Early Express will have a pretty handy travelling companion next Tuesday in the form of Perth Cup winner Black Tom. Once in Melbourne he will be floated back to Murray Bridge where he will join the John O'Connor stable while being set for the $400,000 Adelaide Cup at Morphettville. His two lead up runs will be in the Port Adelaide Cup and the Carlton Draught Classic.
Before leaving Perth he will contest the Good Health Welter (1800m) this Saturday carrying top weight of 62.5kg. One of his opponents will be the luckless My Thornbird who won 3 on the trot prior to an abandoned (due to injury) Perth Cup campaign. My Thornbird has 61kg.

IMO he will keep getting better, so looking forward to the Adelaide Cup and a Black Tom cleanup!! :D

Top selection (4) BOLD MATADOR looks nice EW value resumed winning the Carrington Stakes (1100) been kept fresh, drawn ideally and should be given every chance in this (6) CRIMSON REIGN resuming and goes well fresh and this distance, well weighted and has the services of Beadman (12) CAPTAIN BAX big effort in the Carrington when got too far back early, goes OK this track / distance and drawn well (5) WRITTEN TYCOON would have been higher in my list but for the wide draw, with any luck in running very hard to beat. Roughie (11) OUR LIAM great strike rate and winner all 3 starts this campaign.

Wasn't on Master Minx's original agenda but as he was doing so well during a brief letup following the Perth Cup trainer Bob MacPherson convinced connections to give it a go. Set to clash with Black Tom in the Port Adelaide Cup before the 3200 rematch of the Adelaide Cup.

Early Express is to fly out of Perth February 7 to commence his eastern states campaign which will include the Group 1 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley over 1200M, then a fortnight later the Futurity and then concluding with the Australian Cup. He will be stabled at Caulfield and Darren Gauci will be doing the riding honours.

Before he leaves for the east Early Express may run in The Year Of The Rooster welter (1400M) at Ascot this Saturday.

Can't see Early Express listed for Saturday so I guess off east without another run.

I had a small go on Metallurgy in the seventh at Mt Barker yesterday. I remember watching this horse street them at the same course/distance about a year ago. From memory, Metallugy won the race a year ago in the same fashion.

Watching the video of the race last night, that final turn looks to be a tight one, similar to Mooney Valley. Looks like this may be a 'specialists' track.

Can any of the WA locals confirm my view of the last turn at Mt Barker?

Cheers

I've always considered all WA out-of-town tracks as a "specialist's" tracks Franskter, although perhaps to a lesser extent for Pinjarra and Bunbury.

The most impressive trial winner at Lark Hill yesterday was the unbeaten 3YO colt Desiarnez.

The Neville Parnham trained galloper won easily in the 2nd fastest time of the day. Has had just the one official race start winning easily over 1000M at Belmont last October.

The fastest heat winner of the day was the handy country class mare Twin City Girl. She normally races well fresh so watch for her return.

Of the other heats unraced 2YO filly Sprintess and the unraced Fimiston stallion Reign Of Fire were both impressive.

Desiarnez Ascot race 4 tomorrow. Should do well.

Hey folks,

Sat 4 Feb 2006 R2 #3 Bold Ransom. Anyone who follows formlines in the west will have been wondering what the hell this mid/forward runner was doing back at the tail of the field on Jan 21. Apprentice Hill took him back there from his wide gate and that was the end of his chances. He minged home in the straight only to go down to another promising gelding in Real Halo. He returned a 105 that day, and a 100 before that. He will now be cherry ripe to show his absolute best and P. Harvey on is a major plus. He just might give this field a galloping lession!

Sat 4 Feb 2006 LAY R8 #11 Bundy Jack. This 3yo looks promising with two wins this prep already, but he cannot win today. He returned only moderate 91 and 92 his previous two starts. Minimum benchmark to be in the finish here looks to be 95.

Don’t be surprised if Tapdog does start as the trainer has done similar (distance back to sprint with a short break between) before with moderate success. Last attempt beaten just beaten just 1.5len behind Corporate Kate over 1200 after racing over 2400 at Ascot just a few weeks earlier.

No Blessed Sue but yes SunsetCoast it DOES look like Tapdog WILL start in the sprint!

