Thought of this thread when doing the form for the KALANGADOO CUP over 1700m at Penola today.
The thread omen tip would have to be IRISH JESTER.! :)
Not without a genuine chance if he can run out the 1700.
And I think I’ve got the topical tri for the same race. IRISH JESTER (of course) with BEEN LAUGHING and YOU'RE JOKING :D
BEEN LAUGHING doesn’t look too well weighted but is capable of filling a place. And YOU'RE JOKING at his 3rd start back after a spell would almost be a special on best form so anywhere near that would make him very competitive today.
Personally I’m expecting Clare Lindop’s mount SUPER BOOM to be the one to beat. Not far away all 3 runs since a spell and will appreciate the step up in distance of todays race.

Even better performance to win yesterday proxy! Perth Cup bound I believe now.
Yeh now three straight! :D
Not sure about the 3200m though, I think My Thornbird hasn't gone further than 2300m?

I was most impressed with the performance of Scenic Shot to win yesterday. This fellow is undefeated since they added blinkers and I reckon bigger things are in store for the son of Scenic (IRE).
Watched that race was sure Hi On Love was going on for an easy win then out of nowhere comes Scenic Shot! Agree was most impressive.

Drawn the outside fence in the Winterbottom Stakes tomorrow so huge test for the 4YO gelding. With Ellicorsam in the field (race record holder) might have to break that record to win
Wide barrier and slow start beat this gelding last start, made amends big time yesterday breaking the race record!! :)

Railway Stakes winner Hardrada has retired.
Costing the owner just $30,000 Hardrada’s wins include the NJ Way, the Crystal Slipper, the Sires Produce, Winterbottom no. 1, the Lee Steere, Winterbottom no. 2 and 2003 Railway Stakes. Also placed in the 2002 Railway Stakes, 2003 Hannans Handicap and 2003 Fruit n Veg Stakes.
I think connections might have finished just a bit in front :D

From an article on the web, interesting read:
Bomber Bill's win yesterday was his 22nd victory from 86 starts and the first for new trainer Maureen Harry who was celebrating her first stakes success as a trainer. Harry is Bomber Bill’s fifth trainer having started life off with Hec McLaren in WA who purchased the gelding for $31,000 on behalf of owner Vic Schlesniack at the 1997 Willaim Inglis Classic Yearling sale in Sydney.
The Kevin Heffernan Stakes was the 16th stakes success for Bomber Bill whose earnings stand at over $1.8 million. He has raced in every state of Australia, with the exception of Tasmania, been to Dubai and Hong Kong, and won three Gr 1 races, the first, WATC Karrakatta Plate, in 1998, the second, MVRC Australia Stakes, in 2001, and the third, SAJC Goodwood Handicap, in 2003.
Amazing old fellow!! Real gutsy win!!

The Ted Martinovih trained Laetare who finished 4th in both the last Perth and Adelaide Cups has strained ligaments in his lower off foreleg and has been ruled out of the Summer Carnival.
A big blow for connections after Laetare's last start strong performance in the York Stakes behind Danny Blue.
Expected to be out of action for at least 9 months.

On the subject of irish-related named horses have a strong liking for the Mayfield-Smith trained (6) Irish Crusader in the listed Bendigo Cup tomorrow. Should now be fighting fit with a handful of starts since spell. Not beaten all that far last start Moonee Valley over 2500m. Handles all track conditions but does seem to do best with the sting out of the ground. Looks a nice EW chance. (1) Tosen Dandy and (13) Soi Cowboy look the main dangers. My outsider (10) Garidar
Hey shaun! Irish Crusader's backing up in the Ballarat Cup on Wednesday. Do you think he can improve on his Bendigo Cup run (a respectable 4th)? And do you by chance have another nice roughie for us to put a little on? :)

IRISH CRUSADER is too inconsistent for me to put into my top selections but will include him for 3rd. My roughie EW is REPUBLIC purely on old form, recent form sucks! My top two are TRUE COURSER who won the Bendigo Cup (although tread with caution if the track is worse than dead) and COMMAND 'N CONQUER who ran a solid 4th two starts back in the Geelong Cup behind Melbourne Cup placegetter On A Jeune.

This mornings West Australian reports that Plastered's managing-owner Janelle Harvey has revealed that Plastered is set for a radical operation to fix a serious respiratory problem.
Action in progress to send Plastered to a Victorian vet for surgery on his degenerating "lazy larynx". Ballarat specialist Ian Fulton will perform the surgery to reconstruct the larynx using nerves from other muscles.
A simpler operation could have been performed in Perth but was likely to have limited the horse's potential at his pet longer distances.
The surgery is likely to keep Plastered out of racing for at least a year.
The worst case scenario is that the 2004 Victoria Derby winner's career is over after nine wins in 15 starts and stake earnings of $1.55 million.

