debut by former sandgroper It'llbefantastic. Only a maiden today but did it pretty well.

The 1400m Fairetha Stakes is a stepping stone to the 1600m WA Guineas. Tomorrow the brilliant Waratah's Secret is a $1.4 shot to lead all the way. Don't understand why they've taken the blinkers off though. Distance should be ok, dam is by a Zabeel mare. Well worth watching this race for future notes.

The Asian Beau is a good race. I'm knocking Kasabian. On the up, in great form, but needs to step up again. I'll back Grand Nirvana-Elliotto. Colour Correct the favorite an obvious chance but may not get the same easy run as last couple starts.

Best race of the day is the last. Track record holder Danny Beau(9wins 14starts) returns after a long spell, went ok in a trial. Will it lead and keep out Vain Raider? Ma Ma Machine drawn 8 is the other big chance, going for 5 straight. Sparks to fly!

An ok field for this 200k race. Pace should be only average which suits the obvious two, Megatic and Idyllic Prince. Tip 3-1.
In R2 Moneghetti should settle a little closer than last time and win.

Another good performance by Idyllic Prince, schonegg. Just got there from Tarzi (top effort from that bloke imo). You might remember Tarzi was also runner-up last year, behind Marasco. Keytomoney not a bad run either. Megatic looked to have every chance. Your mate London pulled-up worse for wear.

hat, owner greed has stuffed up London. Instead of racing through the classes where he was eligible for Rating Bands less than 86 or so, they jumped him in open class. He won in at first attempt. Great. But his Handicapper Rating then jumped about 20 points, making him ineligible to race in those 40-50k (R86 or less) races for a while. Even worse, after yesterdays poor run the Rating won't drop

Gee! my post just dissappreaed so here is the final try: I notice that you blokes on this thread are way ahead of my thoughts but, I am here in WA and I notice certain things so here we go:

I notice that whenever "Darren Macauley" ignores an obvious chance .....say like "Highest Honour" today (his radio tips not in first 4 HUH!)

Then very often it is the winner......... makes you think!

hey party, agree with ya, maybe he doesn't study form. I think he has the best voice in Australia, but his accuracy and reading of the race is often disappointing, and calling a photo finish correctly has been his achiiles heel.

Many examples, but one just yesterday. Not sure if you saw/heard r2 won by Scary Movie. He concentrated on Bizet winning the race up until a few strides before the line, when he suddenly mentioned the 2 horses which were stalking the leaders throughout and were real chances for most of the straight.

Anyway the carnival is hotting up on Saturday, will check in with a few tips before then.

G'day schonegg, yes I agree with all that you say here, in fact I have been on the recieving end of a falsly called winner that was 2nd..... grrrr most annoying, but my main concern that the example that I sited is NOT alone I've noticed it many times, and like,........ R1 - Tricky race, maybe Trustee Brown eachway. Raced forward at first start, some speedsters drawn inside it though.

R2 - Kim Trader at 3.1 is too short, have a break.

R3 - Too many queries. For Trifectas/First4s include Xaar Boom.

R4 - Early speed drawn in and out suits the stalkers Shock Value/Moonlight Drive.

R5 - Unbeaten Hay List going for 9 straight, and finds extra when challenged, but even factoring in improvement my odds are about 3.25 whereas fixed 1.75, pass, but hope it wins. Dante's Volonte reportedly back to near best, and loves Ascot. Revolition is a must lead type, so early pace will be interesting. Apparently screws tightened on Ma Ma Machine after last start's below par effort.

R6 - Grand Nirvana has been disappointing and drawn awkwardly, but blinkers on today, last chance. Elliotto a distance risk, but powered home at 1400m last start.

R7(WA Guineas) - The Corporation will get gun run, by Helenus so 1600m is perfect. Thorn Dancer has been backed for a stack now into 4.1, but will get back and could be wide for most of the race, and very wide home turn.

R8 - Golden Business eachway should give great sight. Almohad is promising but odds 3.0 is too short.

Good Railway, and a coup to get the Emirates winner. Hayes has been a good supporter of Perth Racing.

Nice summation schonegg. Without any noted front runners a good possi early looks the go. Gold Salute & All American have both drawn well & come into the race via the strong form of the Emirate Stakes having been split by Cox Plate winner So You Think. Also drawn well (& in form) Tarzi & Elliotto. Another drawn well & capable, Famous Roman.

