Of your selections I particularly like Trib today ;) Don’t know why ?! :)Probably cause it'll be the first one back to the barn as it's scratched hahaha.

I'll have to look for a sub now.

Edit:

I'm going for some vaue in Monaco Star. Last start maiden winner, defeated two horses in this field. The horse form says (Ayefel) "Should give good account" (Seafaring Lad) "Not without claims on last run", that sounds promising when Monaco Star actually beat them both. Hope the form guide stands up.

Race Nine (CR9) 5:27pm
Win: Number 4 Monaco Star

A couple of interesting gallopers lining up in the last trial heat at Belmont today – This’Ll Be The Day and Tantra Dancer.

Former eastern states gelding This’Ll Be The Day has raced 10 times in WA for 3 wins 3 places. Has a pretty good win strike rate of 7 wins from 29 starts. Last raced July 05.

Versatile mare Tantra Dancer hasn’t raced since early September 05 and boasts an extremely good strike rate of 5x1st 6x2nd 2x3rd 2x4th from just 16 starts.

Thanks SunsetCoast ;)
Just looking at the trial results on the WATURF website and This’Ll Be The Day was beaten 7.5lens  thought he would have performed better than that! Looking at the other trial a few maidens looked to have performed well on paper and might be worth watching next couple starts. Stormy Harbour, Oceanic Storm and Lady Thunderbolt. All have reasonable previous race form, Lady Thunderbolt trialled with the addition of blinkers.

I normally use the form published on the WATURF CLUB website AdrianLee ;) You can also get other state form from various websites for the gallops, trotters and doggies so hardly ever use the TABForm anymore.

You can easily access WA horse race form from the time first nominations are published. Final field racebook style formguide (PDF) is normally downloadable / viewable a couple of days before raceday.

Will be on Collins Street again this year (along with the lovely Alana). If we get beat I hope like crazy it's not THAT horse again!!

Collins Street desperately unlucky in the cup, held up a couple of times over the last 600 behind tiring runners. Outside the run of the gutsy Tapdog, was the run of the race to flood at end to finish 4th!

Looked to me that the jock was trying to get a break on the others when he took off. I think the extra fast pace early and (agree) lack of race fitness made the difference in the end. Still a great effort in defeat as you've stated.

The sprint at Barker looks pretty competitive westman - in addition to Paris Raider (which I like as well) you've got (just to name a few) Great Beau showing form again, Zoloto who normally goes well fresh, recent multiple city winner Hes Smokin and the underrated Truck Talk. Should be a goodie!!

It’s been reported believe or not that True Steel will head east after the upcoming Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups to take up jumps career.

The winner of the 2003 Group 1 Fruit N Veg has impressed all and sundry in recent jump trials and connections believe he’s a natural jumper.

Victoria trainer Robbie Laing will look after True Steel throughout his new jumps career.

Mt Barker today...

Race 1 former Victorian mare Kool Thing very disappointing last start at Bunbury. Drops back in distance today but hard to get enthused on what she’s done in WA thus far.

Race 2 Saratoga Power didn’t flatter at his WA debut however should be fitter for that hit-out and the extra distance of today’s race should suit. The former south aussie also races in blinkers for the first time.

Race 6 He’s Smokin’ has done us proud since first mention on this thread. Steps up to 1200 for the first time since venturing west but has won and been placed over 1200/1300 in NSW previously.

Race 7 former banana-bender Grove Hill has now had 3 starts in the west following a 12 months spell. Should be nearing peak fitness and drops in class today on his last run at Albany.

Following up on a recent post with regards to what looks on paper to be harsh handicapping.

Spirited Gem is a regular inclusion in my WA stable. Last start carried 56.5kg (no claim) race min. 53.5kg winning at Ascot last Saturday. Nominated for this Saturday and has been allotted 58.5kg race min. 53kg. That's in reality a penalty of 2.5kg!!! All I can add is WHAT-THE??!!!!