My top two are TRUE COURSER who won the Bendigo Cup (although tread with caution if the track is worse than dead) and COMMAND 'N CONQUER who ran a solid 4th two starts back in the Geelong Cup behind Melbourne Cup placegetter On A Jeune.

Ian Fulton has a very good reputation if anyone can get Plastered's problem sorted out he will. Plastered's still a youngster let's hope we see the start of his most successful campaign in 12 months time!

I think there’s been just two alternatives since Plastered’s condition got worse – retire or fix the problem. If the operation’s not life threatening then it would make sense to go that way.

Race 6 tomorrow at Pinjarra looks a good betting race.
Stone Man will ensure a fast pace, the 1000m will be right up his alley if left alone in front. Cold Beer undefeated this prep and looks a nice type. West Riva Ika is resuming from a long spell but has gone well 'fresh' previously. Noble Pak been freshened and has the services of the pontiff. And there's Wild Frankie who is reported to have lots of ability but is still to show this on the track. And finally Capital Punishment and Miss Pavlinovich who both have their share of ability.
In a hard race going for Cold Beer just, from Stone Man, Noble Pak and Capital Punishment.

Read that a smaller operation (tie back the larynx) hasn't been completely ruled out and if they go down that path Plastered may only be missing around 6 months.

Siesta Park looks a shoe-in the penultimate. Probably start in the red. Might be worth anchoring with in the novelties.
As you predicted WayOutWest won with plenty in reserve. Good price the 2nd horse so multis OK.

Well on paper she does face a challenging task! 5.5gk over the limit and stepping up in distance.
In her favour the claim for young Jessica who does do well on front running types. Hopefully a reasonable price can be got.

In the first at Ascot tomorrow like (10) Solway Lass. Last start win at Ascot first class and comes into this race on the limit. Fitter for her last run and smallish field will help as she’s sure to settle at the rear and work home with a wet sail.

Well on paper she does face a challenging task! 5.5gk over the limit and stepping up in distance.
In her favour the claim for young Jessica who does do well on front running types. Hopefully a reasonable price can be got.
Big time or back to the bush for Blessed Sue depending on how she goes tomorrow. I'm really hoping she measures up!

Thanks for the tip proxy.
No doubles tomorrow, pretty compeitive fields. I thought Gold Service was truly the red hot special of the day, he is short but very sweet. We are here to try to pick winners whether they are short or long.
I think then...
PR6 Number 7 Salisbury Street 3:20pm
The street looks good, should be fitter from his first up effort, has been placed during a second up effort before. With Gold Service out it seems this race is now wide open. Salisbury Street has alot of excuses last start, and only finished 4 off them at the end. With a touch more luck this time around I expect it to be fighting out the finish here.

The Lee Freedman trained STORM ALERT although winless in seven starts this spring is bursting to win a race and this is her chance. Outstanding effort at her last start in the Matriarch, handles any track type, has a nice draw and looks well placed on the limit. The G1 Oaks placegetter is WA bred by Metal Storm. Metal Storm could have a big day today with a number of runners at Ascot including AVENIDA MADERO, COVERTLY, METALDALE and MY LEO.
SHOW BARRY the main danger also looks ideally placed today. Also handles all track conditions and since progressing to middle distance has gone extremely well. Likes the track and has the services of top heavyweight jock Mark Flaherty. Drawn the fence so should get a soft run for most of the journey.
The John Hawke’s trained BREAK THE VAULT does look promising. Looked a bit unlucky on Cup day where he finished 2nd to the in form Zipping. He didn't appear to have a lot of luck getting a clear run in the sprint home. Looks the type who needs plenty of galloping room so Sandown should suit today. The extra distance of today’s race should also be right up his alley.
WILD CLASSIC a winner this track doesn’t win many but has a solid place strike rate. Prefers the sting out of the ground but ok good. None fitter and his last start effort at WFA was by far his best for a long time. Could add a bit of value to your novelties.

MANJAR has the form on the board a good draw and your top rider, the logical top pick.
Watched (SKY) SCENIC SHOT winning his last start came from nowhere very impressive extra distance must suit.
SNACKING the best of the girls impressive same day as Manjar drops in weight and nice draw.
FOR SHAME (value) looks a derby type charging home late in the Fairetha behind Manjar after a bit of early trouble 1600 will suit.

COVERTLY back in form and nice draw.
LUST FOR DUST has wins over both Miss Andretti and Covertly. Third run back should be primed.