Great days racing on a perfect surface that wasn't too hard. Apparently instructions to Rawiller on Sniper's Bullet was 'go for home at the 600m' and thats exactly what he did. Of the others Lords Ransom is bang on target for the 2400m Perth Cup.

Yeah well deserved win to Sniper’s Bullet after running 2nd to Gilded Venom in last year’s race. Makes you wonder (again) what Gilded Venom might have gone on to do, had he not been put-down earlier this year.

And agree schonegg, top effort Lords Ransom. Adam Durrant must be really looking forward to the Cup, another of his, Ma Chienne, was pretty impressive as well on Saturday.

In the Winterbottom, they'll all be hoping Waratah's Secret stops over the last 100m. That'll depend on any early pressure but Revoltion and Kid Choisir will probably not create any problems. Tips:

R2 Awesome Force is ok odds at $5. Settle just off them early.
R5 Great Destiny is fitter and should go close. Doyoudare for multiples.
R7 the Aquanita Stakes, big early backing has for Ranger. I reckon God Has Spoken eachway should hit the board.

Ah yes, the forum egg :)

R3 the St.Leger is disappointing in numbers. All are having their first go at the distance, and a couple have had some hard recent racing. Tipping Thorn Dancer to reel in the leader.

R4 Almohad is suited and ready to win. Party's tip Zuboyne ran a cracker last time.

R5 Laying Watson's Bay at $6.5, should find this tougher than recent wins.

R6 the A J Scahill Stakes is a real lottery. Pro Art should lead, favorite Black In Time will be last early. For a place bet, Grand Nirvana may settle behind the leader, and has every chance to run in the first 3.

Good luck!

BUT my observation is (AGAIN) that Darren MCauley didn't rate it in his first 4, unbelievable; and once again it wins, just watch out for this , it sure seems that when it's a goer it's nowhere in his top 4 (nods as good as a wink ey?)

Promises to be a good card of racing at Ascot.

R2 - The Market Mover is Keshaar. IAS have it 3.8 -> 2.9, meets Trustee Brown 3.5kg better than last time(both were a tad unlucky to not finish closer).

R4 - One of the best bets anywhere is Inarticulate. It really should go crunch. $2 fixed is short enough, add 6/9 for value in multiples.

R5 - Another shortie in Scenic Shot. Bar 2 is perfect, distance and race conditions perfect, no excuses this time. Worth watching a few others in respect to upcoming Perth Cup.

R7 - Crawford Stakes is very interesting. Leader Vain Raider. Topweight Vizard is the big query. No Trial so no idea where it's at, but was a budding superstar sprinter over a year ago. Ma Ma Machine has never won at Ascot, but has a good chance to break the duck. Should get into a good trailing position.

Good luck!

Lords Ransom should win the cup easily based on that run.
Will be deserved favorite, good powerful finish today.

Party, yes, Durrant is a top trainer and a big-race trainer who has made his mark, especially during the carnival.(Jim Taylor been a little quiet).
But that Scenic Shot was not the Melbourne/Brisbane version. It's a classier horse than the winner. Easy to say now but it surely is a tired horse and needs a big open paddock tomorrow. Brown had to ride it hard out of the barrier to keep its place, then got shuffled back. No zip in its finish.

One to follow is another Durrant runner :) Golden Heart, from the last race. Was first up and had to work hard 3/4 wide, and expect it to hit back very soon.

Scenic Shot has gone for a spell. Lords Ransom who won the Cox Stakes in convincing fashion has incurred a 1kg penalty (Perth Cup) for the win.

Gee, it's hard to go past Lords Ransom isn't it? but NewSpice at it's best?? (not to mention Gondorf.) anyway there's my tri! + the PPM sel. boxed.

But remember if backing more than 1 horse for the win Sportsbet have a money back deal if your nag runs 2nd,...... by the way I have no business connections with Sportsbet.

In fact there is a new player who offers Best Tote or SP for the win AND also Best Tote/SP for the place, in other words best Tote place divi OR 1/4 SP whichever is greatest, if you're a serious place bettor you have to take it. eg. totes = $1.50c, $1.40c & $1.30c, nag runs a place @ SP $4 so the place divi is $1.75c

Not sure if I can post the name of the new outfit? ...... Moderator?