Sat 20 Jan 2006 R8 #3 Coleridge. As I post this at lunchtime Friday, there are two important things that need to happen so that this one becomes a bet. 1. Fast/good track rating only, and 2. There needs to be at least another scratching to bring him into gate 10 or under. He returned a nice 103 second up and his class4 win at Bunbury first up over 1400m tells us that he has some good fitness in his legs. He should improve again. Back to the 1400m again today I expect him to go forward and prove hard to run down. Danger is #8 Real Halo.

good punting!
Aaron.

Lyrical Queen has always had above average ability and with blinkers added we saw the real Lyrical Queen yesterday. Stablemate Sir Chalmers also raced in blinkers first time yesterday. Didn't win as easily as Lyrical Queen but was almost as impressive lumping 58.5kg and coming from well back in the field.

Ascot today...

In race 2 today Trousers lines up for his 4th start in WA. Has won races in SA, Vic, NSW and WA (Pinjarra 2 starts back). His last start effort at Ascot was a solid run and he will appreciate the extra 200m of today’s race.

In the lucky last we have 2 starters – Coleridge and Promoted. Coleridge has had 2 starts since heading west from NSW, both have been excellent runs. Fitter for his last start 2nd behind William’s Steal and looks to have a top chance today. Former banana-bender Promoted will strip fitter for his 2 WA starts – both runs OK and from a good barrier looks a genuine EW chance today.

Bunbury yesterday…

Race 5 yesterday Escondijo got up at juicy odds paying (unitab) $40.80 win $7.90 place! The 4YO mare and former NSW galloper had previously raced twice (unimpressive) and trialled twice (ok runs) in WA but the important factor yesterday was the removal of blinkers – this type of gear change (along with wearing blinkers first time) is always worth a serious watch (imo) when it occurs.

Race 9 saw the return to the west of Captain Woodrow. Starting fav just got up to win (shd). The WA bred son of Metal Storm last campaigned in Victoria where his best result was a 2nd at Moonee Valley in October last year.

blinkers removed..now that's a switch!! normally pay close attention when blinkers go on 1st time..especially if I'm able to verify trialled or worked well with that gear change...can't recall blinkers off too many times..I'll have to pay more attention...cheers!

The most impressive trial winner at Lark Hill yesterday was the unbeaten 3YO colt Desiarnez.

The Neville Parnham trained galloper won easily in the 2nd fastest time of the day. Has had just the one official race start winning easily over 1000M at Belmont last October.

The fastest heat winner of the day was the handy country class mare Twin City Girl. She normally races well fresh so watch for her return.

Of the other heats unraced 2YO filly Sprintess and the unraced Fimiston stallion Reign Of Fire were both impressive.

Pinjarra tomorrow…

Race 4 Trousers lines up for his 4th start in WA. Has won races in SA, Vic, NSW and WA (Pinjarra 2 starts back) and his last start effort at Ascot was a solid run. Further improvement expected. Same race Tex Tycoon. Previously raced in both Vic and NSW. Two starts in WA both very good. Blinkers and Pacifiers go on tomorrow. Again same race Stay Seated formerly from NSW this 5YO gelding has now had two starts 2nd campaign in WA. First time around raced without much success in WA’s north. Blinkers on tomorrow.

Race 5 former Vic galloper Beta Plus resumes for his 2nd WA campaign. Previous 3 starts in WA reasonable runs, best form over more ground but does have a reasonable first-up record. Same race Bold Revenge has now had 4 starts in WA since coming west. Drops in class on previous starts in WA and could easily improve. And same race Wind Storm resumes for a 2nd campaign in the west. Has won in both Vic and NSW and did manage a couple of placings at Belmont 1st campaign. Best form over further ground but does have a good first-up record. And again same race again the lightly raced 3YO filly Beleura resumes. All but one previous start in Vic with her last start at Randwick. Very good first-up record and has blinkers added tomorrow. Looks a top chance.

Race 6 sees the WA debut for the NZ bred Brilliant Mak. At only race start (last September) won a 1600M maiden over 1600M in NZ. Did not impress in a WA trial earlier this month but trained by the astute Wally Mitchell and has a 3kg apprentice claim.

