Marasco looked a ball of muscle during his track gallop between races at Ascot on Saturday, and everything is in order for the Fred Kersley trained gelding to start in the Australia Day Stakes at Ascot next Saturday. He will then be off on a Vic campaign commencing with the CF Orr Stakes & culminating with the Australian Cup.

I wonder if Fred is still taking Cape North east as well. Subject of some substantial wagers past two starts & did show a bit of form most recent.

Any comments on last Saturday's 'boat-race' - race 5. The final sectional for 2nd, 3rd & 4th were all faster than the winner Silver Seam. The race time of 1:23:39 was well outside the race record of 1:22:19. Perhaps the jockeys on the losing runners (beaten 8 lens + ) should be sent back to apprentice school!!

I do hope Mr Sandgroper can win so he can be set for the Adelaide Cup, and then hopefully the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups there after.

I'm taking Marasco on, I think the 59 is too much. Class might see him through though.

I am going for City of Ruins, to ruin the day for Marasco.

That's is...

Greg Childs has been named Marasco's rider for his Victorian Autumn campaign after Damien Oliver turned down the ride to continue his partnership with El Segundo.

Childs may also partner Kersley's 2YO filly Jestatune in the $250K BMW Magic Millions Perth 2yo Classic on 14 February.

Part owners Janelle Harvey and co must be devastated. Ironically injury occurred in re-run of race. Gates opened prematurely first time with most runners being pulled-up after going some 400 meters.

Anyone who is serious about punting should take notice of trials. The winners don't always win races in the short term (sometimes longer term) but you can always tell what ones are ready to win and so on. A great tool to assist nailing that allusive winner.

All races are named after WA local football clubs , but it may have
something to do with Chinese New Year. Maybe the races are being
sent live to Hong Kong who also have a meeting.

I have a soft spot for this horse , backing it on a number of
occassions , but I think it has found the city class of race above
its capabilities of recent times. Last few wins have been at
Albany & Mt Barker.
Interesting to note though , that today is 1st start at Pinjarra.

I see that Hennessy Gold ran the fastest trial of the day in 58.00. Not surprising when you look at the field, would have been an abundance of speed in the heat. Wouldn't get too carried away with the win. Gone good trials before but rarely in recent times has he put it together on race day.

The pontiff will need to pull his finger out! Back from injury next month.

Current Premiership Table - top 10

1 W Pike 44.5 wins
2 P Harvey 33.5 wins
3 J Whiting 32 wins
4 J Brown 30 wins
5 Dion Luciani 25 wins
6 S Parnham 22 wins
7 T Turner 21 wins
8 P King 18 wins
9 S Mc Gruddy 17 wins
10 D Staeck 16 wins

Good test for the pontiff but I think he can do it. Don't forget Pike's had more than twice as many rides as Harvey!

Looks like Harvey will be back in the saddle this weekend & may even get the nod to ride Jestatune in preferance to Willy Pike who rode Jestatune for his last win!

Yep, confirmed, Harvey got the nod over Willy who will ride Roman Time.

R4 Torbay Bay good first-up win, up in class but down in weight. Goes OK second-up.

R7 Moonsoon's two runs back have been very good & should be primed for today.

Race 1 GLASTONBURY TOR. This Blackfriars gelding went out fav at each of 3 starts during his first preparation. No trial form but not beaten far those 3 starts.

Race 2 THE DA VINCI CODE is a last-start winner , who has been running around very well in recent times. Drawn well in this race and can certainly go on with it as she makes her way through the classes.

Race 4 VIVA LA COVERT was well supported last start when 2nd behind the consistent In Light. Down in class today & has the services of in-form claimer Shane Gilchrist.

Race 6 TWO TIME was very impressive in beating Jolly Lad & Our Black Demon last start. Up in class but down in weight with 3 kg claimer.

Very surprised Pike preferring Jestatune over Roman Time in the Sires. Looking at the way they ran in the Karrakatta you would suggest Roman Time the best suited by the 1400 of tomorrow's race.

From what I’ve heard Roman Time has improved the most since they met in the Karrakatta. Understand that Jestatune has always had the wood over Roman Time (prior to the Karrakatta) whenever they worked out together. However at their most recent hit-out Roman Time finished on equal terms & was ridden by the heavier jockey.
