A close finish with Pantenny just beating Translate, Translate I thought was the better run..Bella Pia well beaten..must have excuses..the run too bad to be true..

The pontiff is back home and will pilot the fav Vain Crusader. Didn't have the best of luck in the Belgravia Stakes, the extra 200m Tues will suit. Rich Ken ran on nicely same race, finished just behind Vain Crusader. From a good barrier Lacerate might run a cheeky race. Was ridden off the pace last start over the 1400 and did battle on well, drops 1.5kg on that run. Oroya Gold has still to find his very good 2YO form and the Paula Wagg trained Real Cheeky not hopeless.

Vain Crusader most impressive. Best runs beaten brigade Kenviel & Guyno..

A mate of mine is part owner of a 2YO called Shavano. Trained by Paul Jordan. According to my mate the best (potential) horse he has owned (had shares in 4 or 5 horses to-date). Interestingly won a trial on Monday beating a nag called La Coureuse!

The angst!
I have high regard for Idyllic Prince and waited for this run, but I am lacking confidence and 20 mins before start time I read this thread and saw Dr John and it was from a very successful barrier. I was very worried about the barrier I.P had. Typical of me, within a minute I had talked myself into switching....my 'big' bet of the day and I move it!
Oh, the pain listening to the last part of that race!
I am such a silly duffer, I did it all day on carnival day, had selected 6 winners and ended up with a losing day!
I used to say to myself 'You'll learn, but now I am starting to wonder!
LOL

Great Nation...not a bad run partypooper..expected him to finish a bit closer..Wild Target...they put a stack on..thought Harvey used him up a bit middle stages but still a weak effort...Mr (Dr?) Diagnosis...in retrospect McGruddy should have ridden him back in the field like the jocks did on the 1st & 2nd places...Huge run Marasco!!

Marrasco is very very good. Havent seen yet if he has the heart of northerly(probably impossible to be as gutsy as northerly) as no horse has really got near him of late. Won by 4 1/4 legths untouched on the weekend and there were a few more than handy gallopers in that field.

The press report I read re Marasco was that he could be another Northerly! Any thoughts?

Was out at Ascot when Marasco ran 5th in the Aquanita Stakes (Feb). From barrier 16 Ikenushi settled him last. He rattled home to finish a couple of lengths behind the winner Scenic Shot. Only Scenic Shot ran a faster last 600. That was only his 3rd race start whilst Scenic Shot was having start 13. Marasco is undefeated since.

As to a comparison to Northerly, way too early, but he is obviously above average (at the very least) ;)

Possible good news for WA racegoers.

Damien Oliver is weighing up his options in Perth before deciding if he will ride at Sandown's Eclipse Stakes race meeting later this month after having 5 meetings shaved off his 20-meeting Melbourne Cup suspension.

"He is putting out a few feelers to see if it is worth going over there or staying here," his manager has reported.

Marasco, trained by Fred Kersley, could be in Oliver's sights especially as he had a successful association with the Kersley-trained champion Northerly, winning 3 Melbourne Group I races on him 2001, including the Cox Plate.

Mr Diagnosis certainly has a better draw but just wondering how he pulled up after last week & if he might just need another run under his belt. Both Re-Enforcing & Scenic Shot will be pelting home. Polish Reign will go around at any old odds, wouldn't be surprised if the Duck got him into a place.

I don't mind Lord Lonsdale in the next race looks decent odds for his form from a pretty good draw will be disappointed if it doesn't go close.

In the Guineas I liked Pantenny a little could run a race at decent odds.

In the Lee Steere I liked Hartley's Dream 1st up with the fish on board usually goes very well fresh just needs some luck to get up here.

There's a few comments already this thread re Marasco, ra sun.

Don't think there were any genuine plans to take east & Fred has been playing down any comparison with Northerly.

Currently fav for the Railway & 4th in line (betting) for the Fruit N Veg. Under the odds in both on performances so far imo & likely to be even shorter if he goes ok in the R. J. Peters on Sat.

Early favs ALWAYS A DEVIL & SCENIC SHOT will probably firm even more after drawing good barriers!

Yes, darn it. Always A Devil hasn't really been up against this quality, last race the quality horses just went around as there was no point tiring them with big weights as this event is more important....I'm leaning toward risking Always A Devil.
It has been....what.....about two decades since a visitor has won this event?
What are thoughts on this years E.S contenders?
I like Polar Bear best, will bet $1 on Niconero just to get it out of the placings as it ALWAYS loses if I back it.
Sadly, Niconero is in a pretty big club there:****
I am curious about Harvey choosing Vain Crusader over Hartleys Dream or Idyllic Prince.
Ripped is going with the same weight he has always carried and don't think it's history indicates enough to beat these others.
Any thoughts on a pretty open affair(said the bishop to the pro)?

Given the performances of the Hayes trio in the Railway, the extra trip and WFA must put these 3 in the box seat for the Fruit 'N' Veg. Hayes will also start Purde. Wouldn't be writing off Vain Crusader, his Railway run was full of merit.

perhaps? thats ten units for worse result 33 if one of your 5 win. Obviously risky not backing Marasco and leaving out electric general... Not for everyone
but if you can see the big M getting beat it's not the worst way to go about it. Personally I will probably have a couple of speculators on rescuer and tarzi and thats about it...

It would seem Vain Crusader is either heading to Hong Kong or heading over east.

Connections of Vain Crusader have confirmed that a substantial offer has been received from Hong Kong and Vain Crusader is currently undergoing the standard veterinary inspection as required by the HK racing authority.

Should the HK sale not proceed connections we will be looking at an eastern states campaign for Vain Crusader.

Pinjarra today first starter Tributon in the 1st, placed in only barrier trial. The 4th, blinkers go on for first starter Arc Nation, has only mediocre trial form. Same race Call For Freedom placed only trial. In the 6th Wyndam All over-raced last start and is in with a chance if he can settle better today. In the 7th Akhenson has no first-up form to speak of, but has some ability, so could surprise. In the 8th Quick Johnson fitter for 2 runs following long spell, capable of placing.

Electric Storm, blitzed the field in good time. Phormium (same heat) a soft run and looks to be ready to win.