Think you're right Party. A website tracking media tipsters has him with strike rate of 20% and POT -22% (since 6 July and not tipping every race).

Problem is Schonegg (is that shone GG, or schon egg??) that they can make the figuressay anything eg: the 20% S/R could be overall i.e. 4 selections per race or it could be only the top sel. I personally take the top 2.

Also my figures go back to 2003, WA meetings only, and as I said hes been a bit lean recently.

Also the LOT is probably at single tote, whereas BEST TOTE/SP would probably improve that as much as 10%, and bet fair probably close to break even.

Personally I improve the figures again by always betting @ Top Fluc when any selection is quoted @ $4 or less (pre post WA TAB-FORM)

PS can you post that link to the tracking mob please?

They probably should try again with Lords Ransom. Some of the Provincial Cups or a Listed in town could be targets next spring in Melbourne.

Ma Chienne really blossomed, and was up since August. Next prep could see her best, still fairly lightly raced for a 5 year old. Be very interesting what path they choose for her. Best distance could be around 2000m.

R2) Xaardavid is backable at 3.3 and the claim helps. Bizet(probable leader) a danger.

R3) Mekong Miss to lead from King Kool Kat. MM has been well backed but 1.9 looking too skinny now. Spirited One freshened up and in weakest field its been in for a while would win this at best. Brava Fortune back to shorter distance and drawn well is worth throwing in multiples.

R4) Glen Erin Lad at 5.25 is ok and should be thereabouts, so should Follow the Road. The favorite Almighty Runner might not lead like last time but is very promising so can't knock it.

R5) Lay Stratazoa at 6.5, can't have it. The hot favorite Ma Ma Machine was outstanding last week, and the only niggling concern is all wins have been over 1000m.

R6) An ordinary stayers race, AirForce at 4.2 could be the one. Probably won't lead this time(Esroh should) and will try to replicate its win over the c/d 2 starts ago.

R7) It seems Golden Heart will race closer than last time(settled last and whooshed home) so from barrier 8 will need just a dash of luck to get cover. Should win. Delta Bay for multiples.

From South China Morning Post....

William Pike yesterday landed his biggest win in Hong Kong - the Group Three Bauhinia Sprint Trophy (1,000m) on Craig's Dragon for trainer John Moore, but will not seek to extend his licence at the end of the month and will return home to Perth to prepare for the arrival of his first child.

Pike will exchange finding his feet in one of the most competitive and lucrative riding environments, for the pitter-patter of tiny feet back home - and he is confident he is making the right decision.

"It is making it a bit harder to leave now that I'm finally riding some winners, but at the same time I am leaving Hong Kong in good stead and I can't see why I won't be able to come back at some stage in the future," Pike said.

"The best thing for me to do personally at the moment is to head home to Perth, and I might even be able to peg back a few of the boys at home and ride some winners there."

That is the understatement of the year so far, with Pike being a big fish in a small pond at home in the Western Australian capital where he has won the past two jockey premierships - last season's by an impressive 34 winners.

Pike had struggled to ride many winners until early December last year, but has chalked up 11 for the season and claimed his first Group win at Sha Tin.

R2 Lay The Entourage at 5.5, may not lead or could work a little too much.

R3 Best backed has been Barometric(6.5 -> 4.8). I'll Lay McScar at 4.8, meets Significant much better than last time but bar 10 a problem.

R5 Golden Heart should sit off them and sprint too well.

R7 is a good 1000m sprint. Darntime is fast early and should lead. Nollamara could settle right behind it. Early money has been Icy Maiden (6.5 -> 5.5), tip 7-2

R8 Several unknowns and with a big field there will be traffic problems. Verscene won well over the c/d 2 starts ago and should've finished closer last time. But there are other good chances.

Hi jake. Paul Harvey was due back a week or so ago but was injured in a track accident. Might still be another 5-6 weeks before he can ride again, scans on his left leg revealed a fractured tibula and partial tear to a medial ligament.

R2) Best backed early Sacred Crown 4.4 -> 3.6 in a tricky race. Possibly Avante can swoop home late.

R3) Best backed Highest Honour 5.5 -> 3.8 in a race of speedy types. Classofherown had a gun run last time(1st up) and did nothing. Back to better suited 1000m, will be near last early, can finish over the top in a race of chances.

R5) Don't like Taharka so a Lay.

