Champion galloper Northerly has died after a colic attack in his retirement paddock at Busselton. He was 15.

The gelding, who is recognised as WA's greatest racehorse, earned stakes totalling $9.3 million.

He won two Cox Plates, two Australian Cups and a Caulfield Cup for trainer Fred Kersley from 2001-03.

In 2003 he was crowned Australian Horse Of The Year and was later elected to the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame.

WA Pacing legend Village Kid also passed away recently, age 31.
He won 93 races and ran 36 places in a 160-start career, earning prize money totalling $2,117,870.
He won the 1986 Brisbane Inter Dominion Championship, four WA Pacing Cups and two Miracle Miles in Sydney.
He won at 19 consecutive starts in 1987-88. He was twice Australian pacer of the Year.
A true Champion!

MyHatMyCoat

Was the longest December heatwave in 70 years, Sands :(

On a different note, how about what happened at Pinjarra on Sunday. Judge incorrectly gave Redwood Rose second place ahead of Light ‘N’ Easy in race one. The result later overturned, correctly giving connections of Light ‘N’ Easy second place prizemoney & Redwood Rose third place prizemoney.

But the rules state that the dividends cannot be changed after correct weight, so those that had Light ‘N’ Easy in bets on the quinella, exacta, trifecta or first four, were left out of pocket.