Miss Andretti will fly out of Perth next Tuesday to commence a campaign in the east.

The Ihtiram mare will be stabled in Kilmore, where she will have a rural atmosphere similar to her home in Cookernup WA.

The Fighting Tigress, a winner of $330K in stakes has so far recorded 9 wins from 13 starts. She will start in the $350K Oakleigh Plate over 1100m at Caulfield on February 25. Nice way to double your prize money!! :)

My on top tip is (2) SPARK OF LIFE great record this track and distance and handles any going. Next best little between (7) CALIFORNIA DANE and (8) VIRAGE DE FORTUNE both 3YO’s are unbeaten this track / distance. Old (1) BOMBER BILL won’t be far away and is shooting for a hat-trick – Go Bomber! Also include (3) VALEDICTUM goes well fresh and has a great win / place strike rate.

In the penultimate tomorrow at Bunbury I’m expecting (4) Stitching to win her first race in WA. Backed for a stack last start over 1200M class 1 this track not beaten far will strip fitter and 1400M should suit her better. As the anchor in the multiples with 3,2,1&6.

Sprintess set for her race debut Bunbury R1 tomorrow ;)

Lyrical Queen has always had above average ability and with blinkers added we saw the real Lyrical Queen yesterday. Stablemate Sir Chalmers also raced in blinkers first time yesterday. Didn't win as easily as Lyrical Queen but was almost as impressive lumping 58.5kg and coming from well back in the field.

Hope you all followed! ;) Lyrical Queen won easily again Ascot yesterday. Same race stablemate Sir Chalmers ran a very good 2nd. A well deserved result for trainer Barry Newhham!

And a great effort to get the first two Cheda! My assessments went out the door when the rain pelted down at Flemington. The only saver was a little EW It's Picnic in the last. Thought the last 'smelt' of a roughies result so quickly perused form of those over 20/1 and with some wet form. Didn't pick up It's Picnic first time around, the form guide didn't show any wet form for it, but on perusing another guide noted it ran 3rd in the slow at Sandown early 05 so included, thank goodness!! No doubt robbo was on board also, hey robbo?! :)

The unraced neddy Johnnie Roucke was responsible for the fastest trial today at Belmont. Ridden by Jason Brown the son of Scenic won in a canter.

Other notable performances included the unraced 2YO Oroya Gold (trained by Danny Morton), handy country class stallion Master Vision and the above average Volition whose last win was the listed Belmont Guineas in June last year.

Elsie The Eagle was not extended same heat to run a close 2nd to Volition. Elsie The Eagle had to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards following her late withdrawal at the barrier at Ascot Jan 21.

Kame’s Hope went down narrowly (first-up) behind Joachimstaler at Bunbury (1100) lumping 61.5kg but must admit was very disappointing on paper when running last (2nd up) Australia Day over 1200. The Peter Giadresco trained Spirited Gem is my on top selection. The stable has been really firing in recent months (eg. Early Express, Scopaciri, Shake Your Bon Bon and Magic Haul) and the in-form Spirited Gem is going really well, probably in career best form. He races on pace and stays out of trouble. Well drawn and well weighted, has to be the one to beat!!

Another good trial winner yesterday was the unraced 2yo gelding Master Jack. Master Jack was settled in last position by The Fish before storming home to win by 1½ lengths unextended.

However watch for a name change before the geldings first official race start. Racing and Wagering WA officials have advised trainer George Daly that the gelding would not be allowed to race under the name Master Jack as he could be confused with another WA galloper Marsta Jac who has started in the city and at provincial tracks this season.

Before leaving Perth he will contest the Good Health Welter (1800m) this Saturday carrying top weight of 62.5kg. One of his opponents will be the luckless My Thornbird who won 3 on the trot prior to an abandoned (due to injury) Perth Cup campaign. My Thornbird has 61kg.

Has to be a REAL GOOD chance of winning the Adelaide Cup and perhaps one or both lead-up races (assuming no risk of weight penalty for the cup ;) )