R6) a Listed 3YO race with a couple of Derby hopefuls. No tip. Pike on Morant is the hot favorite and the distance looks to suit. Trainer Jim Taylor has a big opinion of Dampier Dayz, might attempt to lead.

R8) Jockey Whiting had a choice between Tudor Lad and Moccassin Bend and chose the later, even though the former(with Pike) is the favorite. Best tip is to include non-winner Hide the Loot in all multiples, will get back and run on late.

R3) Saytorio was green at its first start, should settle midfield and appreciate the 1200m. Should win. Lay Cheval Roi.

R4) Galaxy Queen going for 4 straight wins. This is slightly stronger race and up to 56kg. Go for quinella with stablemate My Becks.

R6) leader - Hawkeye Mort. Best backed Truckin Tobie. Don't like Calico Blue so a Lay.

R4 - Don't like Haste, so a Lay.

R5 - leader Legend Express. In a tricky race, Never Forgotten eachway if it gets out to around $7. Will get back and run on. Euclassy Thing in multiples.

R7 - is the TJ Smith Trophy. Zentrate eachway shouldn't miss, as it will get a gun run. It also beat Le Plunge last prep. over this distance, and that horse bolted in last week. Morant is obvious danger, was wide throughout last time and still won. Ranger was pathetic firstup but had very good form last prep. If it gets to near $10 worth a buck or two. R1 - leader Lie In Wait should be unchallenged and that could be the race. Admiring needs more pace on, unless it goes forward early(possible). Tip 1 - 4. Lay 2.

R2 - tricky stayers race. Calico Blue was 3 wide without a trail last time and finished well. Goldtown runs on strongly when in the mood. Tips 2 / 6. Lay 4.

R5 - leader Stratazoa - La Forza - Shock Value. London(easy Trial win) has a bad draw so with luck could end up 3 wide with cover. Tipping Shock Value to pinch a break from Escadaire(good Trial) with London running on well. Tip 10 - 1/3. Lay 5.

R6 - leader Comic Hero - Spitfire Lad. Marasco resuming from nearly 290 day spell and without a Trial, but there aren't any standout challengers in this. Fred Kersley having a bad run, his last Ascot winner was in January. The WFA conditions help Tarzi turn around the Bunbury form with a couple of the others. Tip 1 - 2. Lay 6.

R5) Open race and some tipsters going for Trafalgar Square. But I'm backing eachway Hoodlum Gang and Vainito.

R7) Roberts Stakes is for 3 year olds heading towards the Derby. Leaders....Yabigorse - Impressive Jeuney. Looks to better suit God Has Spoken which should position closer in the run than Bridgestone and For Your Eyes Only. The leaders are dangerous as well. It's a very good race.

Absolutely RJ, the bookies given a freebie in this case, but it should be 'protect the punter' instead, and stewards should give a heavy penalty to the jockey. Also feel for the owners and trainer, they'd be gutted!

R2 - Tips 1-4/6/7. Late Night Flight to lead from Legend Express, Saffron Fire. Late Night Flight's best chance to finally win one, hoping to not cop much pressure early. Lexicon Gold will get a cosy run on the rails and is a danger. Lay Vain Strike. It's promising but it'll need to come from near the rear and wide.

R5 - Marasco 1st , Tarzi 2nd, DoYouDare 3rd. Lay Tarzi.

R6 - Tips 6/10-1. Leaders...Impressive Jeuney, Tropical Fury, Le Plunge, and possibly Liberty Street. The distance 2200m is unknown for all so there could be a big improvement from one or more of these fillies. Going for One Cool Queen and Test Case.

R7 - Tips 1/12-5. Lots of speed to suit those running on. O'Donnell has stuck with London, and it might be in a good spot mid-race, 3 wide with a trail. Shock Value to get a perfect run from the rails and will just need luck finding the gaps. Colour Correct has a brilliant finish and might track London until the turn. Good race.

R1 - tips 5-2/4. Stratazoa and Comic Hero to fight for the lead. Shock Value's first attempt at 1400m but he should get a gun run from Brown and then hope the gaps open up, unlike last week. Comic Hero on old form as a loose leader would be dangerous.

R3 - tips 1-2. leaders Legend Express/Acute Brute/Hawkeye Mort. Doyoudare will get a sit behind the speed, unlike last week when led a very slow pace and battled the placings with Tarzi. Apprentice Yuill rides ok. Lay Money Exchange.