Bunbury today:

Race 5 Prince Firebolt ex Victorian 5YO who visited WA once before as a 3YO in May / June 2004. Best performance that time was when beaten LHD behind Dainty Halo over 1400 at Belmont. Maiden winner over 1200 at Kilmore since then with last official start C1 Jan 2005 at Geelong. Given the lengthy break assume injury caused. Did run 2nd in 1000m trial at Bunbury behind Kame’s Hope just before Xmas and form fresh OK.

Race 8 Captain Woodrow initially raced in WA with first 4 starts (all at Bunbury) producing 3 wins and 1 2nd at distances 1100 – 1400. Then ventured east for a short campaign best result 2nd at Moonee Valley over 1000m October last year. Resumed to win C5 at Bunbury over 1100 last month and looks a promising type.

Didn't run Saturday but did win a trial at Bunbury easily on Friday. Won the last heat over 1400M by 7 lengths!!

Early Express has arrived safely in Melbourne. At this stage good chance he will start in the Orr on Saturday rather then starting in the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley. His two main race targets are still the Futurity and The Australian Cup.

Watch out for Cape North. I've been following him from the start cause he has decent breeding and is trained by the master, Fred Kersley. My father was an assistant coach in one of Fred's teams when he use to play football as a junior.

Watch out for Cape North, could one day become the new Northerly.

Geraldton today…

Race 4 Pigsley’s Grief ex Victorian who has had 2 starts in the west performing reasonably (C5) on both occasions. Best form in the past over distances around 1600, so you would expect the 1200 today to be too short but should be running on. Also racing out of class (is C3) but does have an apprentice claim.

Race 5 D'Yquem another ex Victorian who has now had 3 starts in the west most recent running 2nd C1 this track over 1600. Up in class (C3) today but also up in distance which should suit. With the services of the lovely Alana could surprise.

I like the chances of the west aussie (1) ELLICORSAM in an open race. She does look well weighted against this lot.

(14) LINE ACCOUNT well drawn goes ok fresh and this track and should be well ridden by Darren Beadman.

Ditto (3) WILDLY with Greg Childs steering.

For value including (9) SPECIAL NUMBER. Drawn wide but has good strike rate and handles all track conditions.

Good luck with yours.

What a bottler! Track specialist (3) REGAL ROLLER the one to beat.

(5) LAD OF THE MANOR next best. The promising 3YO (17) CALIFORNIA DANE should be right in the thick of things if he gets a start.

The west aussie (6) EARLY EXPRESS could be the surprise packet. Has a good draw and should be suited by Caulfield.

And including (for value) the old sandgroper (2) BOMBER BILL very capable on his day.

Good luck with yours.

Manjar an early scratching!

Manjar has been sold to Hong Kong interests.

His sale is reported to be around the $500K mark and continues the trend of leading 3YOs being sold to Hong Kong which includes Lock The Vault, Hantu, and Secret Monarch.

Thought he was set for a great campaign including tomorrow's Challenge Stakes.

Well at least we have good coverage of HK racing here in WA if any consolation

I thought lock the vault got asked to sell by they (owners) rejected it by a 12-10 vote??Anyway, what name will it race under? They always change names when they hit another country.

I wish there was some sort of database which tells you the previous names of horses such as Silent Witness, which was Subscribe in Australia, one I use to back often too, so I was shocked to hear it was Silent Witness.

actually suscribe is now known as vengeance of rain. I believe silent witness was called eltiara but it never raced here.

the stud book has a database but it costs $30 a year to suscribe. pardon the pun : )

They origionally knocked back the offer 12 -10 but i believe the offer was upped and a re-vote resulted in the sale.

cheers

Thank you so much umrum!

I knew subscribe was some famous HK horse. I don't wish to pay $30 to know ex horses names, surely this sort of information should be freely available especially in connection with HK races as we can now bet on those races.

I love to see us be able to bet on Singapore races, if Singapore can bet on Perth races then surely we should be able to bet on Singapore races.

Promising 3YO Friars Touch is another on the Hong Kong shopping list. Connections have just rejected a six figure offer and will continue on with Friars Touch current campaign with the ultimate goal being the WA Derby.

yeah mate,

totally agree, the studbook used to be free but last year they introduced the fee. It is a really good site but i dont know too many who pay the fee just for punting purposes.

I totally agree re: betting on singapore etc. I remember Janelle Harvey had a real promising horse sold to singapore. I think it was called brown archer over here. Won first up @ 50/1.