R4 - roughie 7 in Exotics. leaders Destino/Kim Currency and possibly Moccasin Bend to go forward. The two favorites(5&6) have limitations and a couple of others with queries, so at a good price($21) Demands Attention is worth putting in Exotics. Prefers Belmont, but at 3rd run from spell can figure in the placings.

R5 - tips 1-8. leaders Romida-Zed Magic-Wizards Point. If Sacred Crown(apprentice Damian Lane replaces injured Noske) can find a good spot early then it'll finish fast.
The form line of Valoura received a dent during the week when Peach Tree was a disappointing 3rd but it is still untapped(wide last time as Jake pointed out) and a definite chance with Pike aboard. Don'trocktheboat is the query runner. Lay Fromm.

R6 - tip 1. No depth in the Melvista. Heavy backing for Brother Mak which meets God Has Spoken 3.5kg better for a 1.5 lengths defeat from their last start. By Zabeel the 2200m might be what it needs as well. But I'm sticking with the toppie as he's classy and the distance should also suit. Zentrate has been disappointing but from barrier 1(again) could sneak a place.

12 Miss Gai Flyer - has been best backed, good win Moonee Valley when swooped on them near the turn and ran away. Might be too good for the locals but the trip across and settling in new environment are queries

8 Miss Condition - keeps winning with something in hand, will be wide with cover

7 Cristiano - big raps on this before disappointing 2nd when first up in a midweeker, could be the surprise packet

1 Riosand - travelled easily the whole way when winning last start, bad draw with blinkers are the queries

Oaks

2 Impressive Jeuney - will lead and set a fair pace and be very hard to pass

1 For Your Eyes Only - Last October led and beat Kid Choisir over 1000m, now lines up in the 2400m Oaks! In great form, though not bred for this trip so probably needs a slow pace to help her acceleration

Impressive Jeuney very impressive on Saturday. Will she backup in next Saturday's Group I WA Derby? Connections still undecided.

There will be betting chaos if she doesn't start. The trainer said he'll pay the acceptance with her but won't decide until Saturday morning if she races.

It's understandable he's looking after her, but if he scratches her on race morning those that took the fixed odds etc. on any runner will be short changed by deductions etc. and the race makeup totally changes complexion.

my tip, just sit back and watch the race, OR if you must; back the ppm SEL.
OR THE 3RD LETTER "r"

OR JUST BACK NO 1 FOR A PLACE!! HEE HEE !

SEE HOW WE GO?

:) Party...doesn't look a great race(tricky actually) so sitting it out might be best anyway.

If she recovers ok from her Oaks run I'd be running her in the Derby. From memory Oaks winners do pretty well whenever they backup. Most recent runs by the Parnham pair were below expectation. Last start winner Brother Mak should relish the extra distance. The David Hayes-trained Chartreux did well when runner-up behind the promising staying Rundle last time out Flemington.

According to the press trainer Darren McAuliffe has declared Impressive Jeuney a certain starter!

It's a tricky race and any of the main chances can win.

Top chances
----------------------

2 Bridgestone - early favorite a month ago that easily beat some of these 2 starts ago before last start had a pre-race stone bruise so raced with pads, loomed up to them at the 200m mark but peaked(with 58kg). That was probably forgiveable and the positives here are back to 3yo class at the set weights, barrier 4, has the strongest finish, and this race has been the target all along.

5 Brother Mak - Heavily backed last time and after travelling under a throttle hold found the gaps and won well. Meets God Has Spoken much worse at the weights but is getting better as the distances are getting longer.

Others
----------------------

1 God Has Spoken - handled the home turn horribly last start and then finished off ok. Barrier 3 will help as it will get a soft run midfield near the rails and then Parnham will need to find the gaps.

13 Impressive Jeuney - Powered clear from the fillies last week in the Oaks, sure to lead from stablemate Four Floors/Smart Twister, and gets the 2kg advantage. Beaten on its merits against Bridgestone 3 starts ago but going much better now since leading(didn't lead that day).

3 Chartreux - At its last 2 runs it kept going strongly to the line, is very consistent and from barrier 1 has to be at least a Trifecta chance.

Chartreux looked very good winning on Saturday guys. Nice debuts both Scenic Park & Delianuova imo.
